VR broken transparency on left eye (alpha-channel masking)

Here with a general VR bug: transparency / alpha-channel masking doesn’t work correctly on left eye view. This bug applies for transparent and/or volumetric objects like clouds, smoke, contrails, rain, haze.
The transparency works fine if it’s only one layer/object (e.g. clouds). However, if multiple transparent objects overlap (e.g. contrails behind clouds), the alpha-masking is only rendered correctly for the right eye, not on the left eye.
As a result, the wrongly-masked objects appear very broken and annoying in VR with the typical flicker-like visual effect when left eye doesn’t match right eye.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No.

Yes.

Brief description of the issue:

Alpha-masking not working correctly for left eye in VR (see detailed description above and screenshot)

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

In VR, check for multiple transparent objects to overlap (e.g. contrails behind clouds) and compare right eye (correct masking) with left eye (no masking).
It’s also very visible and annoying on cloudy sunsets, where clouds overlap the atmospheric haze.

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

Not really relevant, I can confirm this for various VR headsets (Varjo Aero, Quest 3)

Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:

I believe having seen this bug since the very beginning of MSFS in VR early 2011. AFAIK this was never addressed.

Hi,
The screen shot is extremely helpful.
I realized similar issues at night with the stars are in front of the clouds. I’m not sure though if this is on one eye or both.
This seems to apply only if you are on the ground. Can you confirm that? If so, it might the the same issue.

Weird. Never seen this. I probably won’t be able to unsee it now, so thanks!!

How does it feel in headset when only 1 eye sees it wrong and your brain merges it?

I wonder if this bug is related to the double cursor in VR introduced in SU7 or 8? I only wonder this because the double cursor is “fixed” by closing your right eye, not really a fix if, for whatever reason, you find it difficultt to close one eye

Thank you very much, this bug is Really Bad and makes me headache!

The same effect happens when you see AI Traffic Lights through Clouds.

Asobo, please to fix this.

The same effect also applies when you see AI Traffic through Clouds. You see the lights on one eye.

Hey Guys, is there a way to solve it via a fix made by the community? This bug drives me crazy :smirk:

Hopefully this one will be solved in msfs2024!

Can confirm this on Varjo Aero & RTX 4090 - no matter what drivers or Varjo Base software (initially I thought, this was a problem on my end or with my headset so I tested numerous software/driver combinations with no effect). Even completely reinstalled msfs, empty community folder, etc. No change. Lets just hope this will be gone with 24…
