Today I flew a few aerobatic routines over Duxford with the Spitfire, P-40N and An-2 among others, after barely being able to spend any time in the sim over the last few weeks.

After that I flew the new FSR500 from Duxford to Egelsbach, Germany.

How many fighter aircraft does the New Zealand Royal Air Force have?

One. And this is it.

Well, not the exact one, but it is true that the Royal New Zealand Air Force currently operates only one fighter aircraft, a Spitfire LF Mk. IX E in the Air Force Heritage Flight. And thanks to Jan Kees Blom, my Mk. IX is also in Royal New Zealand Air Force livery.

Continuing my flight down North Island, I departed Whangarei (NZWR) for Gisborne Airport (NZGS), though the departure was not without its misfortunes. I requested a parking spot for a cold and dark start, but was spawned ready to go on the runway. This has been happening a fair bit recently. A restart produced no different result, so I decided just to go.

Also, you’ll notice the lack of cannon on the Spitfire. I bought from FlyingIron, not the Marketplace, so the cannon should be there. And sometimes they are. And sometimes they’re not.

Oh well. On with the flight. Over terrain that’s flat:

And not so flat:

Arriving at Gisborne Airport I was confronted by something that may exist elsewhere, but I’ve never seen before:

“Oh, the railroad comes through the middle of the hou- er, runway.”

Still, I dodged the trains and got parked up safely:

Bonus content for those of you wondering where the quote comes from. 1956, so even I should be too young to know about it. But apparently not:

While Flying the Fokker 28 4000 I Broke out of the time loop I got stuck in (constantly crash landing at Hopedale) by ignoring Hope Dale and did a flight from Gander to CYYR Canada

Today’s plan is to finish off my journey down New Zealand’s North Island with a quick flight to Wellington International (NZWN) from Gisborne Airport (NZGS).

I’ll take the F/A 18. The trip’ll be over in no time.

H’mm, that’s some nasty weather ahead. Never mind, I’ll just head for that gap in the clouds.

Well, that didn’t work.

Overflying Wellington.

No matter, Wellington International has ILS. I just have to … when did I last fly the F/A 18? Come to think of it, have I ever used the ILS in the F/A 18? Not that I can remember. Possibly diverting might be the responsible aviator’s choice. And in this case, mine too.

Land ho! Now I just have to fly to Paraparamua (NZPP)…

Safely down.

Now you might think that that’s that, but I’m not so easily beaten.

Onward and upward! (But not too far upward, because of all the clouds.)

Not going to let a little rain stop me.

Wellington, no doubt named after the boots needed to live here.

Not the easiest landing in a thirty knot headwind, but I’m down. I’m in the H160 so I’ll just taxi… not in a thirty knot wind I won’t. Oh well, shut down where I am.

And the picture above is me shut down, with the rotor brake applied, in a thirty knot wind. Notice anything about it?

Finally on my last leg with the rusty TBM 930 from Genova to Geneva. Where I will grant myself a new (free) paint job.

Photo book

Impressed by this highway (also with myself that I once drove a car there IRL):

Traffic in sight!

Trying to do a “hold” on this waypoint … for training purposes

It worked, but I did not realise it would only do it once:

I hope ATC will guide me over these mountains, I did not actually check before-hand.

Lol what are you doing ATC

image

Imagine this in IMC, you will not survive if you follow ATC. Any tips for flying over mountains, would be nice.

Basically I had to ignore ATC during the entire approach and landing

Update, upgrade:

Took the Albatros from Jorge Chávez International at Callao (SPJC) to Alejandro Velasco Astete at Cusco (SPZO)

I started to fly the Albatros VOR to VOR a while ago, but soon after takeoff I could not get a fix on the nearest station. First I thought it will get better as I get some altitude, but it didn’t. My next VOR station was invisible too, so I ended up flying the route based on GPS. While flying I searched the web and it turned out the VOR issue over Peru is a known bug in MSFS for over a year now

Like I mentioned, when I was doing Danube journey. You just landed at the airport that is closed for 10 years.

Hmm… And I just noticed Morava river seems very clean / blue. Never seen it like this.

KLAX to KPHX (Phoenix Sky Harbour.)

I originally thought I’d head down towards San Diego/Tijuana but decided I wanted to have a look at the aircraft boneyard outside Tucson so headed to Phoenix instead.

Leaving LA with LAX behind me.

Sheephole Valley Wilderness, a little north of Joshua Tree National Park.

Genesis Solar Energy Project, NW of Chuckawalla Valley State Prison

Today was the first landing in the Comanche that I feel I got close to perfect, probably a little room for improvement even on that but I allowed my self a small, but nonetheless smug, grin. No doubt next time I’ll be requiring the Fire and Rescue services :upside_down_face:

Phoenix Sky Harbour.
