What ASOBO/MICROSOFT Must Address in Their Next Stream: MSFS 2024 Feels Like a Letdown, Incremental Changes, and Unkept Promises from MSFS 2020

Are the A320 and A380 FBW planes in MSFS 2024 yet?

Im new to MSFS PC

The sim isn’t just about you. I’d be willing to bet there are many PC users glad that the sims footprint isn’t so prohibitive.

2020’s install size was an active deterrent to even trying the sim.

And there are plenty who don’t mind - but yet they’re having a poor experience due to the forced streaming and delayed rendering of assets that could quite happily sit on a hard drive.

It would be nice to have a choice.

Please speak for yourself. When you say many in the community are feeling disappointed that would be speaking for all of US.
For me 2024 is a big improvement from 2024 on a number of levels.
You are making a demand that Microsoft “Must” address in their next stream. They don’t have to address anything.
They may choose to address what fixes and updates are coming as they usually do.
People need to just chill out. This game is less than 3 weeks old.
Give them some time!

I think they have plenty to address.

Did you purchase a semi-finished product in full and wait for the factory to continue processing and repairing it?

Hey crazyfrogface, if you look at your RAM usage when the game loads, it will chew up about 28GB or so (for me). So I’m just barely making it with 32GB of RAM. So that’s just the RAM, I am just getting through with an Intel i7 8700 and an old RTX 2080 Super. I mean really, what did you expect with your (unfortunate) low spec machine? So no wonder it is unplayable for you, bummer but your PC - sheesh!

It’s gonna take me quite awhile to afford to upgrade my system, but that’s the way it goes.

it is going to take MS/Asobo a while to address the problems on THEIR side of things, but it will also take time for US to update our PC’s to properly take advantage of the new platform.
The thin client solution is definitely for the Xbox - MS software running on MS machines using the MS cloud and MS satellite and city imagery. Universal from top to bottom - the ultimate profit margin being the goal.
The PC market on this platform was always going to be a concession - not the focus. I bought MSFS2024 but I am not installing it until I can build a rig designed to best take advantage of this new deal - that might just be an Xbox. Next year when the sales begin and before the tariffs take effect I’ll have to decide which route to take. For now? this is likely to remain a mess for a few months at least.

I know they said early on that it was a thin client but it is definitely not, they misused the term. What we have is slightly less fat client, but it’s still a fat client not a thin client.

All of the processing unique to you is taking place locally on your computer, only the data that it operates on is being streamed. A true thin client has the processing taking place on the server side and only a simple display layer running locally. Xbox Cloud Gaming is a true thin client technology, it does all of the physics and rendering remotely and streams the final picture to display on your device as just a video stream. Of course, cloud gaming was available for FS20 and so a true thin client flight sim was already available.

Its lilley microsoft really wants to push their azure servers and show “hey look at what we can do with our servers” unfortunately for them this failed terribly.

This one is very irritating.

Bruh, what are you going on about. I have a 7800x3d, 64gb of RAM and a 4090 card and 800mbs hardwire connection and you’re saying I may need to get an Xbox? Yea, if that’s the case, this franchise is dead.

That’s interesting, when I look at the globe to choose an airport I can’t help thinking it’s a “me too” thing…to compensate for Google Earth smashing the barriers back in 2001 and Andoid Auto/CarPlay for potentially every car journey on the planet.

Reading the first post again, I think items 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 do exist in FS2024.

Networking improved significantly after 2 days.

I can get over 30fps on my Gtx1080ti (11GB) with low-medium graphics settings and the quad core Xeon is working harder. The visual detail and fps are better than what I get with 2020.

Seems like folks need to tune the graphics settings below ultra everywhere. There’s a good YT video about that, some settings have marginal to zero benifit but slow fps significantly in FS2024.

I think the glass is half full

Even with FS2020 I saw little if any difference between high and ultra playing in 4K. LOD is the big hitter when it comes to visuals and performance. Cranking the LOD right up does make the sim look much nicer. Massively hits performance though.

Yea, I’ve also noticed that MSFS 2024 eats RAM for breakfast. At some point it’s understandable, and I had a feeling my PC wouldn’t be capable of running MSFS 2024 well enough. That’s why I was counting on my Xbox Series X until I upgrade my PC.

But the Xbox Series X only has 16GB RAM, and that’s a shared combination. The Series X has many issues with this sim right now and I’m most definitely sure it’s a RAM problem. Low RAM is usually the culprit that leads to crashing, freezes and heavy stuttering. How anyone thought the Series X can run this sim with only 16GB shared RAM baffles me.

Just a few days ago, Xbox officially advertised MSFS 2024 on console offering 60FPS at 4K. I have VRR and I’ve never even seen 60 FPS on MSFS 2020, so how could 60 FPS be possible on MSFS 2024?

It’s your GPU that is choking your system.

I needed to upgrade to RTX 4080ti from RTX2080ti to get 45 fps.
I have a i9 13900K and 32 Gb RAM.

I am getting 45 fps consistantly on MSFS2020. There was a problem with scenery loading when 2024 was launched, which was a blockage at their end.
I have 520 Mb/s internet.

To get a decent 30 fps, same as CRT Telly, it is £2000 for a desktop.

Lots of disposable income or wealthy parents, the only way.

For me the disappointment is less about the specific bugs (even those that mean I have to keep using MSFS2020 for most of my ‘proper’ flying) and more about the loss of trust.

MSFS2020 has had problems since the start, some things that got fixed, others that did not, but a lot of the time, especially recently, MSFS2024 has been billed as the solution, that with a cleaner code base they could work on the improvements more effectively.

The MSFS2024 launch has shown that not to be the case, that adequate testing is still not being done and that once again the team, and by extension the users/players, are going to be playing catch up for the foreseeable future. Having to wonder if this next update is one that improves things or makes them worse is exhausting for everyone.

We can deal with that just as we did for MSFS2020, but I for one hoped it would be better this time.
