i prefer dx11 but dx12 is the only dx that is not crashing for me at the moment. 4090 and 13900k

Hi all!
Guys are its the game’s fault or the PCs??
I just got a new PC with the latest parts, but I still have the same problem, it crashes on desktop anytime.

point clarified

Hi there,

just installed the new Nvidia driver 527.56 but the sim still crashes to desktop. I tried every option in this topic to solve the problem but without succes. It is goodbye to the sim I’m afraid until a solution is found. It is now unplayable. A pity after many years of simming so I hope there will be a solution soon.

Is the topic title of this thread causing your CTD issues?

Yep, it does.

I had gone about 2 months without this error after switching to DX12 and I randomly just got it again.

I really hope this stupid error isn’t popping up again, Asobo needs to really do something about this.

Same here on 2070 Super, nothing changed, same settings, same hw, same everything…except last W10 and GPU drivers.

I’ve seen this box twice, since SU-11… both times, I had Ultra on for a screenshot and it happened in both cases when 1) real time bad weather was on, misty and cloudy and 2) while putting the drone camera in place for the screenshot. I guess it is overheating, I run low end graphics MX-330 which gets quickly overheated in Ultra mode. Before, I just got a CTD, without the box.

When I make a screenshot, I make sure I switch back to Medium after max 5 minutes or so. If I leave Ultra on, temperature goes up. For example, when I create a screenshot in MSFS, then go to the browser and this forum to put the screenshot and the story… when I forget my MSFS session at this point and leave MSFS in Ultra, it will crash… btw I found it helps to use the “experimental” energy saving option for menus in MSFS.

This may be some help with your issue.
The MSFS message isn’t quite correct.
From Post 11 in this topic, this is the response on the cause of the issue.

MODERATOR EDIT:
This post merged into this topic.

Your graphic device has encountered a problem and Microsoft Flight Simulator will exit this may be due to a graphics card overclocking overheating or due to driver default. HELP

This fixed it for me every time (if you are using multi monitors): Go to Options / Experimental - delete all windows except the main one, then add them back in, then go back and start your flight, no need to restart the Sim. This always fixed this issue for me.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

The problem only shows up when I toggle the Geforce GTX660M, when I use the integrated GPU the programme runs fine (although obviously very slowly and laggy)

Are you using DX12?

yes

Are you using DLSS?

no

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

its below the minimum spec… but funny that you can play with the integ. graphics card :joy:

Here are som facts to think about if you say that this issue is related to hardware malfunction or overclocking.

  1. There are lots of users out there claiming they havent overclocked their card. I am one of them.
  2. This pop-up was never seen before SU9 (as far as I know). For me it started with SU9.
  3. If this is caused by overheating a component it is very strange that some days I can play for hours with no problem at all. Another day it can crash in just minutes. Over and over again, and then it dissapears. If this is caused by heat the Sim is doing something wrong causing it to overheat. I do not have ANY crashes at all in any other game or application i run. (Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 1 and 5 for giving examples).

I think it is a shame they don´t speak up about this matter. I do love the game but its frustrating to “get into the game” when it works for some days and just as you really start to enjoy it and relax with it this darn bug appears again. I am not spending another coin on this until this is solved.

we say that it is currently “the most probaly reason”

Because I seen the comment from @CaptainCoop779 we should possible also bring that forgotten point onto the list :

and Warning: Your graphics device has encountered a problem - #1483 by MichaMMA

Had the GPU error again today with DX11. had no problems for over 1 week now. I just do not understand. there is always something new… up to SU10 beta I had a RAM error… they kept saying turn off XMP, do this and that… nothing helped… but it was fixed with SU10 beta without me changing anything. but then with Final SU10 and SU11 came GPU error and no more ram error. So it’s not my fault… and now again to this GPU error… I keep reading that I should reduce the settings? is that correct ? I have a friend who has the same error with a 4090… and before that he had a 2080ti and he didn’t have the error. so it can’t be because of settings

Thanks for your answers and tips, it is indeed solved here, with setting lower graphics levels in MSFS.

I switch the options very often, because I run low graphics on a laptop. In fact I keep tweaking MSFS graphics quality all the time, from the start in oct’2020 when I installed it. I can’t remember Ultra gave me more than 10 FpS, so when up and flying, i never use that mode. Nowadays, Ultra and High are both unflyable for me, they report 10FpS or less. I only use the higher modes for screenshots. To properly and comfortably land my airplane, I go 24FpS via Low. To enjoy the view while flying: use Medium.

This all may seem a negative story, but you won’t hear me complain about MSFS performance, I enjoy flying and I also still enjoy making my screenshots. But I would appreciate MSFS won’t exceed hardware limits and crash on low memory, or high temperature, or whatever.

You can tell your developers contact there exist tools to guard these things, see this link. on SO.

To rephrase my comment to allow for a skate across the most thin of ice … while reduction of graphics may help some there are a great many users in this thread with quite capable equipment still receiving the error on low settings.
