How many fighter aircraft does the New Zealand Royal Air Force have?
One. And this is it.
Well, not the exact one, but it is true that the Royal New Zealand Air Force currently operates only one fighter aircraft, a Spitfire LF Mk. IX E in the Air Force Heritage Flight. And thanks to Jan Kees Blom, my Mk. IX is also in Royal New Zealand Air Force livery.
Continuing my flight down North Island, I departed Whangarei (NZWR) for Gisborne Airport (NZGS), though the departure was not without its misfortunes. I requested a parking spot for a cold and dark start, but was spawned ready to go on the runway. This has been happening a fair bit recently. A restart produced no different result, so I decided just to go.
Also, you’ll notice the lack of cannon on the Spitfire. I bought from FlyingIron, not the Marketplace, so the cannon should be there. And sometimes they are. And sometimes they’re not.
Oh well. On with the flight. Over terrain that’s flat:
And not so flat:
Arriving at Gisborne Airport I was confronted by something that may exist elsewhere, but I’ve never seen before:
“Oh, the railroad comes through the middle of the hou- er, runway.”
Still, I dodged the trains and got parked up safely:
Bonus content for those of you wondering where the quote comes from. 1956, so even I should be too young to know about it. But apparently not:
