Curious about what goes inside other people’s heads ![]()
Real world routes and realism with the procedures ![]()
Nothing, I don’t get the concept of watching someone else play a game.
There is an analogy I could use, it would most likely get me banned from here.
Each to their own though.
Well, there you have it ![]()
If you were watching someone using a Flight Simulator, you would most likely, learn a lot .
Really? Have you not seen YouTube.
I’m out, go start a fight with somebody else, that’s definitely your style on here.
Why do people watch sportsball? Watching game = watching game.
It is, or at least can be, quite different from watching someone stream an action game.
You can learn to use a plane and it’s systems from a good MSFS video. You can learn new flight routes.
Like cooking, reading about it only teaches so much but if you watch someone do it you can learn more and learn quickly.
This is also why folks get their pilot training IRL from people along with books.
The only aviation gamer I watch stream is AirForceProud when hes messing about. I find the other “serious” tubeliner stuff too boring.
But one thing I would look out for with any streamer (no matter what the game genre is) is their interaction with the chat. Its great when they are heavily engaged both in the game and answering chat questions. So I would say its subscriber interaction thats a great quality.
I have a few I always watch. for me its the guys flying the airliners and their configurations from cold and dark and simbrief and navigraph plus occasionally vatsim. the narrative is always important to me informative friendly chatty tips and tricks, I find it quite relaxing and inspiring to watch and tempts me to really get into study level simming.
Now you have caught my interest! You don’t understand the concept of watching streams? But you’re watching youtube videos? Did I understand you correctly?
And for the question at hand: I do watch MSFS streams, pretty much while flying myself. Sometimes it’s for having someone to fly along with, and sometimes I watch non-live streams on youtube as instructional videos on navigation, history and tons of other stuff.
It really comes down to what I feel like doing at any given time.
Never watched any, if I have spare time I fly FS2020. ![]()

Got to agree with you, I’ll watch YouTube for reviews of things I’ve got my eye on but that’s it.
The single time I’ve watched a stream was AusFlightSimmer looking at the UK world update when I was still waiting on the xbox release.
As a grumpy wee Scotsman, I got so offended when he mistook Eilean Donan castle for Balmoral “where the Queen lives”, that I had to turn him off…![]()
…to be fair to the guy my Australian geography knowledge is probably worse.
Mostly, I don’t have to go through the hassle of long waiting times, remembering buttons, procedures, setting up the game, surviving a few crashes and restarts product of missed procedures or forgotten buttons. :![]()
So, I feel relieved watching them
Well for once I agree with you.
Main things that will keep me coming back to a streamer are an entertaining personality, someone that flies a variety of different planes (I don’t tend to watch the jetliner only streams), a tendency to use at least somewhat realistic procedures, and a good chat - since chatting with like minded people is a lot of the fun of watching a streamer. If I learn something too that’s great.
Streamers I will watch semi-regularly:
TheFlyingFabio
Con7inuum
Fliggity
SimCesar
I like streamers who are personable, reasonably competent in flying realistically and invite watchers to participate in the multiplayer flight they are streaming. It’s the most social I have been in my otherwise introverted life ![]()
I like the same streamers you do @bdshort550 plus TomosWorld.
I like this streamers’ videos…
When I’m in my home office doing something, and I’m tired of listening to music, I’ll put on a flight simmer streamer instead. Not to learn anything at this point, just for the entertainment, and sometimes to participate in the chat if it’s interesting.
I assume that‘s irony?
