Use of Skyvector, Simbrief and other sites/Apps

Just wondering if there are any restrictions on using these sites and apps for flight planning? I started to signup for SkyVector and they asked for phone number in case I left a flight plan open. Are these just for real pilots vs. “real flight sim pilots”?

Thanks, Although I’ve owned every version of MSFS except the first, I had FS2 on my Commodore 64, I have never been interested in this level of flight planning.

I use both. No need to sign up nor leave personal info with Skyvector, unless you are planning RW operations. Simbrief requires an account and is provided for simulation purposes alone(donations welcome). Disclosure: I am not associated with the owner or the developer of the site. The resources you utilize for flight planning is your choice, there are many.

Flight plans generated using simbrief doesn’t automatically program SID and STAR into your mcdu. But then again what’s the point, nothing actually works in this sim.

Nothing? That’s a tad pessimistic, and inaccurate, don’t you think?

I use SkyVector without an account; it does most everything I actually need. I just fly GA and mostly VFR, and put my flight plan (navaids, freqs, etc) in a paper notebook to fly with. It’s quick and easy and works pretty much like real life I think.

IDK about the “nothing actually works in this sim” comment; some stuff doesn’t, but more than enough does for lots of fun flying.

It came to me when I tried flying into hurricane laura, the wind was blowing at 0kt and my autopilot went into 90° nose dive.

TBH, a real world autopilot would disconnect in hurricane weather.

I think we all know by now that US weather is innacurate. I realise that many US citizens can be a little insular at times, but to consider that because it doesn’t work there, the entire sim is broken is over egging things a bit. I’m looking forward to the next tropical cyclone.

Ahem; we prefer to call it “Freedom Weather” thank you very much. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thx for the replies. I just didn’t want to get in trouble with the FAA or other authorities by accidentally filing flight plans. Now I need to go watch some more YouTube tutorials. I particularly like Squirrel’s videos.

For nothing working in this sim, I sure am enjoying it.

Me too, he’s such a nice guy and has so much fun flying and explaining things so clearly.

And I’m having lots of fun flying, too. There’s a YouTube channel “Missionary Pilot” who flies the Kodiak 100 in New Guinea and also shares details for us to re-create his flights in MSFS.
