Very Frustrated - I wish it didn't have to be like this

As a 78 year old who has been a Flight Simmer since FS98 I can honestly say that FS2020 is the most frustrating it’s not a game game that I have ever come across. I am computer literate but FS2020 tests my patience every time I run it. Have to fight the AP and Navigation computers every time I restart a so called saved flight , CTD’s are common through no fault of mine.
Lately we have the having to use Task Manager to close the thing down, now today I have had to revert back to Disk 1 as it will not start up and run using the MSFS.vhd drive that I mounted some time ago.
Why does it have to be like this, I still have FS2004 loaded and it runs like a dream, I have not gone down the FS2024 route as I see that that also is littered with problems.
I wish it didn’t have to be like this.

Welcome back. Wondering if you are running 2020 on the same PC that FS2004 “runs like a dream” and if so, what your PC specs are?

What is a “so called saved flight” in 2020?

My Personal Comment & Observation
I don’t think MSFS 2020 was ever designed to run within a virtual PC, if that is what “MSFS.vhd drive” is referring too.

Been running on the VHD for almost a year. I only use the start up files from Disk 1 .

FS2020 or FS2004?

FS2020 only

I’ve called it a “so called saved flight” as it only saves part data and not the full flight details, i.e. AP settings and flight plan are always missing from saved flights.

I understand you to mean that when you save a .pln (flight plan created in the World Map) and load it into your navigation system (like Garmin G1000) it works, but when you exit the flight and reload the .pln it doesn’t work the second time. Is that right?

That’s a disk image, mounted so you don’t have to keep rummaging for the physical disk if the sim is having one of those moments where it asks for the installation media.
