For VR users:

  1. Pilot2Atc - you communicate with ATC via voice, and the ATC is much more realistic vs. the default one.
  2. OpenXR Toolkit - game changer for customizing VR experience and for FPS improvement
  3. FlightSimulator.me - panels in VR allowing seeing PDFs, making notes.
  4. FSKneeboard - another set of panels allowing map for old school VFR navigation, no plane position, freely rotatable.
  5. Axis and Ohs - allowing customizing axes and buttons, even adding voice commands, MIDI devices support.

Top essentials are definitely (in no particular order)

  • NoHandleBar-Mod (very annoying!!)
  • ingame charts of favourite provider
  • 3rd party GNS devices
  • Addon linker
  • GSX for an easy and handy as well as intelligent pushback solution.
  • Axis and Ohs
  • Track IR

Addon aircraft and scenery are important but no ā€œessantialsā€ in my opinion.

Everything has already been mentioned (like SimBrief, LittleNavApp, FBW, GAIST, We love VFR,ā€¦) and also what I havenā€™t used yet. But what has not been mentioned yet (not a real add-on) and I often use for decision-making where to fly and which aircraft to choose in real weather is ā€œwindy.comā€. I also use Windy as an app on my smartphone.

It seems to me that it makes sense to transfer your question into a poll. Itā€™s yery good question.

Yep if you already have a bunch then when you update itā€™s going to ask where to put it, Just navigate to the folder and then it will remember it. at least itā€™ll do the deleting old stuff, unpacking, and zip deleting for you. the next update will be quicker!

Aerosoft Simple Traffic - FSTL is killing performance with FsHud for me even on lowest settings. Liveries looks really great so Iā€™m trading performance for pointy noses and looking at tails only :smiley:

Hi Jayne - just 5? Oh well - okay, Iā€™ll try my best to narrow it down :wink:

  1. PMDGs 737 (which version doesnā€™t really matter) as the best ballanced aircraft around when it comes to system depth vs. performance
  2. AIGs traffic package and tools as itā€™s incredible how much work has gotten into this whole pack and all the tools, just for free.
  3. FFX Vision Jet G2 - simply a fun to fly aircraft with stunning detail and performance
  4. Bagoluā€™s Reims Rocket/Hawk XP II as well as his C172S improvement mod (Flightsim.to Ā» Profile of bagolu)
  5. Basically everything from PuffinFlight (Flightsim.to Ā» Profile of PuffinFlight)

Worth to mention, even if itā€™s not an addon per se: Nvidia Game Filter which I always set up after a new driver dropped because for me the sim is a bit too saturated and cinematic. Itā€™s easy to correct it a bit using this functionality :slight_smile: my list would even include more like the FBW A320 and GAIST but I only was allowed to use 5 items now :wink:

I know I have had my shot but I would like to give an ā€œhonourable mentionā€ to Sky Dolly. Really great flight recorder: dead simple to use, no impact on the game and the replay works beautifully. Actually I would edit my list: drop the seaplane bases and replace with Sky Dolly:

  • Little Navmap
  • MSFS Addons linker
  • Bijanā€™s seasons
  • My one favourite aircraft mod: the Bonanza G36 enhancement mod. I used to own and fly a Bonanza in real life, so this one is too good to pass up on.
  • Sky Dolly flight recorder/replay
