#ProTip: Alcatraz is also the name of the island it’s built on.
could you get back into the water and take off?
My friend just posted this account of getting his IRL light twin into Florida’s shortest paved runway:
And it just so happened to make a convenient next leg on my cross country trip, so of course I added it to the itinerary.
St. George Island, FL → Cedar Key, FL in “Big Red”
Blasting out of St. George. Apparently I should have flown this thing on the Alabama leg:
Looked like a great day to cruise the beach front, rattling the neighbors with this big radial and obnoxiously red airplane plastered with “Roll Tide”. Is there a big rivalry between Florida and Alabama? I don’t know anything about sportsball.
“Cedar Key Traffic, ‘Big Red’ overlying at 1500, entering on a left downwind for Runway 23 full stop.”
How does that runway look so big on the ground and suddenly become so small on short final?
Floated too much on the flare, and went around. The ASI is harder to read on this T-6 so I wasn’t watching my speed like a hawk.
Yup did it in the cub and the pilatus. works just fine.
I discovered the merriam crater and the sproul in Arizona near Flagstaff on an almost beautiful 2 hour flight from Phoenix to Salt Lake City.
I missed the nearby meteor crater because I am in the captains seat and the meteor crater is on the copilots side.
Unfortunately msfs crashed once more with the runway in sight at 200ft right before touchdown At least the flight was logged.
I found it. Flew all around it last time but thought it was bigger. I don’t typically use the POI to get me there but would rather search. That made Rushmore quite difficult to find but satisfying. Alcatraz representation in the sim really does need some love.
I managed my second fully completed flight in a row since turning off live weather and using a static preset. Certainly not my preference, but better than CTD mid-flight.
I was flying over Etna a couple of days ago. Having been there a few years ago I know it should be largely grey and black on the upper slopes but in MSFS it was bizarrely green, including some of the craters. Or at least some tiles were, and the square edges between black and bright green tiles was quite jarring.
Did a flight last week from Martha’s Vineyard to Manchester-Boston Regional. Checking free and pay scenery. Creators have been improving their Martha’s Vineyard airport.
No snow there, but on the the mainland, plenty. Another creator made seaplane scenery on a small lake. As it was iced, I wonder who’d land on it.
The bridges at Boston scenery was cool, but I’m a novice at Boston. Would be nice to see a payware KBOS, though. The Constitution is done rather well…
On to MIT’s lab in the country and yet another creators treatment of Haystack Observatory.
Flight ended at Manchester-Boston airport. Payware, simple, as with most developers, ORBX, included, active helipads are non-existent, though visible in Google. Interesting to note, a martial was waiting for me in the general helo area…
Other than that, it was new territory for me and pleasant in the represented weather… Cheers!
Just some various test flights:
Thats funny the PP is red ingame on my screen why is it orange in the pitctures?
did a short hop from Frankfurt to Innsbruck today. Frankfurt was busy as always. Innsbruck could clean the runway more often…
Flew Amarillo Texas to Clovis New Mexico today in the twin otter almost to the goal of San Diego
Continued my around the world tour in my Cessena 208B
A beautiful sunset landing into Fort Knox from Birmingham - Alabama, a smidge under 2HR’s
