What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

Friend of mine has won a ride in a full-size A320 simulator and asked me if I could bring him up to speed on the rudimentaries of the plane. This was motivation enough for me to weather the Xbox visuals downgrade and go tubelinin’ myself in order to properly teach him tomorrow.

Since we both live in Switzerland, he asked for a NCE turnaround out of ZRH. So that’s what we’re doing - even if the Bravoairspace LX livery is missing the neo racoon mask. Limitations of the Xbox platform or not, I’m glad that I can still set up a visually believable gate experience. PAX and cargo were quickly loaded and off I went with a smooth 62t of aircraft hanging on those engines.

Bye bye homebase, see you again in a few hours. The ini A320neo is a boon for us Xbox users and a real pleasure to fly. Very easy to handle in normal ops with a simbrief flight plan.

The reduced LOD distance really reared its ugly head over the alps, but it wouldn’t make them any less impressive, especially with those weather bands covering the peaks.

No visible PAPIs? No problem. The ini neo handled the RNAV Z 04L approach like a champ, even with early descent and shortcuts.

Took my sweet time on ground to patch in the new flight and almost took off with ENG 1 off, because I switched off the ignition too early - completely forgot that the LEAP engines have a rather long motoring phase after a turnaround in order to cool down the core to startup temperatures first. But that’s exactly why I’m doing these flights, I’m allowed to make mistakes and learn from them without having the real piece of machinery (and ultimately lives) at stake.

Bye bye low res NCE, see you again tomorrow!

Last turn east of GVA before initialising descent into the DOPI2G arrival for RWY28 in ZRH. Mont Blanc is right down there - the waypoint is aptly named MOBLO.

Strong northwesterly winds brought a cloud blanket and lots of rain with them. Again, no issue for the neo - but man, was I relieved to see the runway (or what was supposed to be it) well ahead of the minima.

Touchdown on RWY 28, autobrake MED and a good amount of reversers applied. At this point I didn’t care if unsecured cabin items made their way to the fwd galley, the landings onto LSZH28 are tightly sequenced and I had taxiway J to catch.

Back at the gate just in time to dock the bridge and shut the aircraft down before the avionics got haunted by black screens. All in all a successful tubeliner turnaround on Xbox - that was lots of fun, have to do it more often!
