You know, to tie it back in a bit to the topic: we can see in your photo where the VASI are supposed to be. However, in the sim, theyâre much closer to the runway than irl. If they were in the correct spot, there might be more contrast against the green background of the grass. I mean, weâre literally being forced to look for them in the wrong place, nestled up to the edge of the runway, close to the big, white fixed-distance (1000â) markers. Just another unintended consequence of poor placement.
On the other hand, if we fix them, it might mean the whiter dirt/concrete area around the base of the light boxes needs to be toned down as well, in order to maintain that contrast. Interesting conundrum. This is like a Human Factors study for the sim.
I think the big challenge in fixing them is the current Fight Club rule in World Gateway - that the fixes must match the current aerials, even if the aerials are dated. But yeah, breaking them out more would help in the squinting at times to find them.

Iâve âfixedâ quite a few VGSIs in the world hub that have since been uploaded to the sim: KVCB, KAUN, KLHM, KSQL, KAFO, KTHM, KGOO, KSAC, KWLW. I wonder if itâs making a difference in visual perception. Would be interesting to A/B that.

eeeeh I donât know what has changed from few days here but I see different effect what I havenât previously in night. My PAPI are correct looks like but I see some strange shimmering on other lights, like they are not ON or are very low intensity than other lights. What I have also discovered and not noticed, textures of taxiways/runways are now more granular. Ok to example about that lights on LZIB rwy31, strange is that some flash lights on straight line are flashing but can not see them from cockpit during approach, as other strange thing.
No Beta here. Some of the lights are looks like grayed or with lower intensity, from cockpit it looks like cyclical ON/OFF effect with very quickly change, shimmering.
In the day it isnât vissible, Iâve discovered this at night flight after while.
Short version: the placement of the VASI/PAPI in the sim is often wrong to real-world. Itâs a strong pet peeve/soapbox issue of mine and Iâm slowly fixing it in the world hub. But when theyâre wrong, they can not only cause incorrect glide paths and poor obstacle clearance, as well as improper touchdown points, but due to the lack of range of dynamic intensity, there can also be an additional lack of visual contrast compared to when theyâre placed next to the appropriate background. The latter is what Iâve come to realize in this thread.
