VL3 - Rotax 915 mod

First, thank you for you guys, for your effort to bring this bird live for us. But for me, if you can, I will appreciate a little help. Could you tell me what I´m doing wrong? I downloaded the latest version of the mod and just put on the community folder. The problem is, when I go to the game and sit in the aircraft, the garmin g3x don´t turn on. Only black screen. I don´t know what I need to do.

From cold & dark only , or starting from runway too?

do you have any other mods installed?

All situations, and no other mods. I have this directory there.

This is from here: Release 0.10 - G3X Improvements · r9r-dev/fs2020-vl3-rotax915 · GitHub

Inside “community-vlrotax915” folder you have this structure?

Sorry for be late, now I will be fast.

Yes, look

I downloaded again, decompressed, reloaded the game and took this screenshots below, look.

The avionics in turned on. It is very strange, it should be on!

Wow, I fixed it! I know the I isn´t the best idea but worked. I made a copy of Asobo´s vl3 folder in official directory and add “-915”. Then the copy the mod above it. All in official folder and delete all content of community.

Any way, thanks guys!

No need for that. You could just reference Asobo’s VL3 from aircraft.cfg in Community folder like I posted above.

Tested today, 504nm cross country, no scales, FL changes, a little over standard manifold, 50% tank used… worked ad expected… !!!

Hi, you likely have another mod installed that causes the problem. Some of them are known to do this, especially if you don’t update those mods after a patch from Asobo.

Nice! Thanks @Argento6696 for testing the fuel consumption. Good to know we’re on target for the fuel flow.

Nice work guys, I should caveat with I have not flown the real aircraft so the value of my contribution is limited but I think it feels more like it should based on analysis of the aircraft configuration and type characteristics. The engine coolant and oil temp behaviour does not seem very accurate unfortunately and it is a shame the prop governor controller is not modelled but overall it is a lot of fun to fly. Stalling is an interesting exercise. I would recommend taking out the terrible noise during rolling and turns, it really makes the aircraft feel more unstable than it is.

Let me know if you’d me to look at anything more specific but this was a basic handling qualities evaluation, nothing specific on performance, I’d need a POH for that but plenty of other people are able to concentrate of the fuel burns, speeds at altitude etc.

Thanks Dave, really appreciate you take the time and effort for a professional review of our work-in-progress VL-3 915. Glad you loved flying our bird!

Still a work-in-progress, but several new liveries are coming your way!

Just as a heads up, the changes made in this mod have been done in a way that will break the Garmin-style wind bug in everything that uses it by fixing it to one given setting. This means, in particular, that the mode switch in the stock G1000 will now no longer work.

I submitted a PR yesterday which works around this by enhancing CommonPFD_MFD.js to use a flag that can be set in a plane’s panel.xml to fix one particular value so that that can be done for this mod without breaking other planes:

It looks like there was a commit just a few hours ago that causes a conflict with that PR. I’m happy to resolve that conflict so my PR can be merged if y’all are interested, but I wanted to check before I put the effort into it since I haven’t had any feedback on github.

If you choose to reject the PR and keep things as they are, I think it would be nice to let folks know that this is going to change their stock avionics. That’s not necessarily something someone would expect in an engine mod.

(As I mention there, I’m also working on a Working Title G3X mod along with the folks at Bush League Legends which has additional features. It’s in “alpha” officially, but is already usable in the Rotax mod if folks want to install it. That’s not going to solve the issue of breaking other planes’ avionics though.)

Should be interesting having the VL3 powerered with a Rotax 915 AND a better than default Garmin G3X (the Asobo implementation of the garmin avionics, in general, sucks)!!

Thanks to the community that tries to fix and improve what Asobo do wrong

Hello,
I’ve noticed I have a tendency to overshoot the max speed with flaps extended when taking off. In other planes I usually don’t retract flaps too soon but in this plane the takeoff speed is low and then you build speed very fast. It’s very easy to forget!!

Asobo and Microsoft said in the last Q&A that they wanted to create a study level G1000. At first it wasn’t in their plans (and it shows) but now they want to do it. Like many other things in this game, we must give them time

I wanted to ask you if there’s some way or mod to lower the high brightness of the navsystem in this plane, taking into account it hasn’t any knob within the cockpit that allows it.

Thank you

Not at the moment. Plane is certified for Day VFR only.

Just wanted to say hello, and give my big thanks for this fantastic mod. Ive found a new favorite plane and are enjoying it so much, i felt i needed to say my piece about it. Thanks alot to you behind it!
