What plane to pick to Lukla

“or” could also be read as “also known as”. Therefore I just wanted to be sure.

I love flying into Lukla in the sim. There’s some great footage here of someone flying a smaller Pac 750 into Lukla to deliver supplies. Lukla landing - cockpit view - YouTube

Can’t wait to fly into Lukla with the Twin Otter when its released.

Has anyone ever experienced any live traffic at Lukla in the sim? I know planes at only take off and land during a relatively small window in the morning at Lukla.

This has nothing to do with the sim, but you might find it interesting. In 2000, we flew from Kathmandu to Lukla in a STOL. Don’t remember the make and model. The runway was not paved then. They could unload and load 19 passengers and their luggage in 15 minutes and be back on the way to Kathmandu. When we got back I checked in with the local FBO and had them look up the airport in the International database. Runway length: Unknown. Weather station: Kathmandu.

Highjacking this: Does anyone know where to find the exact route that the Tara or Sita Air planes take there from Kathmandu? Where excatly do they enter the Dudh Koshi valley?

I’ve taken the KingAir there. It worked pretty well.

Yeah the turn around looks really click. As demonstrated by this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Grx5ZiT8qk

Yup the KingAir works pretty well. I’m not sure you can reverse pitch with the KingAir in the sim but it brakes pretty well anyway.
People do land smaller GA planes at Lukla for supply drop offs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tC1h1ZCuV0 Incidentally that clip has some useful real world VFR tips for how to approach the airport.

Will try the kingair again after SU6. But i couldn’t climb above 10000ft, so couldn’t pass over the mountains. Don’t know why exactly, i know live weather (and winds) was on, so perhaps that was the issue, although it seemd rather sunny…

As stated somewhere above. I also do not know the precise route the planes take, i do know it’s not just up and over the mountains, but somewhere east (or south) of the field they turn into the valley and make a right turn for the final approach.

Watch that second You tube clip I linked to above. It shows the approach route. If you’re approaching you come in high to the South. This gives clearance to aircraft departing Lukla who go low to the South down the valley before climbing.

Incidentally I’ve pretty much finished a little mod that adds a bit of airport life to Lukla. Just to make it a bit more alive and busy. I’ll get it finished and release it on flightsim.to for the Twin Otter coming out.

That looks great @Mobias7 !! Can’t wait to download that!

Once I find time to study how to do that, I probably try to replace some of the autogen building in the area with those buildings from the default Lukla scenery. I think it would make the towns like Namche Bazaar look a lot more realistic and athmospheric.

Yup dead easy to do that. You should give it a go. Its good fun and really not difficult at all.
