What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

Saw that greyed out replay switch myself. Wonder what that’s all about.

I won’t be so quick to complain. Just had a great flight KATL to KTPA. 59 minutes in the default A320. Enjoyed the graphics and landed with AI ATC directing through an ILS landing on 19L with live weather.

that will be my last post here
edit: and that statement gets a like? wow

I went back to DCS for a bit, as SU7 is a dud for me with the weather and crazy haze effect.

I flew the f18 and did some tests with it, I think the aircraft is really awesome , we have a way better detailed cockpit than the one in fsx acceleration and I’ve landed it on a remote dirt field up to a highway to a small airport so far with it, I’ve got to try to land it on a beach next but it’s awesome I also did a supersonic fly by of my house at 1000 feet

Messin with the F/A 18 some more, harased a couple of jet liners, got bored and proceeded N and took these:

Figured out how to get out my uniform and get a G-Suit on:

Then it got dark out and I decided to go play in the Dirt, except there is no FLIR…comon really no FLIR man…

What kind of broadband do you have? Perhaps contacting your ISP would be worthwhile?

I have 200 Mb/s fiber optics.

It’s not a local issue. It’s a MS / Azure issue.

I found a solution: connected via a free VPN to USA servers, immediately got 100 Mb/s download speeds.

MS keeps on gaslighting us that slow download speeds are a user problem, but it actually is an Azure bandwidth allocation problem.

Got a new gaming PC delivered this evening, so what I did (am doing!) today:

I forgot how much fun flying a tactical jet was. And I remembered to unload the wings before turning and the least stressful way to point the jet down without G LOC is to roll inverted and point down. A little too hot on the approach into Narita, but the Velocity Vector is so helpful to determining touchdown point. I was really surprised at how clear that HUD was.

I’ve been looking for ILS flights I can practice in the Cessna 152 that don’t require DME and found one to try out tonight from my home airport in Flagstaff/KFLG to Mesa Gateway/KIWA. Without GPS, I couldn’t include any STARS for the route, so I went with a direct connection from the KFLG RWY 21 OATES departure to KIWA ILS RWY 30C via PXR. Crossing the OATES waypoint puts you about 4 miles east of the infamous Sedona/SEZ airport, which is looking a little stealthy here between the strut and Hwy 89A.

By the time DRK 297° intercepts FLG 172° at FERER, the Phoenix lights are looming just ahead and it’s time to lose FLG/DRK and switch to PSX for the next leg. ATC seems to be on the ball with this flight, with no unusual altitude demands or overly excessive handoffs. Flying into Phoenix at night is pretty spectacular and it’s also nice to see all the other traffic swirling in and out of Sky Harbor, which I am conveniently bypassing.

With PSX intercepted, it was on to IWA and mentally preparing for a procedure turn after SNOWL at the I-IWA 123°/TFD 028° intercept and then moving down I-IWA 303° for localizer and glideslope. The sim started stuttering as I was getting ready for this, so I paused and saved the flight just in case. 30 seconds later came the CTD…or XBOX version of that anyway.

Kind of disorienting re-loading the flight, to find the cabin lights turned off and the plane pointing 120 degrees off from where I had saved it. By some mercy, altitude was reasonably close to where it had been saved and air speed, while 20 kts faster, at least didn’t have me falling out of the sky.

After some quick adjustments to fix that mess, and then outbound from IWA, I hear ATC alerting another flight to my presence. Strange they aren’t asking me if I’ve seen the other traffic. Then it dawns on me I’m not being contacted about anything and my ATC menu looks stuck pre-approach. So the crash has dropped me into some sort of Stephen King Langoliers scenario where I’m phased partially out of past & present and stuck with bad & probably worse ATC options. So time to just pretend all is well with ATC.

Except for the poor traffic that was alerted to my quantum ghost a minute ago. Looks like they’re making the same procedure turn I am, just a couple miles further down the IWA 123° radial.

Back on I-IWA now, lined up on the localizer and making decent work of the glideslope.

What are the odds the aircraft back behind me is another pokey old GA that I won’t be holding up? The sudden reflection flashing across the Cessna dash plaque gave me enough time to glance right and see the ominous shark fin rushing by.
KFLG-KIWA-8

Close shave on that bobsled run. And then for some reason just as that massive passenger jet was moments from touching down, they lofted back up and called missed approach, leaving me wondering if they were opting to swing back around and vent some sim-rage on the snail that clogged up the center ILS runway. In any case, the landing was smooth and PAPI approved.

Afterward, while grabbing drone shots of the airport, I guess I was due to pay the price for my re-spawning insolence and was handed a critical damage card as my heedless Cessna sat parked a couple thousand feet below.

Even though the 152 is slow & methodical, manually flying it on IFR routes using VOR beacons, intersections and ILS approaches is really satisfying.

Flew over Saint Helena (British overseas territory) with the eVTOL and the BN-2 while listening to a podcast talking about it, it’s a shame the airport isn’t there.

I took the NXCub on a flight along the French Riviera, found the Monaco F1 track as well! I went along the coast for a bit then headed back towards Nice International. From there, I turned inland to land at a small airport in the French Alps (in-game airport code LFTA). I picked runway 26 for landing, but only after stopping did I realize it had a downhill slope. So runway 06 will be the better option if you look for a great small airport to practice STOLs.

Some amazing visuals on approach into Knoxville, TN (KTYS) on this 38 minute flight from Louisville, KY (KSDF) as part of our on-going 50 state tour. Our second post SU7 flight, things went great. Just great. Some ATC bugginess and some issues with taxi ribbons on landing, but I don’t sweat the small stuff. I’m loving the haze and thought it looked amazing on final. Welcome to Tennessee!
