How do you get the weather effects to look that good? What settings?
hodihoho! Took the ORBX santa rig around Nippon - Nagoya, Kyoto - and Hong Kong. Fun, but could not get Tokyo to start up no matter what I did. Turned off all kinds of scenery, but found out when I turned off the Santa rig, things were fine. Cute; got me into the holiday spirt (spelling intentional).
I just picked the preset “storm” with ultra settings at 4k resolution.
Snagged a sleigh and some reindeer
I got a workout at a new favorite airport — BIAR / Akureyri, Iceland. It sits in a fjord, surrounded by mountainous terrain and features a steep 5.3° ILS approach to runway 01. The island in general is freckled with NDBs and the ILS RWY 01 procedure has a really interesting missed approach procedure that incorporates 3 NDBs and one VOR. In ongoing experiments to see how far I can take the PMGD 737-800 without using LNAV, I practiced that missed approach a few times today. Looking forward to going after it with the BAE 146.

Went on with my Albatros world tour from Guerrero ■■■■■ (MMGR) to La Paz (MMLP).
I got assigned Visual 36 approach, but as usual I got a vector: “Turn right heading 245” and was kept on it indefinitely. In the end I cancelled IFR and landed VFR. As it is a recurring problem with visual approached, I really start to wonder what am I doing wrong. ILS approaches work pretty well.
Then to top things up an airplane spawnded on the runway just as I was pretty much comitted to land. I might have been able to go around, but by this time I was so annoyed with the unsuccesful IFR approach, that I decided immersion is already killed, so I just ignored it and landed anyway.

Found some massive meteor impact craters…
Tenoumer Crater, Mauritania
Wolfe Creek Crater, Australia
Pingualuit Crater, Quebec, Canada
Gosses Bluff Crater, Northern Territory, Australia
Kaali Crater, Estonia, due to dense vegetation the crater can only be located because of the light-coloured vegetation compared to the surroundings (bottom middle of the photo)
A post was split to a new topic: Trying to master all landing challenges

I did some volcano sightseeing in Chile. SCZB SCGE
But it was very windy and turbulent. So I had to fly slowly. Also my passengers got sick. So I have to get the aircraft cleaned. At least there is time for that. I am going out of town for few days, so no flying for few days.
Okay I’ll be careful next time.
