What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 3)

VR LIML - LFMD along the Italian / French Riviera’s. Planning to continue the journey all the way down the coast of Spain to Gibraltar, over the next couple of nights.

Leg 27 of my world flight. Today, Kolhapur (VAKP) to Bangalore (VOBG). In hindsight, it was not a good idea to fly over India during the monsoon season, unless you like looking at lots & lots of clouds!

Departing Kolhapur. I was planning to vary the aircraft I use during my world flight, but have been staying with the albatross for a while now:

Sandwiched at 16,000 ft between two cloud layers. The upper layer is visually not too good (Volumetric Clouds = Ultra):

I took this screenshot, peeking through the clouds, to show the terrain 16,000-odd feet below. I’m not seeing any blurriness in my flights:

Overflying Bangalore:

By the time I’ve lined up for a landing on rwy 27, the airport was enveloped in fog. The red PAPI lights are not very bright:

The whites are better:

Roll-out. No stutters or blurry runway:

Hmm - where do I go from here?

My last flight on Saturday was from St Athan to Swansea. Was hoping to add more before posting but not had a chance to get on.

Flying past Porthcawl on the South coast of Wales.

Landed at Swansea Airport. Next up will be flying from here to Pembrey, then onto the West coast of Wales before flying over to Ireland.

So here I was, basically “taking delivery” of an A359 from Toulouse to Helsinki. Which, in line with the previous flights in SU3 Beta on Xbox Series X,
have been a bit of a stuttery nuisance on ground (thanks, static aircraft!) but otherwise pleasant - the plane is a joy to operate.

Here we are, on final approach into EFHK.

But then I thought to myself: “I know that’s crazy and impossible given the current state of the Sim, but… What if I continue in the same session and send the A350 to Singapore after a turnaround?”

Got the flight set up on Simbrief, loaded up the plane, off I went.

" To boldly go where no Xbox has gone before"

Or so I thought.

Sadly the aircraft suffered a WASM crash at RIKAD, some 150 miles southwest of Kabul. After 5½ hours of flight and in what must’ve been a 13hrs long session by then. Godspeed, rolling cache and VRAM. I’d have to tackle this another time.

Which I immediately did the following day.

No time to lose like in Toulouse, I’m too loose.

So after a beautiful sunset over the Black Sea…

…a calm night over Baku…

…sunrise over the eastern Indian coast after passing huge local thunderstorms…

…and a smooth descent over Malaysia, it was time for the homerun.

12 hours and 25 minutes after takeoff roll at Vantaa airport, I managed to somewhat smoothly land the A350 at Changi amid frequent stutters and pauses. Annoying, but I made it - a new record real-time nonstop flight for me!

Unfortunately, neither did the in-game logbook log the flight (didn’t log a single flight for a week now, huh!?), nor did the Xbox save any screenshots I took after the one shown above at short final. What a letdown.

The only things left to prove the flight times are the planned simbrief times and my word that you have to take for it - plus two minutes on planned block, plus four minutes on planned flight.

Longer trip today with an early start from home (EGCL FENLAND).

Headed North along the Lincolnshire coast and diverted to the superb cafe at Sherburn-in-Elmet (EGCJ) for a tasty lunch.

After lunch the wind picked up from the west, headed off into the wind with a scenic jaunt over the Yorkshire Dales before the weather started to take a turn and the clouds closed in, after a drop in altitude to avoid zero visibility along the western edge of the Pennines I decided seek shelter and a strong coffee at the Carlisle Aero Club (EGNC)

Hopefully the weather will clear so i can push on towards Prestwick before night falls.

Back in the Lancaster, thought I’d fly a short leg Frankfurt to the Mohne Dam …. daylight! and flying as low as I could.

The ‘run in’ is shown on the map below, which is the real run in used :

So you have 1 mile to get your altitude down to 60’ above the water (the land is a slight hill) at 235 mph - 15 seconds in the dark!! Wow.

The 2 towers come up on you SO fast :

Then they’re gone, and you’ve passed them.

They apparently flew the 375 mile leg at treetop level to avoid detection …. in the dark.
And no GPS!!
Hats off to that skill level.

(80 miles ish; I flew the magenta line I’m afraid)

2020, training flight around the Lorraine region. Spots of rain, good weather otherwise. I have the worst time, even with controller settings adjusted and trim settings, especially in takeoff. More training needed.

First flight in SU3 v1.5.21.0: Captain Mateo Capinpin (RPSP) to Corregidor (RPLX)

Framerates on initial load are in the same ballpark as recent builds:

Heading to Manila:

Approaching Ninoy Aquino Intl (RPLL):

I’m not planning to land - just fly ~100 ft AGL along the runway & around the terminal. No blurries or stuttering so far:

Approaching Corregidor:

Bit of a crosswind, so crabbing in. Also helps to avoid the trees at the end of the runway:

Safely parked. Nice view through the trees too:

What happened on your landing? I’ve been bouncing my Citation X a bit myself!

I either flare to much and float or not enough and plant it.

Oranjestad, Caribbean Netherlands

Oranjestad is a small town of 1,038 inhabitants; it is the capital and largest town of the island of Sint Eustatius in the Caribbean Netherlands. It is not to be confused with the far larger Oranjestad in Aruba.
