Waiting for months until being able to log-in Microsoft Account because of smartphone number change?

Good morning pilots,

This can´t be true
Oh come on…

How can I log-in without waiting for mid-summer because of a phone number change?
Yes my new phone number ends with 76 now, do I really have to wait till mid July because of the fact I sometimes change my phone provider to get the best service and connection?

No, you have to wait until 7th of June. Is is the American notation of dates with Moth/Day/Year.

Which is still way too long!

MS are a joke.

That happened to me once and it is an absolute joke on the part of Microsoft. Whilst I can understand the need for good security, surely there must be a better way.

Even my bank can log me in after changing my phone number.

Can you access your security options via Outlook, to add an alternate method?

If you still have access to your old phone number, maybe you can try this (" Cancel the request to remove security info"):
“Your security info change is still pending” or “You can’t access this site right now” Microsoft account message.

I have not tried this out but when I understand this correctly, the problem occurs when you remove all security info and replace it with a new one. What you should do next time instead is add the new number (if this is possible? or another mean of id…) but do not remove the old one. When logging in, you can chose the identification method.

Ah wonderful to hear. The XBox program that launches all the games like Trek to Yomi Forza Horizon and Flight Sim is fully functional, but the log-in is not. So it´s just a few days of wait well this is not a problem

You can’t keep your number when you change providers? We can in the U.S.

I am not interested in keeping my number for a longer time, because over time too many strangers get my phone number and that´s why I change my number at least one time a year - so only my inner circle of family and friends has my new number.

And in times when every second website, installed app, chat and computer program absolutely “needs my mobile number to function” it´s even more important than ever before to have one real telephone, and one unlocked throw-away smartphone with prepaid sim-card for all these webmails chats webshops websites…

Have you considered using the Microsoft Authenticator instead to secure your account?

Hi, what is the Microsoft Authenticator?

Hm but it looks like the new smartphone number is now connected to my MS account.

Wouldn’t the Authenticator use the old number
if your phone number changes?

No, the device it is running on has no bearing on the token presented. It will change every 30 seconds or so as well. I have the MS, and Google Authenticator on both my iPad, and my iPhone. Both work well enough.

Does it not place a call to your phone (old number) to give it the security info
to you.

It’s really easy to set up to. Just go to the page below. I signed in to my Office365 account for these images.

Then click “Add sign-in method”. You will probably see your old telephone number here, and you may have the opportunity to change it.

Choose the “Authenticator App”:

Then follow these instructions:

I just noticed that this was my work Office365 account, so your personal one may look a little different to this.
