I am also seeing a strange effect over the water - see photos and video (video is not great quality - but you can see the shimmering)
Photo clearly shows it.
I have tried DLSS, TAA, image scale, Nvidia Panel, changed water quality. In short I cannot get rid of the shimmering and it may be related to the lost shine. I am only using DX11 as DX 12 remains poor for me. The effect is slightly lessened using low quality and TAA at 90%- but its definitely lost quality.
This was evident in Beta and remains the same now.
There is not much that break my enjoyment - but this is really very ugly in my opinion.
that can be, may be with the distance. But it looks not unreal for me, more in contrast is the sparkle visible if you near enough.
I found and older image and rechecked this postition and date. The effect is present ( hart to catch in a screenshot ) , but less noticable ( what I meant in my former post ).
here the old image with a āfor meā overdone sparkling bling-bling:
You keep calling sparkles and thinking that is an effect they removed, when that is nothing more than a consequence of not using AA. It may look like sparkles to you but thatās just lack of AA on the water surface.
But Iām not going to discuss this with you anymore, itās useless.
Iāve updated the original post with a video showing the results of going through all AA modes plus footage of real world sun glitter which the sim used to recreate brilliantly with TAA.
what I mainly see is the camera objectiv / effect ā¦ But there are also sparkles on the photo and we see they are noticable depends on the distance. And that seems exact the difference: sparkles still exist in MSFS, but you see it in same distance as in your screenshot (and not in 500meters away , like these firework we see with AA off in MSFS ). For me is all fine with sparklesā¦
I used to get absolutely brilliant water prior to SU10 but now I have the ādullā water whether I have it set to DLSS, TAA, or no AA altogether. In my case at least, it is not affected by AA settings at all.
Most recently it seems that the water quality has been degraded. There are many posts to this effect, but none that I could find that were reported recently. In older posts, it was said that anti-aliasing was the issue.
The water appears dull and lifeless, irrespective of what type of AA I have invoked (or even if I turn AA off altogether).
This seems to have occurred after SU10, but I donāt recall noticing this immediately after the update, only around a week (two weeks?) or so later.
I have āwater wavesā on āhigh.ā
All of my other settings are maxxed out.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
IĀ“m not sure if IĀ“m completely happy how the ocean or sea looks likeā¦ I mean I think it has too much of reflection. It looks like completely calm surface of water. I donĀ“t think that it is how the surface of ocean looks like in reality. There are always waves and wind which make it impossible to have that kind of reflection what I saw today. Just my thought. What do you think about it?
The reflections at different wind levels are mostly fine (except for the missing sparkle, of course). The problem is, that the overall impact of wind at the surface has been reduced recently. Even with stronger winds itās mostly calm at sea level now, which has reduced the occurence of realistic ocean waves quite a bit. Itās smooth as glass most of the time, which is far from realistic and something Iām also not happy with.
This hasnāt been fixed on Xbox Series X to this day. There is still no sparkling effect on sea or lakes and it was there before in the first half of 2022, even on much weaker Xbox Series S. Is this another graphical downgrade that will stay this way forever?
Itās not fixed on PC either. There are only certain areas Iāve seen with waves, and I have my graphics setting to high for waves. The ocean and most all bodies of water are smooth as glass.
