What do you fly the most?

CRJ700, Arrow and FBW A320. sometimes the H135 and 208 caravan with mod.

I like the DA40 TDI, but I never used it extensively because the fuel transfer between the tanks didn’t work (or at an extremely low rate), causing severe imbalances after 20-30 minutes of flight. Did they fix this? Or what’s your workaround?

there’s really great mod for it on flightsim.to, I’m pretty sure it fixes the problem (plus adds a sprinkle of awesomeness)

https://flightsim.to/file/2738/da40-ngx-project

Hmm I do not experiance alot of an inbalance. Do you mean an inbalance along the roll axis?

That’s for the DA40 NG which doesn’t have the bug with the fuel transfer. (The DA40 TDI is a different model. It’s also a premium plane, making it difficult to mod because the aircraft.cfg is encrypted.)

The DA40s draw fuel from the left tank only, leaving the right tank to stay full. Every few minutes you’re supposed to hit the “fuel transfer” button to activate the pump that moves fuel from the right to the left tank to keep them balanced, otherwise you should see some roll towards the right as the left side gets lighter and the right side stays the same.

At the release of the sim, the DA40 NG’s fuel transfer worked but the DA40 TDI’s did not, meaning you became progressively unbalanced over the course of your flight.

As far as I know this bug has never been fixed.

If you use infinite fuel you might not notice this; also if you fly most of the flight on autopilot you might not notice.

I always drain the left tank until I got the low fuel warning, than i switch on fuel transfer (to work properly I also have to switch the fuelselector) and then drain the other tank.

I always wondered why I do NOT experienced any unbalanced flight behavior, because this is what should happen if you drain 50L of fuel in one side…

Yes the problem is that the DA40 TDI is a premium aircraft → we need to get a fix from Asobo.

I‘ll try to evaluate more with my next flight an I try to reproduce the unbalance … I‘ll also write a Zen ticket - I think the more report the error we likely get a fix … hopefully…

If you’re on autopilot, the autopilot will be compensating for the roll. Are you on autopilot or flying manually through the whole cruise?

No not on autopilot, the da 40 [edit] TDI [\edit] doesn’t have such a fancy thing

I am also flying with all support functions turned off - I am RL GA/glider pilot …

Thanks! I know the mod for the default DA40, and I have it installed. However, I was speaking of the DA40 TDI from the Premium or Deluxe content - I like the fact that it’s mostly steam gauges in the cockpit, but due to the issues with the fuel transfer it’s no fun flying it by hand. It may not be severe to some, but after a while I have to constantly push the joystick to the side to keep her flying straight.

Yep, the roll axis. I think @Vibstronium explained the issue quite well, the DA40 doesn’t have a fuel switch, it always takes the fuel from the left side. In the default DA40 there’s no issue with this, as the fuel transfer works as intended, in the TDI version I’m not even sure it has any effect. As this is a premium plane, there’s no way for add-on developers to fix it.

It may not be severe to you, but when hand-flying it, I have to constantly push the joystick to one side to keep it straight after about 20 minutes of flight.

Ok, I had a go now with the DA40 TDI, and yes in fact the aircraft is getting out of balance, however way to subtle I think (I haven’t flown a DA40 in RL though, this is just my feeling). Due to this subtle effect, I think I corrected the inbalance subconscious, it needs very very little input on my high res flightstick - I think this was the reason I never noticed the effect.

But all in all, the fuel system is not correct. Another thing is, that when I switch on the fuel transfer, it will only work if I also switch the fuel selector to emergance fuel transfer. Again, lacking the RL experience of a DA40 (the planes I fly do not habe a motor at all, or just one fuel source with no need to switch between tanks), but this seems not right to me …

Anyway, I do like the DA40 TDI very much, so I hope we will get an update any time soon … keep fingers crossed …

Let’s put a link

There’s also a great video review on Youtube.. this guy knows a lot..

Mostly the Warrior and the P149

At the next tier
Corsair, L-19, ST-A, C170, Stearman, Nieuport, Spitfire, and P-40, and Goose.

Occasionally I’ll break out a C172 Classic or Cirrus, as well as the JF Arrow and Mooney.

It’s been a long time since the Mooney has worked, though, so that’s put away for the time being.

I’ve set it up.. G3000 too.

My TBM-930 looks like below now.. it took at least 15 seconds to load ! On the startup, screens are black at first.. I went external camera, looked around a bit, went back into the cockpit and see this

Good plane, but It should have an option for Steam Gauges.
Think they got lazy on that one.

the TBM 930 is an amazing plane, with the improvement mod and the updated G3000. Just amazing realism. I was afraid to fly the bigger aircraft, mainly sticking withe the C 152 and 172’s, and other small GA aircraft. But this TBM is not that difficult, with a little Youtube instruction, the avionics are pretty easy. I think easier than the G1000 in many aircraft. The buttons are larger and more self explanatory. If you want to go up high and fast, you can with ease. If you want to stay lower and enjoy the scenery, just pull the throttle way back, and i mean like no more than 35%. This thing is powerful.

Just an amazing job that they did with the mods for this SIm aircraft.

I would also like a steam gauge version for the occasional bush trip. However the G1000 is actually pretty neat now with the NXi mod and when I do IFR flying with flight plans I prefer the big screens to the small GNS430.

Absolute favorite plane is the Grand Caravan. I do a lot of back country flying in it and lots of real world FedEx routes using Flight Aware

Next is the C172G1000 and the Carbon Cub. Nice to do local flights in those.

Very rarely I use the TBM or the Longitude but I find high alt flight very boring. But I keep flights in those planes to under 45mins so they are tolerable!

I gravitate toward the more immersive aircraft with the most switches to flip, knobs to turn and buttons to push. Love the whole process of going from cold & dark and following the procedures & flight plans through departure to final approach and engine shutdown. I’m usually flying in and out of KSEA (or other parts of the world when the sun goes down here) on one of these:

  • CRj-700
  • FBW A320
  • Working Title CJ4

Plus like to stay frosty with basic flying skills on some GA aircraft along with tinkering with the Working Title G1000 NXi

  • Cessna 172
  • Beechcraft Bonanza G36

In general I’ve found that keeping some variety of aircraft in the hanger and not getting too tied to one useful since some get grounded for a sim (or aircraft) update or two due to incompatibilities/regressions (aka bugs)
