Upgraded from i7-6700k to i7-10700k

Thanks Ill give those tips a try, have you also tried the js tweak to get huge fps gains in the big airliners cockpit view?

Im thinking to do the same.
Did you have to reinstall Windows 10(C:) or Is just to upgade and reboot?

I have a 9 year old rig. 2600k, SSD HD, 16 gigs ram and a GTX 1070. With everything on medium and a few high items I get 38-58 FPS. My GPU temp is 62c. I will upgrade when the 3000 cards are out and available but for now it’s still amazing at this level compared to the visuals on other flight platforms I’ve played.

Replacing the mobo means reinstalling Windows.
No other alternative.

That’s a bug.
Actually, your fps don’t change when opening a window or sending it to the task bar. The fps counter is just adding the 2 values.
No matter which window you open (ATC, weather or whatever).

Yeah i understand that its likely to work that way.
But i have seen posts earlier on the internet that thanks to Win 10 it is not necessary to reinstall everything.
I just wanted to ask someone who did upgrade
If they can confirm.

Yes these new i7s are amazing, but the old ones are quite amazing too. As long as I stick to a relatively low 1080p resolution, even with a i7 4790K and GTX1070 I get 40 to 60 fps. I do however have RAM wich is ~20% faster that normal DDR3.

Theoretically a new CPU with much higher resolution and ULTRA could run subjectively worse than an older one with a lower resolution and MEDIUM/HIGH. This is something you should keep in mind when you upgrade and turn everything on ULTRA.

I currently have an i7-7700k 4.2ghz (socket 1151) & have wondered if it would be worth upgrading it to the 10700k. Going by these comments, I guess it would be worth it? What sort of FPS increase am I likely to see? My GPU is an RTX2080ti & I have 32Gb ram. I run three 4K tvs, but I run the sim in 1080p with most things on ultra. I usually get around 30fps (although it appears to have increased a little since the patch)

The only other option would be a new motherboard too but then it gets a bit more complicated (& more expensive)

Certainly a monster of a card! Well done not buying the 20 series, I skipped the 10 series while my 960 hung on, went for the 2080ti last time, will skip the 30 for now I till I upgrade the screen to 4k but my my they are looking like very powerful cards indeed. I guess by the time I’m ready to upgrade the 40 maybe 50 series will be out, wonder what visuals will be like then! We may have achieved 4k 60 by then haha.

I also need to upgrade my mobo to PCI gen 4 apparently so I’ll be hanging on to this build for years to come it seems.

CPU thread count is becoming ever more important and with 16 to play with I think my i9 9900k is handling things pretty well, my task manager shows 40% usage so I hope with a few more patches they can get a little more performance out of the engine

The great thing is that since the previous generation of CPUs can already handle the game to a large degree, the upgrade to the next generation will handle it marvelously. It means I can also wait a little bit until the 3xxx series is available and also afford a considerable increase in RAM like 64GB.

In which case if you use the pop out windows it’s wrong

Correct. Look at the true fps with developer mode on

Are you CPU limited according to developer mode? If not then you won’t get much gain

Haha funny enough I got my upgrade just yesterday, from a i5-6400 (I believe) and GTX750Ti to i7-10700K and 2080S. Should do the trick for now but I have tested almost nothing so far. I can say it looks promising though. Getting more fps with everything maxed out than before with minimum settings and then render scaling tuned down below 100. :see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey::joy::flexed_biceps:t3:

ok thanks for that. I’ve been reading up.. my cpu is socket 1151 and it looks like the fastest i7’s (10700) are all socket 1200 in which case I couldn’t even do it, without changing the motherboard.
Maybe upgrading my gpu to the 30 series is a better solution, when they are available.

Update: just switched on FPS in developer mode.
It says “limited by GPU”
I have an RTX2080ti?

Moving view around and it started alternating (or rather flickering) between limited by GPU / limited by main thread

I just moved also from i5 6600k @ 5.1 OC to 10700k. I have never had a fs fly this smoothly before! I believe it’s all about the cores.

Would it be worth to upgrade from I7 9700K@5.0 ( OC ) to 10700 K ??

Not necessarily. Windows 10 is likely to work just fine without it. But you must have your product key. I’m considering taking the plunge on a new mb and processor and will try just a straight up swap. I have friends who’ve done this successfully.

Probably not. Solid advice is to wait, wait, and wait.

As much as I want to upgrade from a 4790k to a 10900k, I’m going to wait it out. History has shown me that the chip I have currently, though outdated, has held its own for YEARS. Currently getting 30+ fps with medium/high/ultra settings in most situations.

Remember, the sim is currently stock. Once more complex planes, scenery, and addons start coming out, the 10900k may not be powerful enough to maintain at lest 30 fps with consistent frame times at higher settings. Also, we’ll have to wait to see how much PCI 4.0 will have an affect on performance. No doubt that folks will likely upgrade their cards to the 3000 series from Nvidia – you may be able to get more bang for your buck by seeing what AMD has to offer, or better yet, what Intel has to offer as a counter.

I’m happy for those that are experiencing smooth performance (finally). But for those that are still on the fence, as painful as it is – just hang on a little bit longer! We’re at a weird time where the sim is finally here, and we want to see it and all it’s glory. But do not impulse buy and regret it later!

Same here with an i9-9900k. I think it’s all about the over-clocking. I’m fully stable at 4.9 GHz. I have 64 GB RAM and a Gigabyte 2070 Super.
