Velocityone Flightstick buttons 7 & 8 not working or being detected/recognised in MSFS on XBox Series X

Hello there, I too have just purchased a Velocityone Flightstick to use with an XBox Series X. Just wondering if you’ve had any issues with Buttons 7 & 8 not working or being detected/recognised in MSFS?

I’ve tried updating it to the latest firmware but the fault still persists. I’ve also checked the mapping options etc and can assign 7 & 8 as recommended but nothing happens when you press either button, even in the Controller Setup menu, the Joystick Button 7&8 boxes don’t become highlighted when either are pressed. Buttons 1 to 6 do and everything else on the Flightstick seems to be working fine. I’m guessing it’s faulty but I was hoping to see if it’s a common fault or a Sim bug.

I am also experiencing difficulties opening MSFS if the Flightstick is plugged in before launching the Sim. I get a message saying I’m either not online or my licence can’t be checked. However if I unplug the Flightstick and try again it will launch and login fine, I can then plug in the Flightstick and it works although it’s a bit clunky as sometimes I have go back to the game pad controller to navigate through the sim menu’s etc.

Have you had any of these issues? Thanks in advance!

Joe

@Joesoap1963 – you might try the TB Discord channel for your controller: Discord. I’ve not seen your problem; I’m also using it with a XBox Series X.

Update…

Despite replacing the Flightstick with a brand new replacement, MSFS is still not recognising/detecting buttons 7&8. Perhaps it’s down to the Game Pass Sim version?

It would be great to know if anyone has purchased MSFS for XBOX series X and is successfully using a Velocityone Flightstick with all 8 joystick buttons working correctly.

Maybe my Xbox is faulty?….

I’m using MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition on my Xbox Series X and all of my buttons are working. I did remap Button 8 to display the nav map rather than toggle the lights.

Thank you, that sounds promising.

Just wondering if I need to delete the Game Pass version first, then buy the PD version and start the install again from scratch. Did you install your PD version as an upgrade to the Game Pass version, or was it a completely clean install from new?

Thanks in advance!

I wonder what the game version has to do with the functioning of a connected device. :-o

However, the button you see described in the controller picture in MSFS does not match the numbering of the buttons pressed in the sim.
For example, what the pictures (and the label on the stick itself) describes as button 8 is recognized as button 21 in the control settings manager (7 is 20).

Furthermore, two of the buttons (trim wheel up and down) only become active when the corresponding profile setting is selected (digital trim compared to analog trim).

So which buttons do you refer to when you say button 7?
If you refer to the two buttons in the lower right corner (x and y when having set the flight stick to left handed usage), I can assign these buttons to an action and that action is performed when pressed.
What the sim recognizes as button 7 (and 8) are the share and the options menu to the left and right of the jewel (the xbox button), but these also I can assign to actions which are then performed (in my case pause and external view).
Playing on XBox series X, standard edition from gamepass, most recent firmware of the flightstick is 1.1.1, input profile XBox, control profile set to “sensitive”, trimming set to analog, touchpad sensivity to zero, colouring green.

So far my grievance with that stick is the coolie hat, which does really not function in all directions, the diagonal settings are ignored (except front left), but that’s another issue.

I bought the PD version at the very beginning, so I never used the Game Pass version.

Thank you for your detailed response. You have solved the mystery as yes indeed it turns out that the button numbers that are physically printed on the flightstick don’t correspond to MSFS. Numbers 1 to 6 are correct but after that it all becomes random and illogical. Thank you for help sir!

For any newbies to the Velocityone Flightstick… I found the key to setting up the controller is to use the search option and simply press the button you wish to assign to whatever function you’ve pre-selected. It will then marry the button and desired function together. It will also display it’s designated button number.

Steve, the GamePass version is the same as any other version. Premium Deluxe has no impact on the gameplay. It just adds airports and planes.

The core game is the same no matter what version.

Many thanks to all of you who responded.

I purchased the Premium Deluxe version today and simply added it to the Game Pass version. I’m still experiencing the odd cursor glitch where it freezes or disappears altogether when in some of the menu pages, but apart from that it seems to be working ok.

With kind regards,

Be aware that when you stop paying for game pass you also can’t use the premium edition anymore!

Curious. Any of you who have been using the TB Velocityone Flightstick the past few months, how are you liking it? I’m considering buying it in the future because I’m growing tired of the jitter issues in my HOTAS One.

I guess my specific questions would be
A.) Does it seem like it’s holding up well, or do you see it being another HOTAS One, where it starts having issues after 6 months?

B.) I’ve heard the springs are really stiff. Would you say it’s an issue? I’d be able to mount the flight stick, so I’m not worried about that aspect, but I am curious if it makes for an issue with smooth flight or landings with the stick always wanting to pull so hard to center.

I love my FS. I fly it on my TV from my Xbox, having it on my lap while reclining on my sofa.

I’m surprised you can do this with the stick being so stiff and having such a small base

I put some downward pressure on the stick keeping it positioned on my lap.

I drilled three holes into he plywood desk from my Couchmaster Cyworks (m4 AFAIR) and it holds up pretty good, while leaving enough room for a keyboard and mouse.
That plank formerly held my Thrustmaster Hotas, with the throttle unit separate on the left side (as far as the connection cable allowed) and the keyboard in between.

I use the flightstick with my Xbox S on the couch. And I’m very happy with it. Have every function I need. Mixture, Propeller, Throttle, Flaps, Autopilot, Smartcam, Drone, ATC etc.. Has needed some workaround and 2 weeks of trying. Now it’s really all I need. I fly only little aircraft, bushflying, STOL.

Might be obvious: you still can buy it as a “standalone” product though.

I also cannot get B7 and B8 working with MSFS, even if I try to do a custom mapping. B5 and B6 do work. Is this still expected? It seems weird that the default V1 mappings in MSFS show B7 and B8 even though those two buttons don’t work.

What am I missing? Is my joystick defective?
