What's wrong with MSFS 2024? Be specific

I think there is nearly no single aicraft/helicopter which we can use “normally”…all of them have basic errors or things that not work properly…and i mean basic things…

It’s useable for many people, but there are a lot of workarounds for the UI, graphics, connectivity, and sim-isms. Experienced simmers might be able to figure them out pretty quickly. Some will be more annoyed than others. This leaves many newbies in the lurch, which is positively heartbreaking.

There’s also a big lack of synchronicity with real-world procedure and airmanship due to so many bugs and misimplementations in the airplanes and airports. We just kind of have to handwaive those things. Again, easier to do the more familiar you are with real-world procedure. But possibly more annoying to some than others. And definitely frustrating for newbies. The irony is once those things get fixed, newbies will have to re-learn all over again from a basis of just what they’ve experienced in the sim (rather than from an aviation-educational foundation).

And third party devs have really been hosed by all of this.

The specifics are too many to post as the bugs crop up in every ( yes EVERY flight) flight in career mode. Are we then expected after every flight to fill in a form and detail the bug after every flight? I am not here to do MSFS’s work and still pay for the pleasure of doing it

Could you provide the GPS coords for those images please, I’d like to take a look for myself and play around with the settings - see if that has any effect.

Models in 24 are still ahem… Bad. Was hoping we could have broadly accurate airliners at airports and GA at smaller fields. And liveries too. What 24 has is bizarre. Lots of 727 and DC10 which are very rare to see anywhere irl. If this gets fixed I will be happier if not happy with 24.

Oh funny, I haven’t seen a 727 or a DC-10! Just a lot of T-38, F-18, and Boeing 757 demonstrators in inappropriate places. Again, if they’re listening, devs need to set exclusion flags for airports/parking spaces. Or let us do it in the World Hub.

Anyone know when 24 will get a big update? Or even when Asobo team are next due to communicate?
Apologies I don’t follow threads in here much.

Firstly I would like to mention that I like the EFB, Cloud texture( when it works), the graphics ( when it works), flying at night is nice.
That is again when it works… it’s very inconsistent. What worked one flight may not work the next.
Issues I have had are.
Atc all over the place.
ai traffic is not great
External aircraft lights are not great
Clouds randomly pixelate
Lod varies from flight to flight
Live weather defaults back to off.
Select tail code does not stick,
Reflections, glare, tint, filters on windshield creating a loss of quality.
Create flight and engine won’t even crank over ( c152). Needing flight restart for it to work,
C152 come to a stop whilst taxiing and turning, get clearance try to move and plane is stuck. Check external and nose wheel is 90 deg.
Internal view camera does not work correctly on some planes saab340 . Ei, look left, does not auto spring back, look right and it flicks to a cargo view or something, need to look forward to go back to cockpit view.
Some lighting is extremely bright or in some case extremely dim in cockpits.
I’ve only done free flight.
Otherwise when all the stars align it does look fantastic and can work well,

Sure.

I redid the test with community folders empty on both sims and Ultra settings, so the trees etc are default.

The funniest is jetways rolling out to gliders at an international airport!

Please, Asobo, fix the ■■■■ stuck at 68% issue. There are multiple posts on this, not just here.
Thanks.

For me it seems to concentrate on different aircraft types by the day. One day I saw DC-10s at every airport I went to, regardless of the airport’s size. Another day it was 727s, and then a few days ago every airport had gliders at the gates. But for me, by far the most common static aircraft to see is the PC-12, and I have no idea why.

And when every gate is occupied and changing the “air traffic quality” setting (or whatever is the one meant to govern that) doesn’t disappear any of those aircraft, it’s pretty annoying! Especially since I try to keep the setting at low but if I forget to check at the beginning of a flight, the sim has invariably changed it back to high/ultra.

In fairness, however, the thread title IS what’s wrong with MSFS. So, therefore, any positive comments are off topic technically.

Among the gliders at terminal jetways, I do enjoy spotting the (slightly) less blatantly out of place as well - an Alaskan Boeing 737 at London City (too big to be there as well), a New Zealand ATR at Brussels, a Spirit A20N at Dubai, an Iberia A20N at Barbados, a row of American Airlines A20Ns at Heraklion, EasyJet and Wizzair A20Ns at Vancouver, the list goes on. Would have thought there might be a little bit of region specific rules but I guess not

The problem with any list of what’s wrong is that we’d probably run up against the maximum character limit for a single post.  Which is both a pity and a disgrace.

I can honestly say that if I had ever cleared for release anything even remotely close to the condition of these simulators, while working for any of my clients, I’d have been fired so fast there’d be a hole in the air!

What’s not broken is a much shorter list!

Check your Terrain Level of Detail settings.

These are FS2024 shots taken minutes apart with the only change being TLOD setting.

TLOD 200

TLOD400

I was just the other day watching a youtube video about learning to fly helicopters where a RL pilot trainer was giving guidance. Based on his comments it flew and behaved pretty much like in real life.

As I mentioned elsewhere the ground textures are the same in FS2020 and FS2024. The difference is how they are affected by TLOD settings, performance hits and the fact that FS2020 seems to apply different sharpening, brightness and contrast settings, as well as colour corrections. Plus someone said that FS2020 also uses something like a film grain filter to the textures (I’m not sure of the latter).

Add to that the present variability of textures being streamed properly and you get the problems I have encountered.

Below is an admittedly rather rushed comparison of FS 2020 and FS 2024 Ultra preset in 2D, both with TLOD 400. Notice the somewhat washed out image in FS 2024, with lower saturation and contrast. Tiny details like the close packed pair of sheep in one paddock blur together in the new sim.

Having said all that, while in 2D I can just get away with TLOD of 400, using a 4090 and a 5800x3D CPU, in VR the performance drop of 30+% for high res headsets such as my Pimax Crystal currently means that going much over TLOD of 100/150 reduces frame rates to unplayable levels even with Medium settings. In FS 2020 I can get over 50fps at high settings at 200 TLOD with sharper ground textures.

On the plus side, VR users can at least adjust contrast, brightness, highlight levels and saturation etc in the excellent Toolkit supplied free by just one guy, Mbucchia, which does help a lot in FS 2024.

FS2020 on the left, 2024 on the right:

this game is so buggy, and can not Remeber last time i had such a bugged simulator. I am a iracing oldtimer and these kind of bug would never been accepted in iracing. Almost every flight i have a freeze or crash.

Never expected this from such a big company

The washed out look really annoys me every time I load into 2024. Everything is just so white. Loaded in at night with the A310 in reasonably clear conditions and could barely see the runway for the extreme white hazy caused by the landing lights - looked as though it should have been heavy fog
