Totally true. I always get triggered by these threads and some of the opinions that start appearing in them. I should really learn not to engage. It just fuels the fire.
1: Military aircraft are popular. Developers like to develop what sells well.
2: Military aircraft spend 99% of their operational time just flying around. Weapon firing and even more so combat are a minimal part of what they do. As such, considering DCS’s limited maps that limit the “flying around” aspect, their existence in MSFS is entirely justified and welcome.
Agree with some of your points.
Though I would suggest dropping the “supposedly” epithet because MSFS is an ACTUAL civilian
simulator, in that it is a non-combatant realm.
And quite right too.
Agreed.
Both succinct and to the point.
Although I myself am predisposed to elucidation, I do like a bit of the laconic.
Regards.
Incorrect. Look again at its name. It is flight simulator, not civilian flight simulator. There is no reference whatsoever to what type of aircraft can be featured. There are absolutely no exclusions. Only Microsoft’s PEGI-3 rating prevents the selling of weapons on the Marketplace store, nothing else at all, and weapons systems are within the code-scope of the sim, they just haven’t appeared yet. There is nothing to prevent third-party developers from working on weapons DLC for MSFS and releasing them outside of the marketplace. Nothing.
If that is true [and I have no reason to doubt you] then you are the harbinger of doom [absolutely
no offence intended].
It already happened in FSX ( and by extension, Prepar3D ) with the release of VRS TacPack, a highly detailed weapons add-on. FSX itself was not a weapons platform, but with trackable AI already in the sim and coded radar displays created by third party devs, tracking weapons come to life. Missiles, cannons, chaff and flare were all present, even laser-guided munitions and other more exotic weaponry.
It’s only a matter of time before it comes to MSFS, and with the forthcoming FA/18E and aircraft carrier from Asobo, I’d say it’ll be sooner rather than later
I think some of the people in this thread should have a word with Asobo about how this proposed “Topgun” addon is breaking their own rules about it being a “civilian” sim and how all those fast jets whizzing about will upset all the flow and procedure people.
There are no rules about it being civilian, as it’s not a civilian sim. It’s a flight simulator - not civilian, flight. And gamers can create their own groups, so jets whizzing about doesn’t bother anybody, they can just be blocked out if required. Plus weapons packs would only affect and be seen by others who own them and also have them active. There is no problem with it.
This pic below was posted elsewhere by Mohariz Musa. I love DCS, but when you combine Military aircraft and the graphics/terrain of the entire planet in MSFS you can achieve this. I mean how can you not want every type of aircraft. There is something for everyone in this sim.
This is all, for me and I expect most ‘serious’ simmers [I am choosing my words carefully here]
very bad news indeed.
Things are already - what with all the high speed airspace incursions and ‘buzzing’ that is already
occurring - getting a little ‘hairy’ around here!
Start arming folk and the apocalyptic cat will be let well and truly out of the bag!
Please MSobo, I implore you. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!
Very well said and a great example. MSFS can support military-style systems and the mission builder can support combat scenarios. There is nothing to prevent it being a superb combat platform with the whole world to play in ( not to mention the superior visuals and environmental modeling ).
I mean, is programming an aircraft to fly from point to point with automated approaches really flying anyway?
I quite enjoy flying very low and very fast, e.g. in the Vertigo. The more turboprop or jet trainers the better I say.
You haven’t understood how it works. If you don’t own a copy of the hypothetical weapons pack, you’ll see nothing of it and be affected by none of it. That’s how add-ons work in MSFS.
“I got shot down by a Bonanza again”
That’s great! That’s how you choose to fly and I am all for choice!
I however choose to fly mostly short flights, GA and IFR.
And wish to do so unmolested!
Yeah, seeing tooled-up Cessnas dive-bombing houses would probably be a sight…
Have you tried landing at YBBN lately since Orbx filled the Brisbane River with Redbull air race pontoons ?
Then switch off the multiplayer aspect of AI, that way you’ll only have the real world traffic around you. It’s really quite simple.
I DO understand how THAT works!
Indeed I fully support any facility that allows for anyone’s predilections to be realised.
Just as long as you support MY desire to fly procedurally and in an uninterrupted manner.
