What do you do with fighter aircrafts on this sim?

Simulating a cargo, passenger flight, bush flight, etc… is pretty straight forward, but now that fighter airplanes have caught my interest, I want to know what do you do on this sim with them
I tried war thunder but it feels off with my joystick, DCS world just crashed without even running on my pc and I just didn’t want to troubleshoot another sim on top of what I do with msfs2024.
I’m the kind of person that needs clear instructions, so I’ve been enjoying the campaign mode a lot, and also the challenges with the f-18. But other than that I kind of feel lost when using fighter planes on msfs.

Imagine youre a fighter pilot and have to do a looooooooooooooot of training training snd more training without any weapons

Or a testpilot for the manufacturer

Or a member of an demo or aerobatic squad

Makes sense! I’ll try to learn some stunts.
Thanks!

about the best you can do is patrol or training missions. Of course, bombers can fly over a target, but drop no ordinance. Make sure you avoid any cultural issues - I flew a zero over Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 and the post was not allowed. If you buy from the marketplace, your aircraft will not be allowed to show ordinance, but if you buy directly from the maker, you can get the ordinance with it. Jets at least give some thrills as folks do the loops in the western US and Wales.

Best to stick to the combat sims as that is what they were made for.

I see if I can get DCS to work. In the meantime I’ll practice maneuvers on msfs2024.
Thank you!

You can also try low level flying. That’s really fun when you find a good location. Or try to learn high alpha flying.

I’ve seen a couple of videos about the “Match loop” in the UK. I’ll give it a try.

Yeah but dont forget they sre completly different. What you can do in MSFS 2024 dont have to be possible in DSC

Flying Spitfire and Bf109 in this game is about to survive take-offs and landings. I’ve been playing WW2 sims since Aces of the Pacific and never had so many problems with flying Bf109 that I have in this game.

Also finding my way to destination airport without GPS and radio navigations is another challenge.

There are as many things to with fighters as with any other aircraft type. There are many many Milsim groups catering for every aircraft from every airforce ftom every era, myself I teach the art of air to air combat over at the DCDFWS (Official DCDesigns Fighter Weapons School) aka, TopFun. When it comes to military/Fighter aircraft the sky is not the limit.

I just fly them like any other plane, but I’m picky about what fighters I buy for a civilian sim. Mostly, I buy things that are just historically interesting or have interesting designs such as the Starfighter. I’m less interested in aircraft where the main draw is the weapons management. Of the jets I own, nearly all of them are vintage or trainers, because MSFS is just the wrong sim for addons where weapons should be the focus.

Oh yeah, I saw that. Looks cool, but I can’t tell how in-depth the weapons management will be. If they pull it off, awesome. Otherwise it wouldn’t be the first addon to have simulated weapons that don’t do anything beyond create a cool effect. Regardless, though, there’s nothing real to shoot at. I’ll still always go to DCS for that need.

Do they have real weather and adaptive atmospherics over in DCS land yet? How’s the fog?

The server I play on uses real weather. It even has an ATIS you can tune to for each airport.

There is a mod for live weather but i’m not sure how good it is.

Clouds look fantastic

Fog is thicc

Otherwise weather is fairly preprogrammed iirc. Your plane performance is certainly affected by what map you’re on. For example Helicopters can struggle in the mountains on the Caucuses map.

Much like I’m into MSFS for civilian simulation, I’m into DCS for weapons, not really too worried about the weather on that one. Separation of concerns, but I think they’ve been slowly improving the weather.

As many of us already explained above, there are no weapons or weapon-related systems in MSFS unfortunately.

Despite the lack of these features, there are still many ways to enjoy flying a military aircraft. The main one, for me, is purely enjoying the flight model by doing VFR, ferry or patrol flights anywhere in the world. This also allows you to enjoy your aircraft from a purely aesthetic point of view, for the beauty of the plane itself, or for the joy of re-creating some movie scene or war scene as seen on TV news etc… This is even more enjoyable if you can plan some multiplayer flights with your friends. Then you can add on top formation flights

In addition, you can also practice the aerial refueling in quite a realistic way using some payware addon called AirShow Assistant. It’s really challenging and entertaining. Also another company is planning to release a similar product… Maybe Miltech, if I’m not mistaken.

There are a few military bases which are quite enjoyable to start from or land at, even in freeware. Right now I have only a few of them, like EGUL Lakenheath in England, and Bardufoss and Bodo in Norway. I also have a few payware ones included in some scenery package for France. I really enjoy flying from one to another. The cold&dark starts in front or inside a bunker is adding a lot to the immersion

EDIT: silly me, I forgot to mention the aircraft carriers… if you use some navy-style military plane, there are quite a few addons for adding aircraft carriers around the globe, payware and freeware.

Yes there are weapons and weapons systems, not as in depth as other aircraft games but they are available

Thank you! Where or how can I join those groups? And do you do all the air to air combat stuff in msfs?
