What CPU is the best CPU available that is needed to avoid CPU bottlenecks?

Hi,

do you think it makes sense to upgrade from an I7 8700k @5Ghz? And which CPU do you recommend.

Looking at those CPUs…

  • I9 9900K
  • I9 10900K
  • I7 10700K

My current Specs:
I7 8700K @Ghz
RTX 2080TI
DDR4 3200Mhz - 32GB
40" Monitor running in 4K Resolution

Thanks
Marco

I am def more leaning to AMD this time. Hopefully the 4000 chips aren’t far away

If it helps my 9700k and my 2080ti are perfectly matched (swapping between GPU and CPU limited constantly) at 3440x1440 resolution with Ultra settings (40-45fps in general). I was thinking I might get a 3080 but it looks like I will just be sticking to this setup for another generation. Will see what happens when I get my 4k screen set up again, that might shift things towards being GPU limited.

The fact that the next XBOX has 8 core amd processor and it’ll have fs2020 too, makes me wonder that probably the optimization will eventually lean towards AMD cpus? … we’ll see. Anyway, it should be so that the GPU is the bottleneck - always.

Anyway, can’t watch people playing FS2020 - ordered a R9 R3900x today. I spent two days thinking which one, intel or amd. Very hard decision.

Seem to limited by GPU there

Yes, I also intend to get the new RTX 3000 Series although I already have this 2080Ti.

There´s always one CPU Thread that is at 100% which I guess causes the CPU limit here? Is that normal?

In the picture you can see the A320 placed in KFJK. It seems as if CPU and GPU are equal here. So if I spend around 1400$ for a new Graphics card I might also need to buy a new CPU. Or am I wrong?

Regards

Here 9700kf have some random stutterings for no reason. 8 cores get less than second 100% usagge than retturns to 30 40%

Do you get CPU spikes before the stuttering?

Ryzen 3600 + Radeon 5700XT

These are on an X570 mainboard, so have PCIe 4.0 support, and an NVMe M.2 slot.

1TB NVMe WD Black SSD
32GB Corsair 3200 RAM

I think the memory and the fast SSD really make a difference. And the PCIe 4.0 lane for the GPU.

Up-to-date drivers, and a decent cable connection at 125 Mbps. That’s about it. The sim has only crashed once to desktop, for no apparent reason. Today I lost keyboard control, but that was caused by another bit of software running in the background.

All told, nearly a week into it now, I couldn’t be happier.

At same time nearly

Also have a 9700k and see 100% usage spikes resulting in stutters

The memory speed/timings are making indeed a huge difference when shoveling around the whole earth… :blue_heart:

Memory speed is important with AMD CPUs due to the way they use RAM. Look carefully at specs and purchase memory accordingly, from AMD’s QVL posted on their site. It makes a difference.

8700k should be well enough for MSFS. Not much meaningful improvement beyond 6c12t.

I would look into delidding your CPU and disabling spectre + meltdown protection, current CPU’s are not meaningful upgrades.

Take a look at the Core CPU scaling chart here:

I’m thinking it’s time for a cpu upgrade too. My little 5820k is starting to show its age. What a cpu though, 6 year old and only now starting to show signs it’s falling behind. I’ll wait 6 months to a year though, see where intel and amd are at.

The 5820k will be framed and hung on the wall to enjoy it’s retirement.

Just thought I would share my FPS experience:
TLDR: Get a i9 10900K + DDR4 3600 (I got 128GB because it was cheap, 32 GB will probably be fine for FS2020)

Landing the 747 at KJFK
i7 4790K + 32GB DDR3 1600 +1080TI gives 20 fps (GPU @ 60%)
Upgrade to i9 10850K + DDR4 2133 gives 30 fps
Upgrade to DDR4 2933 (I bought 3600) gives 40 fps (GPU @ 99%)

All done at 1440p. I am now GPU limited with the 1080TI

Good to hear. Looking at how things are this week will upgrade.I know for sure I will be very GPU limited when I upgrade the CPU.
Hopefully the newer GPU’s aren’t far off
2060super is not powerful as the 1080TI but my GPU usage is around 70-80% at JFK with the jets
My ram speed on my i5 8400 is 2666mhz.Would be interesting to see how much of a difference 3200-3600mhz would make.

The expectations are that Nvidia will be releasing their 3000 series in a week. Just rumors so far, but they seem to be strong ones.

Nvidia has an event coming in 7 days so who knows.
