What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

Completed my GA tour around and across the south americas with one longer flight from SMJP to TTPP.

I enjoy this beautiful continent and will be back when he has got the attention that he deserves. I am sure that I missed a lot of its attractions.

Now I went to africa.

Midway Atoll to Hawaii. Nobody at Midway but intermittent anarchy prevails in Honolulu. Not nearly as bad as Tokyo. Are all the large cities this busy now?

Looks peaceful but If I turned traffic nameplates on…busy busy busy!

Nice, that looks beautiful, did you nail the landing at first attempt? Doubt i would make that landing on the first go, i should go practice…

I was enjoying a nice flight and hit the pause button to change a lod setting, and the game decided to just not work. Not pleased with this update at all. Asobo needs to figure out how to do their job! I have tried my best to not let the state of this game bug me, but I get sickened when I remember how much money I have basically wasted on it… :disappointed:

As my young trainee will be here on Tuesday and has requested to try the A320 thought I’d better see if I can get it set up, to date only ever having flown GA. After 2 hours of messing about, discovering FBWA32NX doesn’t want to play etc. I eventually got airborne VFR and managed to sort out the autopilot controls.

Returned to EGNT using the heading and altitude controls then hand flew an, ahem!, “approach”. Discovered disconnecting the autothrottle was a bad idea and predictably stalled out and crashed!

So now looking for a good guide on how to do it properly.

Theres a sort of rundown above in this thread it might help you.

This afternoon…

Can we quit with the ■■■■ rainbows already:

And I like this pic especially, its 1700 eastern Im facing west and look at the cars in the parking lot, what wrong with this picture:

Give up, the sun is behind the cars to the west and obscured by clouds, totally breaks the immersion I just cant play under these circumstances LOL !!!

Just sounds like a piston engine for now unfortunately. Will try to see what fun things we can do with the theme with some of the animation potentially

@DanRoman56 Very nice! Is this ship an add-on? Where is this? Let me know please. Thank you.

Took a flight from Grosse Island Michigan to Bad Axe Michigan in our C152 Great Lakes loop for a long leg

It’s new payware on ORBX from Seafront.

Tested out the new Xbox controller bindings doing a casual VFR flight from Portland (KPDX) to Columbia Gorge Regional / The Dalles Municipal (KDLS) over remote desktop from the other room, so I could sit in the air conditioning during the afternoon heat.

Remote desktop hurts the frame rate and does some lossy compression, but it’s surprisingly playable!

I pretty much got the hang of most of the controls, though I’ll have to go over the full list for a few things. Fine control on the main flight surfaces is definitely still a little tough, but if you have a light touch and get a hang for how big the dead zone is, you can actually do pretty well.

Still like my yoke better though!

Did this one without the map and didn’t take my usual route, so was afraid I’d miss my destination, but I found it ok!

The tale of the In-Flight Emergency

The virtual civil aviation authorities will be in touch with Asobo. this virtual pilot has been cleared of fault and awarded himself a pat on the back and merit badges! lol

FBW-A32X NEO. I use flight planning software and check my fuel consumption versus estimated fuel consumption at multiple waypoints on the trip. It is usually accurate to within 200-300kg if I didn’t fly stupid.

Today Gatwick to Madrid, except half way through the flight I note the ‘slightly high’ fuel consumption had turned guzzling at over 110kg/m at one point. The MCDU told me EFOB -1.1 (and fluctuated wildly). If nothing changed I had 40 minutes fuel remaining and was 60 minutes from my destination.

I check the system status and note it seems the external temperature is much too high… the glitch in Asobo’s last update is the obvious reason. Kill the session, or is it an… unforseen inflight emergency? I go with the emergency.

Assuming more oxygen would reduce fuel burn, I drop to FL200 to reassess the situation and potentially start my descent at twice the distance, to reduce my consumption even more… just enough to make my destination on fumes. It seemd like a good plan, and could find another airport if it was too close to empty

Madrid is 21c yet somehow it is +38c (ISA +44) at 20,000ft Going from 40kg/m to 110kg/m this was not helping - 16 minutes fuel remaining at this consumption rate. I need to get this bird down now!

