As a long-time flying boat fan, I have no idea why it took me so long, but I decided to take a quick spin in the new-to-FS2024 Grumman Albatross. What a nicely-made plane! This one is going to get a lot of time from me in the coming months.
Short Saab 340B flight from KROC to KBUF NY
[FS24] Took out the X Cub for the first time. What a joy to fly! This is my first real flight with a tail dragger, so there was a bit of learning to do and, as you will see, plenty of mistakes to be made.
Heading out from Lemhi County in eastern Idaho, we headed west to do some bush flying, first heading toward Otter Bar (KOB9). I was there a few weeks ago, but I forgot how it is perched on an outcrop of rock overlooking the river below. A challenging approach!
Then we continued west, with the intention of heading to Hettinger Ranch, but…well, I’ll let you see for yourself.
A new experience to be sure!
Right away after lifting off, I turned west towards the mountains, but that was a mistake. I had to level out off course for a bit to gain enough airspeed before going over those mountains. This is not the first time I would make that mistake…
But, once I made it over, the view was absolutely stunning! A lot different compared to the last time I was here, before the snowfall.
My first stop, Otter Bar. A challenging approach.
And I came in just a little bit too low, what with that giant rock and all.
But, through the magic of flight sim technology, I was able to pick the plane back up, dust her off, and get on my way!
Remember the mistake I made earlier? Yeah, I’m a slow learner. Tonight’s question: will PaxFlyer get to the top of the ridge before he stalls?
Answer: No, no, he will not.
I’m sure I can find my way home from here, right?
First Fenix + GSX + BATC flight in FS24.
YPAD Adelaide - YPDN Darwin
KI terrain spike still visible from RWY 23.
At least they’ve tried to fix the dry salt lakes. Unfortunately instead of deleting the water polygons that existed in FS20 so that we can see the detail of the dry lakes surface, they’ve kept the polygons and painted them white, so it looks awful still. These salt lakes look very pretty IRL, but these blank white polygons look like they are from a 90s computer game.
All of the autogen airports I’ve seen so far (which admittedly is only a few) have broken jetways.
GSX and BATC both worked with a few minor glitches, Fenix worked with the only issue being the EFB touchscreen unreliability. Now I just need FSLTL working (as native traffic is still awful), and the rest of my airports and it’ll be a mostly usable simulator.
FPS similar to FS20 but more consistent, very few stutters on this flight.
Nothing mine stuck on low FPS, 7…
Regina, Saskatchewan to Winnipeg, Manitoba
Before the flight, I played around with some of the settings. Such as AutoPilot AI
I have come to the conclusion that the option is still flagged as “Work In Progress” at this time, since it didn’t do anything when I turned it on.
Mid-flight I decided to hit LB + B which is supposed to make my pilot get out of the plane, it turns out you just get a warning message if you do this mid-flight. That’s somehow good to know.
@Pax1385 - We’ve all been in that position plenty of times. It’s a good thing that you have unlimited planes of each plane, otherwise I think I would have been walking everywhere after a while in MSFS 2020
Decided to go boat spotting.
Pleasure craft. If your idea of pleasure is hauling in fish at 2 in the morning.
Battling bugs everywhere
I decided to go floating so I took a balloon to a field south of Adelaide.
I found 5 bugs before I managed to get off the ground, including a stuck game loop and a CTD. But once I got floating it was great fun.
Seems there are some loose bits.
This is going to start a bush fire I’m sure.
Help! This is going to be a short flight.
Just floated through the gap, what luck!
Nice views.
Uh oh none of the pressure gauges work, this could be dangerous.
Oops I shouldn’t be in the class C.
This is very relaxing.
After 6½ hours of floating around wherever the wind decided to take me, it was getting late with the sun setting soon so I needed to land.
I’d just about drifted to the River Murray north of Mannum, roughly 130km as the crow flies, but certainly much further as the balloon floats.
There were a lot of trees around and naturally the balloon wasn’t going to float to a convenient opening for me so I tried to stick it down in a small gap. Needless to say my first ever attempted balloon landing ended with one fatality. Presumably next time I won’t be able to do any worse.
Amongst all of the bugs there’s fun to be had for sure.
Is that the sun setting in the middle of the city?
Scenery update:
A very large pin!
Slowly working on establishing my second company, to fly some VIP charters. Unfortunately, I started it on Hawaii, thinking I’d get some nice charters there. But there are no missions generated on Hawaii, so now I have to save up 100K or so to have the plane transferred to the mainland so I can actually fly it…
Meanwhile, my freight company in Europe is doing great, opening up parts of Norway and making enough money to cover the costs of the new startup.
Today I have been everywhere, flying absolutely anything, and everything I can get my hands on with FS2024 ! Christmas has come early ! Yeee-hah !!

This shrine is so famous that it’s responsible for the name of the island on which it sits. While it’s formally known as Itsukushima Shrine, many refer to this site as Miyajima (Shrine Island in Japanese). When you see it, you’ll have no questions as to the reason behind this shrine’s fame; it was built to look like the shrine, and its torii gate, is floating on water.
The site on which the shrine was built has a long and celebrated history within the world of Shinto spirituality. The highest peak of the island, Mount Misen, was recognized by local people back in the sixth century as a source of power. Today the complex includes a prayer hall, the main hall, and a noh theater stage.
