VR with AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and Oculus Quest 2 over Oculus Link

The 6000 series GPUs, and maybe even the 5000 series GPUs, are very bad for the video compression the Quest 2 needs.
If there was one GPU not to buy with a Quest 2, it was an AMD 6000 series GPU

Well I didn not buy the GPU for the game, I just hoped it would also benefit =(

I now found a sweet spot for me, that I am quite happy with, and if you don’t mind I’d like to share. Maybe this is helpful for others, too.

I am using:

It ends up with really good visibility. The final render ist about 1950x1950.

ASW 30Hz gives me, what I would call, smoothness. Only tiny little jerks bur you can see the effekt of ASW. Other options except ASW off, don’t work. ASW off is not as smooth but also without the little jerks. I haven’t checked FPS. It looks good at quite a good resolution. I probably could go below these settings and could try more, maybe later, I am, at this point, happy it works even with this card. Let me say one last sentence - with these options that I have (most of things on high) I doubt, the 2060s could handle this that good. Lets see and check. Maybe me enthusiasm will go down again.

Using OpenXR btw, steamVR is not playable right now
6700XT, Ryzen 3700, 32GB,…
I flew over rainy cloudy Dresden.

If you need more info, just ask.

I can’t fly without anything newer than the 20.10.1 driver. I ctd after a few minutes or sometimes 2 hrs into a flight with a newer driver. I’m getting ready to buy a Reverb G2 but now I read your post saying a G2 requires a much newer driver.
It doesn’t look like I’ll have a shot getting VR working with the G2 right now.

Good luck, I hope this gets figured out soon!

I put a link to this topic for you, because many, like me, came here to talk about their problems, because they had a problem with an AMD GPU. But the subject at the base does not speak of crashes, nor of CTD, nor of G2.

It is better to keep talking about it on the subject dedicated to CTD crashes with the G2

I wish I would have seen your post before I bought the 6900xt…

I’m just finding out now there is no motion smoothing or async warp or anything…

What do you say ?.. All this settings are present in the radeon software (adrenalin)
