URGENT ISSUE - MSFS 2024 Phantom Update Resets Everything Xbox & Windows PC (not steam) 3/21/2025 (~23:30 UTC)

Apparently you can bring back your community folder items by re-enabling them in
“my library”

But they’re no longer physically on my PC, how could that work?

Sorry to hear that. Can you check your recycle bin? Or did you have a backup of your community folder?

This happened a couple of times in MSFS 2020 (for those of us in a beta) and you’d think MS/Asobo would have learned by now.

All settings reset, including everything that was enabled or disabled through the library. What a pain in the A!

Were you on the SU1 beta?

Ah.. This might be related to that… This is why they tell you to have your community on a custom install location.

Hi folks,

We have escalated this internally. Our production team has advised me that they were doing some backend work in preparation for the start of the SU2 beta. If you were previously enrolled in the beta test group, you may receive this download, but it is not the SU2 beta nor is it an update to the sim; you will remain on the same version (SU1 release, 1.3.23.0). We are currently investigating why this might have resulted in some of your settings or Community folder being reset.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

8.7 GB is the size of the FS2020 app that is installed on the PC.
And has the FS2024 exe file.

For those impacted:

  1. When you log in (version is still 1.2.23) your settings will be reset and your community folder path gets reset (others are claiming their entire community folder got wiped – yikes)
  2. Start the sim, go to here and click the gear icon and re-point your community folder to wherever your community folder is

Sorry that happened to you. Everything is still in my community folder but the path was changed to default as well as the rolling cache.

And yes I remained in the beta program.

Thanks for the advice, sadly I am not tech savvy and have no idea how the whole “community folder” shifting around thing works.

So how about the one`s like me who cannot get into the game at all ?

Go to where you uninstall apps and click manage. Then try the first repair option.

Just great work Asobo! Bravo!!
Just thinking that I must reconfigure everything, redowload everything, makes me thik I will not open MSFS again for long time!

Are you using administrator mode perhaps? If not verify/repair in Xbox app might help.

Now I see two beta previews in the insider hub

I’d try either re-installing it again via your Xbox app/Steam app/Windows Store.
