What tutorials to use after finishing beginner lessons 1-8? VFR missions?

I’m up to beginner lesson number 8 but I am still very raw. Would FSAcademy VFR missions be the next step? Also is there a tutorial for a modern autopilot system like the Garmin g1000 or do you just have to read and watch videos? Also I only bought the base game so do I even have planes with the g1000? Do I have to buy dlc? Thanks!

YouTube is your friend. You’ll find a ton of great resources there, including some great tutorials.

I’d like to use some interactive tutorials since it’s more fun that way. The FS Academy VFR missions will probably be my next step. But I don’t know if there is something similar for using the Garmin G1000,

There’s nothing intereactive in game that teaches you to use the Garmins. That’s why I was pointing you to those 2 channels. Those will point you as to what to do on the Garmins in certain situations.

For actual flying, buy whatever addons you want. There’s none that I know enough about to recommend. I just know you won’t find Garmin-specific walkthroughs that work in-game.

In addition to Crunch’s tutorial channels, Doofer911 has some great tutorials as well. Mostly for older sims but things like ILS, IFR/VFR stuff is going to be the same regardless.

You may also check the WEH Videos in YouTube for basic navigation, Garmin 530, etc. They are for any sim, great videos , no commercials, and great to listen.

Choose the Cessna 172 G1000.

Find a couple of small fields both in G Airspace about 30 nm apart.

Find the airfields on the web to see their ‘Patterns’. The circuits for landing and ‘Go around’.

Fly between the fields until you are confident controlling the airplane.

Live weather and live traffic.

Use ATC, although the sim might not have ATC at the fields.
On approach, announce you position. Request a full stop landing, get in the pattern and keep announcing your turns. Downwind, crosswind and final.

When you are confident, try a field with ATC.
Don’t request a landing at a field where you don’t know it’s patterns, taxiways and apron parking.

Can I just buy the Cessna 172 with the Garmin G1000 or do I have to upgrade my edition of flight simulator? I don’t think it comes with the standard edition.

Pretty sure it’s with the standard edition? I remember flying with C172 G1000 when I was still with my game pass subscription.

No need to buy it. It is included in the Basic version.

I have both the FSAcademy VFR and IFR courses. The VFR course doesn’t touch on the G1000 at all since it’s a course on visual flight rules, but I highly recommend it if you’re brand new to flying. Very informative if you’re looking to fly MSFS while pretending you know what you’re doing.

I haven’t started the IFR ones to know if they touch on the G1000, but thumbing though the “ground school” manual that comes with each set of courses it looks like it touches on them as far as using them for instrumented nav goes. Autopilot and things of that nature are covered by video tutorials like Squirrel’s.
