Wanted: best practices for Pilatus PC-24 landings

Dear community,

my two main issues with the Pilatus PC-24 are (and I know I’m not alone):

  • Spoilers are not auto-deployed on touchdown unlike in the real plane
  • Flight model is incorrect and forces way too high approach speeds (125 to 130 knots usually works for me) unlike the real plane

These two issues regularly lead to bunny hops for me and my VIP passengers are not happy about that, resulting in passenger scores of 70-80% instead of >90% that I achieve on other aircraft.

So my question is: do you have any best practices that you can share that enable you to achieve butter smooth landings with the PC-24?

Thanks so much in advance!

Try deploying spoilers on approach. This is how you do it in an F-16.

Are you saying that Carenado used F-16 physics for the flight model of the PC-24?
(Just kidding :innocent:)
Question: at what point would you deploy the spoilers: 100/50/10 feet?
Maybe combine spoilers with throttle idle at around 20 feet?

I would deploy at 1500 ft. That gives you time to balance the drag with more throttle.

Wow! That sounds interesting! Have to test that out in free flight. Thanks!
Still sad that it actually needs workarounds like these - Microsoft/Asobo/Carendo u listening?

Well, I haven’t seen the POH, so perhaps that’s standard procedure for this aircraft.

It is not standard procedure.
Standard procedure for spoilers is documented here: PC-24 Spoiler operation incorrect (including a nice YT video of a PC-24 landing).
Also stall speed should be 83kts (higher in sim) and Vref around a 100kts (higher in sim)

Personal Comments and Observations

I believe you’re not supposed to deploy the spoilers below 50’ AGL, so that’s your hard floor on a stabilized approach. It’s supposed to deploy automatically with weight on wheels during landing roll-out.

I really hope the stall (and there fore the landing) speeds could be fixed to more realistic. Seems to be too difficult for Carenado (or anyone who knows to do that) to do.

Moved to User Support Hub that is more appropriate for community support.

They’re not, well at least Carenado doesn’t seem to be. They developed this plane and with it being encrypted I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the ones who have to fix it. But there’s no money in a fix to default plane, so it’s probably a low priority for them.

That being said when I was flying the PC24 in the Sim I would approach st 130, go to idle at 50’, land as normally as possible and push the nose down while getting on the brakes. It’s as close to normal as we can currently get unfortunately.

Yes, that is how I land her but she is still quite unpredictable on the runway and I have lost more cred with this aircraft than most others. They sit in my passive hangar now and I prefer the CJ4. I now have an S rating for more missions in a row. With the PC24 I rarely held an S past 2 missions.

Yup haven’t touched it in many months… I also haven’t touched career mode in many months. Flew the CJ4 for a while then switched to the Longitude for career. But I’ve just been flying on Jet Card now

Yes this what I do.
-I assigned the throttle 10% to a button on controller for Ps5
-I assigned toggle spoilers to another button
-I switched to Manual control of AT to set speed a bit higher than the stall speed which is visible on the left indicator of the speed in PFD as green < symbol

As soon as you switch off AP in landing at about 200ft AGL,with the speed is at 130kts or less, disable AT, toggle extending spoiler at max, set flaps at max 33%, set throttle to 10%, land with back wheels, very slowly pitch down the front and only after pull the brakes.

With this technique I’ve been able to land also at rwys shorter than typical big airports (2600-2800 feet length).
