Just a bit frustrated tonight because I’ve been wanting a good quality VNY for years now! The ORBX version was “decent” for the short life it had and I hope others agree!
Why has no one took on VNY? It is THE busiest GA airport in the country and with all the bizjets we have and will have in the future it is only right VNY gets the love it deserves. So much history there!
I got my PPL out of VNY and have been employed at the airport for the last 9 years and have close relationships with a lot of higher ups! I can help ANY dev with reference photos and materials as I know this airport like the back of my hand!
The “current” and only version we have “ORBX” seemed to have been abandoned because it hasn’t even gotten a 2024 compatibility patch and does not work at all in 2024. The dev never fixed the horrible stutter issues it had and left this amazing airport to rot with no updates since at least 2023. Over 3 years and NOTHING!
There has been a substantial amount of changes and new property built in VNY then what the ORBX version replicates.
I just WISH that one day we can get a quality Van Nuys VNY airport to fulfil this gap.

I have flown in and out of VNY recently in MSFS 2024. To me it looked more or less like it used to look. I did not use the drone camera to scan every single inch but I did not see any glaring issues.
Sorry I rephrased the post. I was referring to the ORBX version, not the default sim version. Default scenery is just atrocious. Not just VNY but every other airport that is not handcrafted or 3rd party too. I never fly to default no matter how much I love the airport.
This is the 2nd busiest airport in SoCal! It is an absolute HUB for GA and corporate jets. The neglect of VNY in all of flightsim history is shameful. There is so much history here.
The ORBX scenery is just inadequate. There are not LODs on the objects. It’s completely obsolete. Please, please make an adequate scenery for this airport. Many pilots learned to fly at VNY, and it’s also just as important to private jet flying as KTEB.

Even if we get the scenery, I also noticed MSFS real-time traffic does a cruddy job of actually representing it as a busy, much less the busiest, GA airport. Very little motion happening there.
Thanks for starting this thread @FlyngWithJay I would love to see a detailed VNY. A family member of mine used to work for the aerial photography company that did a lot of filming for One Six Right, and the day after the movie premiered at VNY I got the opportunity to go in that hangar to photograph many of the featured planes. And then I got to fly out of VNY on the company’s helicopter… it was such a cool experience. I haven’t yet flown into VNY in real life, but I do frequently in MSFS and would love to see a detailed version to help re-live that awesome time.
