I think it’s much easier for the casual gamer and kids to just grab and xbox and MFS and get flying. PC’s offer many advantages but also come with a learning curve. I’m well aware there are plenty of kids on PC, I regularly hear them on Vatsim, but many are very professional and take it seriously and those that don’t disappear quickly. I just think IF vatsim came to xbox, it would be more easily abused or misused because of the simplicity in getting things up and running on an xbox. You are correct I wasn’t belittling anyone for their choice or saying that there aren’t serious simmers on xbox. But xbox is a larger player base probably comprised of a younger crowd and Vatsim may not benefit from such easy access for those that don’t take it seriously. I doubt we’ll ever find out. I have an xbox but I have chosen PC for MFS for my personal reasons.
All,
Friendly reminder to please stay on topic.
This thread is about gaining access to VATSIM on the XBOX Platform, not about which platform constitutes a “serious simmer” or simmers age.
Any further offside conversations will result in the topic being closed.
Thanks.
Technically, it cannot – so that Trumps any discussion about a “Choice” as to allow X-box users onto Vatsim…
Technically, its not possible, … QED.
Xbox here, personally not bothered about VATSIM, and like said it’s not possible anyway, I would just like Asobo to massively improve the default ATC.
There are Xbox groups that apparently go some way towards emulating VATSIM. That’ll do me, when I finally get on multiplayer.
I think given more time, and numbers of players interested in this on console increasing, it will happen. Weather it is Vatsim or someone else creating an alternative platform or app that works on console. I think MSFS on console is a key strategy for Microsoft and putting it more on the iCloud like it will be with 2024 version will bring many new opportunities and free resources. Enjoying what I have so far!
This is what I mean when I say that the “community” uses the “casual” classification applied to Xbox simmers as an excuse.
I have repeatedly pointed this out and Microsoft just says “they value Xbox users very much” but there is never a solution (not even a kind reminder to those who discriminate in the discussion spaces).
Another sad example of the treatment of Xbox simmers by the MSFS “community”
One of the most elitist and sneering statements I’ve seen in these forums. Perhaps a real controller looks down his nose at you, as you look down yours at Xbox users? Do most of the Xboxers here give you the impression that they’re kids? MSFS doesn’t actually appeal to too many traditional gamers, let alone something as complex as VATSIM.
If this is the attitude of the VATSIM community, you can keep it. Besides, we’ve only ever advocated for something similar, rather than VATSIM itself.
By the way, in psychology, people who berate others in this manner typically feel that their ecosystem is being threatened…
Hi @LentesAzules,
If you see a blatantly inappropriate comment like this in the future, please flag the post as inappropriate for myself or a moderator to deal with quickly and efficiently. This is a much better way to get our attention as a team instead of individually pinging a team member.
There is no place on the forums for the language used and we will not tolerate it. I have removed the comment.
Thanks,
The MSFS Team
Getting back to the topic, it would be great to see something similar on Xbox since VATSIM isn’t currently possible. There are many serious to semi-serious flyers on Xbox that could get great enjoyment out of that level of realistic flying.
I myself have always been an aviation enthusiast since the old FS95 days when I was a kid, but now that I’m older I find myself enjoying more and more videos that show the rules and regulations of proper flying. I’m sure there are plenty like me that would like to use what they’ve seen and unofficially learned and put it to use during the sim.
That isn’t true…
The developers know perfectly that isn’t a technical issue, following two good examples
The successful Navigraph integration is a categorical proof that the VATSIM for Xbox is exclusively a business issue, not technical
I’m posting this and quoting the original post to keep myself on topic. The original post was about bringing VATSIM to Xbox. I think it’s really exciting to see flight sim and aviation reach an entirely different audience and I also think it’s great that more hardware is coming out to support the Xbox market.
For me, I see the Xbox market as a gateway to bring users to the PC where VATSIM is available. It’s not necessarily because the Xbox audience is inferior in any way, but the truth is the network isn’t ready for that kind of demand yet.
To remain respectful and without coming off as throwing shade on anyone, the truth is that the network is already suffering in some ways from its popularity since MSFS launched. While it’s great to see more people on the network, we are also finding more problems. Controllers are logging off abruptly because they simply can’t handle the constant issues of pilots who can’t fly their aircraft or follow simple instructions. More and more pilots are getting on the network without having a single understanding of what to do, how the network operates, or understand what’s required of them. I feel like adding the Xbox audience into the mix would only exacerbate the issue that we are already seeing.
In regards to age, I do wish VATSIM would increase their minimum age limit to 16. I think those few years of maturity would really help foster a better environment on the network, but again, it’s a problem we are seeing with PC users and these problems would only become more obvious with adding Xbox users onto the network.
Lastly - I can’t stress enough how excited I am for more users on console and PC to join our hobby. It’s great to see so many new people joining us and learning new things.
VATSIM need to improve the admissions tests
Again, not about Xbox, is about the admission system. Isn’t a platform problem
Part of the reconfiguration necessary in VATSIM restrictions (in fact about children protection)
Absolutely grateful for your thoughts, wish more people thought like you to grow the simulation
I would sooner see BeyondATC port over to Xbox.
Maybe something more appropriate like needing a certain amount of flight hours would be more beneficial. The less serious users would have moved on before they accumulated enough flight time.
There no vc support in the game at all but a simple fix for that would be to do how discord works on xbox but that would require Vatsim to make an app on xbox to set that up. Another issue would arise with the app, Xbox probably can’t run two apps in the background as it’s already running the addon. Finally that type of traffic injection would cripple the game performance. The most simple would be Asobo create their own network in game, with some type of knowledge test for player to become controllers.
This was a really good thread, thanks. Popcorn material. I think MS should create a Vatsim for xbox, can’t leave anyone out. Don’t forget to man the aircraft carrier towers too. But, the biggest thing missing on xbox is freeware. I hope that gets added. I hope the xbox community gets the chance to try out some ripped photgrammetry cities, especially the really big ones. Can’t leave anyone out.
