Flight from Paris Orly to Cardiff. Late October skies and Sun say the year’s again getting old.
I reached South America on my tour around Pacific in DC-3 in real weather: MPMG SKLC
Unfortunately weather was not good. At departure, Panama City, There were broken clouds, but I could find way to climb to 9500ft. And then there were even less clouds on the way. So I could navigate both visually and using VORs. I planned the flight VOR to VOR. However, then I reached mountains at border of Panam and Colombia. And there was quite overcast at the other side of the mountains. I turned a bit north, descend and got bellow the clouds. Then I followed coast of Atlantic towards LCE VOR. I could fly at 1800ft. So I just flew towards the destination. I didn’t really want to divert to alternate, because it was exactly opposite direction than my next leg. I finished before landing checklist just before reaching south side of gulf de Uraba. Then I followed a road that should lead to the airport. And double checked by VOR position. I was flying at 700ft and clouds were getting thicker. But I continued and then the runway appeared right in front of me and I was perfectly aligned with the runway. That was quite good navigation. I was just a bit high, but the runway was quite long, so still safe to land.
More superb Papua New Guinea, in the superb Black Square Caravan.
You can’t see it, but this runway has a dogleg at the end if you need that little extra.
Keeping up with my peeps, and their various agricultural concerns.
So many airstrips!!
Really fun valley descent.
One last landing at this picturesque beachside airport.
Happy flying!
Took my first flight in the Got Friends F4F. Crash landed but overall very happy with this one. Worth the $$
Next leg of New Guinea challenge bush-trip in WB-Sim C172 in real weather: AYHQ AYYP
Weather was good, few clouds, almost no wind, but hot. And again C172 was lazy to climb in the heat. I had to be very careful to no hit trees after takeoff.
There were lot of rivers in the area, so navigation was easy. But approach was not. Wind was calm, so I could use both directions. But runway 11 got approach from open terrain, so I thought the approach would be easy, instead of turning into valley. I joined right-traffic downwind, but when turning to base I lost the runway from sight. Worse view in right-traffic. After 2 go-arounds I realized there are tall trees right at the start of runway. Therefore, it was hard to see it. And it would be very hard to not overrun. I think possible, but very risky. So I turned around and decided to land rw29. It was easier to follow the runway in left-traffic. From downwind I descended to the valley and followed river that lead me to smooth touchdown on runway.
It will be fun departure. It’s definitely not possible to takeoff 29. So I will have to takeoff 11 and climbing out of that valley will be challenge.
Took the headwind Boeing 787 9 from Kingston Jamaica to Miami International
Flew the Embraer EMB 110 from Miami to Space Coast regional Florida
Blasting from Moorea (NTTM) to NTTB (Bora Bora) in the Vertigo:
Having fun in the Astro ONE over and around Mont Otemanu:
Nice new Bora Bora enhancement DLC by Cli4D Designs.
After a week flying helicopters, mostly the H145 but latterly the H160, I decided I needed to be flying something completely different. Still in Brazil, flying from SNKI to SNVC - apparently the airfields also have names, but that’s no concern of mine.
See? Nothing like a helicopter. After all, what helicopter flies like this?
Flying over Brazilian hill country.
Landing at SNVC wasn’t like landing a helicopter at all, no sirree!
And, once again cold and dark, any fleeting resemblance to the unmentionable alternative was entirely dissipated.
Where did you get that great livery?
American Airlines A320-214 N126UW from Palm Springs (KPSP) to Midland International Air and Space Port (KMAF)
Today we took the H160 for a spin,…
and quickly realised that we’ve got a long way to go before being able to fly her like these talented Guys.
Is it my turn yet ?