I check the MCDU APT button… still not functioning. I hit the APT option for the PFD and note a vaguely familiar ICAO code… I quickly look up the chart, note it had a long enough runway, even ILS equipped, and it’s just at the edge of my descent range if I start descending now.

I check for terrain, turn on the radar, start a descent to 8000 while I bury my head in the MCDU… changing the destination for the first time mid flight, setting up the approach etc. I changed the destination, but not the whole plan, so it was a mess… and I had little time, but I saw the approach route, so used the heading bug to line up… checking for terrain, and use the APPR mode to capture the ILS. Once lined, up, had a nice approach for a perfect landing… with UNDER 1000kg fuel remaining. All passengers safe!

A fun exercise putting what I have learned so far to the test. Got the whole thing rercorded with my boring commentary if anyone’s interested, but I note even short vids get very few views from here.

this is at FL200 - note 119kg/m. I am now angry with myself… looking now, N2 is 106%, and probably had been for awhile… that should have tipped me off. grrr

Nice addition of the new reflections FBW!

Planned a flight from SEGU to SEQM. No weather reports for any of those airports, no metar, no nothing from Meteoblue. “Station not available” on the FBW A320.

Ditched that flight and planned one from EHAM to LEMD.
Had the extremely unrealistic temperature when climbing and cruising. Plane was burning fuel like crazy. Logged off.

Then read about the volumetric lighting not existing anymore.

I love FS, but I gotta take a little break until they bring back all that’s missing.

I hope it’s really soon.

Flew until the program froze. Several times. I feel like an Alpha tester.

I managed to do my first ILS landing (or rather have the A320 do an ILS landing).

I still have so many questions! When ATC gave me a runway approach I entered it on the flight computer (MCDU?). The effect was interesting. My co-pilot on radio duty filed a new flight plan which send my plane into a 360 turn.

The temperature is wrong as well, dunno if that has anything to do with it, probably not

It continued after the loop, did another one on approach… but caught the glide slope and brought the plane in on APR mode

The second loop happened at a waypoint transition

I parked, refueled and wanted to enter a new destination. After a lot of trial and error I finally got the Direct to button to accept an ICAO code, Kansas city KMKC. It made a flight plan, at least it looks like a flight plan. Departure is called USER though.

However, no options to file the plan or talk to ATC at all. I requested taxi for west departure and turned on AP after take off. It looks like the plane is headed for Kansas city. (Can’t check on the VFR map, that crashed when entering the runway approach for Chigago)

Still no options for ATC in flight, VFR map still dead. I selected a runway approach after checking the weather for Kansas city hoping that would trigger anything but nope, no options.

I included the dead VFR map in the shot, still stuck where I entered the approach for Chigago.

How do I get ATC to talk to me again?
How do I create a valid flight plan (at an airport) and file it for IFR flight?
Why is it making loops?
Where is the light switch for the cockpit?
(figured that one out, light and dimmer switches all over the place!)

The hard part is, I don’t know what’s a bug or what I’m doing wrong!

Arrival in Kansas city under radio silence

Only controlling the descent, the plane caught the glide slope and started to descent further on its own. I turned off AP a bit before the runway as it very much looked like it was sending the plane to the left of the runway. A small correction and perfect landing.

Nothing here and I realize I’m at the wrong airport, not the international one. Maybe that’s why the radio won’t do anything, it’s just a short hop to KMCI

I didn’t bother with the MCDU for this hop, up and down, clear night, easy vfr. And still nothing after parking at the gate

I tried several frequencies from KMCI, it’s selected to ground in the shot. I tried the other ground frequency and the tower frequencies, nothing.

Is it just one stop then done? End flight, create a new one to get ATC working again?
Or a bug with the radio?

Btw the logbook logged my 3 part flight as 2 takeoffs and 1 landing. I guess only the ones with ATC count as the second take off the radio still worked for Departure to the West. (yet no further options after take off)

almost midnight in LA, but morning in London… A cruise up the Thames, checking out scenery links. Not only ORBX London working, but Southend and London City airports. I regret ORBX just hasn’t listened to the pleas of helo pilots for detailed, working helipads. Anyway, post updated links are almost all checked and working - to a point.
