What do you miss?

What do you miss the most from your previous flight simulator?

Good question. I miss the camera views of X-Plane and the fact that I didn’t have to deal with the increment to 1000 issue on my multi-panel. I miss being able to click on the GPS or the G1000 and have it pop out to make it easier to see. I miss not seeing “inop” on so many switches!

I miss nothing…as MSFS isn’t my primary go to sim yet. Enjoyment doesn’t have an expiration date.
No one is forced to miss anything …choosing to delete all prior sims, to be dissatisfied and emotionally roller coastered with MSFS is your own self inflicted misery.

I don’t miss anything in the intended sense, as this is my first foray into civilian flight sim. Until MSFS, I’ve always found civilian flight sims rather boring. I don’t really care for high altitude airliner flights. And VFR flight on other sims was a boring trip across generic landscapes and textures devoid of any real landmarks unless you were in one of the modeled areas or had hundreds of dollars invested in 3rd party scenery.

MSFS really sucked me in. Finally I had what was as close to the real world to fly it as you can possibly get. And despite its many issues when it comes to graphics, it still has me in awe at times. Finally I had a flight sim where I could “see the world”, so to speak. It was glorious in so many ways.

But it didn’t take me very long to notice a lot of stuff in MSFS was missing, and then finding out that this missing stuff is considered basic features in other simes, including sims as far back as the 90s, was a little disconcerting. And the deeper I delve into it setting myself up for a fixed home cockpit, the more I’m seeing how far it still has to go to make that a reality.

So I don’t miss anything based on nostalgia of past sims. I miss things based on present need.

I’m waiting for the PMDG products. I really miss my 737

I miss the de Havilland Beaver, the Icon A5 is kinda boring to fly. And helicopters of course, they’ll come some time. The picture in picture views were cool in FSX, but atm FS2020 can’t even deal with the primary screen :joy:

Also the primary info unobtrusively at the top of the screen (F3) were much nicer to take screenshots with, although the drone came has taken over screenshot duties.

And water effects

At least FS2020 got the fps matched and same rounded mountains :stuck_out_tongue:

Not having to pay extra for a C172 that doesn’t have all that new fangled electronic felgacarb…

my experience is switching from FSX to XP10 the out of the box XP default AC where below my standards then I deleted XP10 went back to FSX on the XP forum they said you need a good payware AC bought the FF767 love XP deleted FSX went to MSFS and once again deleted MSFS because of the problems with the default AC currently using XP11 doing a flight right now in fact this addiction to flight simulators is crazy I will try MSFS again but I will give it another year so they can iron out the problems :joy:

Since my only previous playing of Flight Simulator was one I tried on an IBM PC in the early 1980s, I’m pretty amazed with MSFS 2020.

That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been frustrated at times loading it and experiencing a few glitches. But, in my decades of using computers, (punch card programing being the earliest) little has ever worked as hoped.

What I miss is a 737 and the ability to set visibility

Nothing, mainly because I still have my previous flight sim and still use it and still keep finding new stuff to use with it, X-plane BTW, just added the Zivko Edge 540 freeware plane and in VR it’s fantastic, it’s not in MFFS but that don’t matter cus I didn’t delete X-Plane, why would I?

Both sims have their use and both are great in different ways.

The B737 and replay function are what I miss along with all my FSX addons. However MSFS more than makes up for it in many other ways and is the simulator I dreamt that we would have 30 years ago.

I miss the Zibo 737 and FF 767. I always gravitated towards Boeing. And autopilots that worked although I don’t mind doing a little xtra management. I don’t miss the endless modding and Ortho though good lord that was a lot of work and space.

The FSX missions. They were so enjoyable. FSX launched with over 50 then added another 30 a year later with the acceleration dlc. Virtually every mission had detailed story dialogue & sometimes unique/fun easter eggs.

Missions ranged from transporting workers to Area 51, air racing, helicopter rescues, airline emergencies, performing at an airshow, helicopter sling transporting, aircraft carrier training, seaplane transporting around the Amazon & Seattle, helicopter patrolling an animal safari, coastguard hunting, NASA space shuttle air defence, oil rig recue etc. The list goes on & on.

They were extremely enjoyable & offered a great reason to keep coming back to FSX. Putting you in places, situations & aircraft you might not have been familiar with.

Sadly MSFS currently lacks the variety in aircraft needed to do something similar. I feel like if we do get missions, they’re a long way off.

I made these at launch & posted them on the subreddit hoping Asobo might see them. They got thousands of upvotes & LevelCapGaming on youtube featured them in his Flight Sim review to almost 600k people, so hopefully Asobo are aware of the desire for them.
