Good question.
Until I can get more flying time from less “fixing /fiddling” time (about one hr flying and three hours fiddling} on my pc based system. I find I’m looking for other entertainment these days.
Xbox users might be laughing at me but unless we use Xbox or a very basic pc setup, this sim can have far too much complication and inter-dependence on hardware and software components, compared to the previous ones. Even in XBox there must be a lot of scope for interdependence issues.
This is an open-ended list for a satisfying pc system:
On the software side, we have Windows itself and the hardware setup of the pc being used. Then there is MSFS itself, the SDK, FSUIPC, Simconnect, widows drivers for all the controls, Air Manager, Popout Panel Manager, TrackIR, Voice Attack, NVidia or AMD drivers and utilities, Flow, Addons Manager, LittleNavMap or Plan-G, and MSFS updates for all the addon aircraft and scenery - just off the top of my head.
On the hardware side, we have the pc itelf, monitor(s), yoke and pedals, other controls like Saitex panels and knobsters, headset, power supplies, cable management, usb connections and power, maybe a kvm switch, and so on.
It would be interesting to hear what is the experience of others. How many hours do you spend on fixing/fiddling for every hour of trouble-free flying?
