What is the Best new computer build for MSFS to run in 4k...Intel..AMD

What would be the ideal system to run MSFS in 4k, smoothly, if money was no object and you had future expansion ability a few years down the road? Just curious.

7950X3D with a 4090

Or, when available, 7800X3D with 4090

Why does AMD seem to be better than Intel? I ask because I don’t know.

Because MSFS just loves that v3d cache.

the 7950X3D should be better in MSFS especially when using external programs for traffic, ATC etc.

hello sainted…
I just purchased a upgradeable Corsair Vengeance i7400. Basically a 13900k i9 and 4090. I need the integrated graphics as I run a 5 monitor system with 3 wide 32" LG Nano monitors in 1440p and 2 ASUS 21.5’ touchscreens for AirManager/Knobster. I fly the Longitude on VATSIM and the G5000, AFCS and GTC’s fit nicely on touchscreens with Pop out manager. No mice in my cockpit. Ha! I recommend multi-mon vs VR because VR does not work for me with IFR flying. The controllers are just too awkward. Maybe someday with Video passthru or something. No offense to VR folks.
Anyways
I run TAA, DX12 beta, and Ultra default and everything is pretty smooth and amazing, even at heavy airports. I am RW pilot and IGI. My focus is on instrument training but I still support gamers etc. Welcome to the life long learning world of aviation.
IMO opinion 1 4k tv is ok, I have done this before with a 60", looks nice, with track ir. But note, the screen is large, but still is 16x9 form factor. I find 32" x3 in 1440p to be a vast improvement over 1 4k. 3 wide allows one to look down both wings, without track ir or view change, which is basically the same as real cockpit. The following pics are pretty bad. It is hard to depict visuals from a camera. the best immersion POV is from chair. This is an old pic I now have an extra touchscreen.
take care

Bingo. I know the original stipulation was if money was no object, but it always is. So you have to ask yourself if the 7950x3d is worth the extra $250 msrp for no guarantee of noticeable improvement over the 7800x3d.

No guarantee, no. But I expect most of the benchmarks listed above were done without any external gadgets or programs running in the background. Nevertheless several of those benchmarks give the 7950X3D a little headway over the 7800X3D.
Currently I have the 7900X3D and when I use FSLTL, GAIST, FS Kneeboard and FlyInside Heli Manager, I can clearly see how the six parked cores come to life. I would expect that with a 5800X3D this would all have to be distributed to the 8 cores.

So my expectations are:

  • if your’re using external addons and plugins => take the 7950X3D if you can afford it.
  • otherwise the 7800X3D should be more than adequate.

Today I finally snatched a 7950X3D. Let’s hope it’s really in stock  But I’ve bought from them before, so I’m in good spirits.

Thanks for all the feedback. This is the system I am considering. I already have two monitors one LG 4K which is excellent and the other is a Dell i use as a second monitor for Simbrief, Vatspy, etc…

Should be a screaming system. The motherboard is overkill for my uses, but it should work and last you a long time.

And he has a lot of RGB, so it’s even 15% quicker

I personally went for the 7900X3D, because of the upsale on the 7950X3D. In hindsight, that was the wrong kind of money saving.

My MicroCenter PowerSpec 434 purchased 3 years ago (I7 9700k RTX 2070 Super DDR4 2133 32>64 GB NVMe 1 TB) STILL has great performance on my ASUS 31.5 inch 4K (60 Hz) with complex scenery highest grade photogrammetry cities at 40 - 60 fps ! (though I am using DLDSR 2.25 and DLSS Quality and most settings ULTRA and my TLOD is less than 100) - not really sure why people are thinking they have to upgrade to such a high level … ?

Interestingly now, the new City Updates VIII of Las Vegas and Flightsim.to’s London and Rome with trees removed, have fps’s below 40 …

For the majority, it is not reasonable to build the “best” system for FS 2020. A “very good” system, like mine, is much cheaper. We don’t know the needs of the questioner (2d 3d?) nor his level of knowledge. But it will be mainly the latter that will have to decide.
For 2D, for a monitor, such a system is a waste of money.

Agreed! Running a 9700K @ 2K resolution with 16 GB ran and SSD. My system runs just fine. My experience is smooth. I don’t care if I get a random stutter for a second once every 10 sessions. Waiting until 2024 is out and a few other HW updates are available le before upgrading again. Happy flying everyone!
