nobody remembers the pain of letting X-Plane/P3D awesome. Tons of mods, plugins, whatever you need… I’ve had several CTDs with X-Plane, none of them make me stop playing it. Be patient! This is the week one of a long journey
Yes, you are correct but that doesn’t change anything in regards to my statement. Maybe they should have had all available hardware plug and play but that is clearly not the case with FS2020.
What Yuudai5178 is saying is completely correct. It’s possible to be both realistic with expectations and kind, but still provide some critical feedback on the glaring flaws. I’ve been working with software and hardware for hay and pay for a long time, and even I’ll admit that the controls system is a bit finicky and not very streamlined. It works, but its far from perfect…

The name “Validate” makes no sense. The validation is automatic…The button should be “Confirm”.

There’s no obvious way to figure out what physical buttons correspond to what identifiers in the controls without using “search” which is silly. I should be able to rename buttons so I can readily identify button 43 vs button 26 or 39.
I do think that the descriptions of the mapping functions could be better to help people more. I did comment on this in the surveys. However, on the other hand it shows that there is the necessary complexity for what will prove to be a powerful flight sim.
This is the best comment.
Agreed.
Me too. Way too many under water marinas for me and under water cargo ships. None of my Go Flight panels work. I paid a lot of hard earned money on those. There are no statues on Easter Island!!!
I cannot operate all engines of a multi engine plane with my one throttle. The list of disappointing items is large.
I have been a simmer since the first sims came out I use Xplane11 and have owned every sim MS put out so enough with the noob ■■■■,The way the flightstick assignments are set is a 50/50 some it works for others it does not Mine it does NOT.
I cannot press ANY key and have that key assigned i have to MANUALY scoll down and select it I Cannot assign combonations like Shift+(anyother key) because as i said pressing a key does nothing, and you can only scroll and select single keys it is flat out broke. If this worked properly it would be great i could map hundreds of combos I have a saitek x52 with the three modes that i could use IF i could press xxx button to assign.
.so I agree I also have buttons and axis NOT mapped on the sim like the little scroll whell on the throttle and the little pointer button none of these even show on the diagram. you cannot spin the model to see behind the controler for the hidden buttons…I Understand the fustration as I am in that boat the sofewaye for configuration just is not working corectly for me… I watched tuturals read how to’s but it does not work on my system pressing a key to assign it does nothing
Sometimes users simply have to blame the tools because they are incompetent, we’re all doing fine here
What were you expecting? It’s the same on literally every other simulator. ARMA, DCS, Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen… All of those usually require you to manually map controls because there are simply too many controls and too many different controllers to support that they could make it work out of the box for everyone.
It literally took me 5 minutes to map all the stuff I need in order to fly a plane (flight controls, throttle, brakes, camera controls). If that’s too much for you then maybe this is game is not for you. Don’t blame the developers for your own laziness or incompetence.
Yes, you can operate multiple engines with one throttle, but there’s no “throttle” binding that controls all engines at once. Instead, you have to map your throttle input to throttles 1-4 one by one. It’ll warn you that the same input is mapped to some other function but it lets you ignore the warning and do it anyway.
Seeing the forum the last days it was expected with all the COD xboxers coming to a flight sim. It’s a battlefield (pun intended)
Sorry buddy, you are wrong. I purchased a Saitek x52 Pro with pedal, plugged it in and was on my way with FS 2004. No issues, no problem no nothing. Now, we have a new and improved version and it can’t even keep my settings. Further, the nomenclature on the FS is not the same as on the X52 programming software. And most importantly, you and all the other know it all’s on here need to realize that many people are buying this for the first time and are used to plug and play. To make matters worse, there is no single resource to go to for assistance. Nothing!! For people that play games all day you need to understand something about marketing, the more people that purchase a game with NO ISSUES, the more games are sold. That means more profit to develop more games . Its ridiculous that a game of this caliber can’t manage to import simple controller commands.
I blame them for not being able to import my preprogrammed control.
Perhaps. However, when I first purchased my controller a couple of years ago I plugged it in, booted up MSFS 2004 and off I went. No issues. Now a new and improved version of FS and I can’t even import my settings . To make matters worse, the nomenclature on FS2020 is nothing like that on my controller programming ap.
Two huge issues with setting up controls that may be frustrating newcomers:
-
First the use of the word “Validate” to confirm choices. Totally unexpected in most English-language UI’s. The term is typically “OK”, “Apply”, “Set” or “Confirm”.
-
Second, in the popup to choose a button or axis, the use of the “search” box is ambiguous and non-intuitive. The best way to use it is to mouse-click in the box so it turns gray, and then press the desired button or move the desired axis; the result is auto-detected. Using any other means to manually identify the control may show a selected input, but it might not actually work. Just put in an indication “Click here to detect then operate desired button or control”.
Once that’s done you can confirm the assignment works in the main control assignment selection screen. Operate the control and you should see it’s indicator in the assignments column flash or show an analog bar moving. But again, there’s nothing to tell you that this check step is available.
The UI is elegantly designed, but critical elements of it make no linguistic or logical sense in the context of countless software interfaces that have come before. If a user stumbles upon how it works, it’s easy to set up controls. But if not, they may genuinely get stuck doing things incorrectly with no feedback on how to resolve the problem.
“Operate the control and you should see it’s indicator in the assignments column flash”
this is the issue That does NOT happen I cannot push to assign i push ad NOHING happens I must scroll manualy select it and valadate it even AFTER i Assign it I press and NOHING flashes. It works in game in the setup I cannot see wha I just assigned by pressing it the ■■■■ directions even says “Press a key to assign”
But its not working…and to those blaming Pilot error How dare you be so rude just because you do not avethe problem does not mean others are having a software issue. it is not alway USER ERROR
some buttons on my stick are not even in the MS202 profile photo as if they do not exist as someome said above.
WOW helpful comment so because the software has an issue you call me an idiot? so whe you have a program, not working I guess your an idiot right? you don’t think I have the lasest drivers? wrong and OTHER have the same issue so guess were all Idiots by your book…comments like that and your way of tinking is why people like me hate talking to anyone at all…let alone ask for help
No single human being should ever take four hours to program a controller the other 76 replies in this thread confirm this.
sure IF the software works as intended when you cannot use half the commands because you cannot assign 2x keys at once because the software won’t let you or the push key to assign does not work ten ya…i guess is hould say NOone should have performance issues because I have had NONE so I guess ALL the others that do are Idiots they is no way there should have performance issues Because I dont…that is your logic talking. people like you make these fourms and this hobby sucky. I had NO problems Installing so I guess ALL the other people that did are IDIOTS There is NO way it should take hours to install and get running right?..
mouse-click in the box so it turns gray, and then press the desired button or move the desired axis; the result is auto-detected. again this feature DOES NOT WORK FOR ME NOTHING HAPPENS and i have everything selected and updated
That’s not correct.
There is axis for ‘ engine throttle axis 1’ etc, but there is also a ‘engine throttle axis’
