VR LoD curve issue [SU3 / 1.5.27.0]

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

There appear to be issues with the level of detail curve when in VR. This leads to incorrect LoDs displaying inside the cockpit or outside the aircraft. The game appears to think you are positioned 1-2 metres further away than you actually are.

The visibility of the issue depends on how each individual aircraft LoD is setup. Issue is highly noticeable particularly in more complex cockpits such as the Cessna CJ4, Airbus A320 V2, Airbus A321, Airbus A330, Boeing 737, Boeing 747, Boeing 787 and others.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Always

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load into an aircraft. CJ4, A320, A321 or A330 is ideal. Move around inside cockpit or outside aircraft until LoD change is observed then stop.

  2. Swap out of VR and observe how much further LoD is visible in non-VR mode until change occurs.

  3. Take screenshot or video of issue to compare.

As with many things in life, a problem is best corrected immediately it first appears, while the cause is fresh in the memory.

But that is not the way that Asobo seem to work. This problem occurred at the end of SU3 beta, and would have been best solved while still in beta. Now I fear it will be dropped to the end of the large list of outstanding problems, and perhaps never be fixed.

We only noticed it last Friday, and there simply was not time to even attempt to fix this on our end. And if we were to, any fix from MS for this issue might cause our work to cause fresh issues. We would rather wait for a statement from Microsoft first.

Thanks to PMDG for being so active on this one, the first aircraft I noticed this on was the 777 but after checking it is present on everything to a varying extent of notice (Personally observed on the Fenix A32x and Citation X so far). Per the original thread it is a shame to see something clearly noted in the last two builds of the beta shipped into the final release when it is so game breaking for VR users.

Thanks for the report, can you please add the H125 tag?

I reached the tag limit trying to tag all the aircraft it affected unfortunately.

Isn’t that interesting. I get it on the 777 and A350, but not on the Fenix A32x.

Have a look again at the Fenix, for whatever reason it was much more subtle for me than the others. Where I noticed it was the marks on the radio knobs would disappear and reappear as I moved my head around.

OK yeah I see that on the Fenix too.

Can anyone confirm if this is also the reason why AI aircraft are now missing landing gear from a far (just like it did in 2020, it did have some of this pre SU3 but the distance is much worse) and why GSX now has the wing walkers moon walking and the wheels of vehicles square with textures utter rubbish?

Would be better if they at least released the SU3 without the new LOD curves for VR. I dont get it…incredible how they ignore a whole bunch of their community.

It’s the first time I am actually angry af. I’ve been calm for 4 years regarding issues in the simulator. Most of them had working work-arounds or were minor inconveniences, for me at least. But this just renders my investment in VR useless. This is really upsetting, releasing an update like this.

I have watched from a far and not really commented on any of the issues around 2024 but it’s starting to grind on me now with the issues. For me the biggest issue is the length of time it takes to admit the issue and then get out a fix this update has taken nearly 3 months and still has issues. It was sold that due to 2024 being mostly streamed they could push out updates and fixes faster and easier yet i have failed to see this happen once. Surely it would be easier to release smaller updates more often? As the users we are piggy in the middle with developers blaming Asobo and Asobo blaming developers (although they are not as outspoken as developers). Even now this issue which was highlighted days ago and by the developers themselves (PMDG) and it hasn’t been logged. Come on Asobo sort this out !!

Yeah it is pretty disappointing. VR is the way I use the product and this renders it useless.

To be fair this issue only appeared in the 1.5.25.0 SU3 beta build which was fairly recent.

It’s a shame its carried onto the final release build but hopefully we see a hotfix patch at some point.

Hopefully this issue doesn’t get relegated to the VR issue lost causes bucket, as happened with this VR issue I reported here over three years ago now during a beta that was present in the final release and seems to have ended up there doomed to never be fixed.

MS/Asobo, you really should stop treating VR issues with such low priority.

This behavior of Asobo is really unacceptable for me as I use always VR and now I can’t use it anymore due to the descripted issues. I find it again very frustrating and respectless towards the Community as your paying customers…

Yeah, like everyone here I have invested stupid money in gear, scenery and aircraft for this sim and how find it completely unusable.
