Whats your opinion on MSFS now? Here's mine

Hey guys,
I wanted to ask you how happy you are with the sims development right now.

I apologize in advance for the rant, but my contact with the sim has gone down to once a month
and this time, it just triggered me.

The “trim nose down” assignment just disappears, when I assign it.
The sensitivity curve of one specific axis does not save itself, after I set it up properly
like the other ones.
The A320 still randomly drops down to 1fps straight after loading into the sim. (Default, not FBW)
Look at the thousands of useless sensitivity options to get confused from if you’re new,
it needs 4 at max.
This is how it should look like:
image

This is what we got instead. For the same purpose. ( LT is the one, not working… )

Aerodynamics I won’t touch as a topic because its like in X-Plane.
It depends on how well the aircraft is made. Its gotten better over the months at least.

With the push of a button for throttle control, the throttle still moves a notch at first,
then follows up for the rest of its way up or down instead of instand control for those
precise movements on short final. The Xbox-Players will be super happy about this.
Heres a video. I use (with modifiers) a PS4 controller for all my simming and its working
perfectly, without me having to give up on my precious desk space.
Also: Why does it go straight into reverse thrust instead having at least
a second detent or an actual working TOGGLE button?
Thats fun with a turboprop on short final, the way it is now…

Sounds like a small thing? You notice that problem on every flight.

Mirrored liveries on the 747 and maybe the 787 are STILL a thing after almost a year,
which is a huge no-go in my book.

The default A320 still goes for -6000fpm when descending on Autopilot.

It is these things which make me lose trust in the sim, that promised to make my year-long
dreams come true. Having fun with my friends online in a beautiful and realistic environment.

I have XP11 installed, got over 3000 hours on it - Don’t touch it, because it looks so much
worse than MSFS.
I have MSFS installed, only touch it once a month for my VA flight because every, every time,
even after re-installing properly and tuning Nvidia settings, its a mess most of the time because
all these things up there add up and cut all the fun.

I mostly find myself in DCS because its been the most reliable, good looking, realistic and
interactive sim for me and I hope that MSFS lives up to it because it has the potencial.

I just don’t understand how its gotten that bad this year. I remember liking the Alpha more than twice as much. The sim has all this nice stuff that no other sim has, but those things are still noticable,
I notice I forgot to say that the sim currently ALWAYS resets my custom input profile into the default one.

Sorry for the vibes, I had to do it.
Thanks for reading, I’m interested in what you guys have to say.

Best Regards

I love the sim, especially in VR.
No major issues for me.

Hello,

I’m satisfied with sim for most features but Live weather, Garmins features, FPL management and slew speed are things what I’m not satisfied with still.

Don’t really care much about aircraft issues (I’m not really here for the piloting):

  1. Still massively irritated by the chronic lack of water masks (esp. in SE Asia, Asia, India, Africa, etc)
  2. Coastlines generally need fixing (endless sunken quays, piers, marinas, etc)
  3. Dodgy texture work all over the regions mentioned above, including egregious misalignments, baked-in clouds (extremely tiresome), spikes in the terrain data, and some areas of coastline where all pretense of accuracy has been abandoned in favour miles-long straight lines (say ‘hi’ FSW!).
  4. I won’t touch Photogrammetry - it looks awful anywhere it’s used, to the degree that the AutoGen buildings are far more tolerable.
  5. Traffic on roads still goes waaaay too fast and often - comically - defies the laws of physics. It’s laughable.
  6. Night-lighting still looks underwhelming at best. Just awful.
  7. Flight planning in MSFS 2020 is a joke, with fewer options than FSW had!
  8. The World Map is pointlessly over-designed nonsense. Take it back to 2D, vectorize everything and give us international borders, major cities and towns and let us save our filters!

There is plenty more I could bleat on about. Plenty. But these immediately spring to mind.

MSFS is everything I ever wanted in the simulator, pending the continued planned development roadmap issues. I started on a Commodore 128, but I don’t remember what version it was back then. When FSX Steam was released, I invested in terrain mesh and all of the MegaScenery photo scenery for most of the world. Although the world was still flat, it looked good enough at 5000 feet. I spent more than a few thousand dollars just to see what was suppossed to be there in the world. MSFS provides ALL of that and so much more: buldings, obstacles, and some nice airports for $95.95!!! OMG!!! I am fortunate that I fit the target consumer for this platform perfectly.

However:

  • The Marketplace: I really appreciate having all my mods and addons in a centralized location. Over the years, It became too much of a chore to invest my time keeping track of all of the updates for each developer and webstore where I purchased them from. The Marketplace is ideal for me in concept.
  • The Marketplace: I am still frustrated with the release timing of 3rd party content. However, I believe that initial developer direct releases are actually beta releases called Version 1.0 (Marketing at it’s best). I want to avoid troubleshooting each addon when I buy it (based on experience over the years). I just want to enjoy it and I want it to actually work after I purchase it.
  • The Marketplace: I’ve purchased the majority of the scenery in the Marketplace (I fugure I’d support new developers on this platform for ensured maturity of MSFS). However, I will no longer purchase from any developer on the Marketplace that I did not know existed before this version of MSFS. Each addon you purchase in the Marketplace is like playing russian roulette. It’s buyer beware. Buy one item at a time and test the sim. Too many of the airports crash my sim and waste my time. I want to be able to filter out specific developers from showing up in my Marketplace storefront.

I will never have enough money to travel and see the world from a cockpit in the sky. I may not live long enough to even begin a real adventure in the sky. However, as each day passes with MSFS, I see a new virtual representation of a location that is treasured by a culture other than my own. The platform is still an infant. It has only just started on the road to mature into a stable simulation.

To me, MSFS is a small miracle. It is worth the price of admission.

More should be done to improve the performance of the game for those who fly low, and use the game to tour landmarks and cities close-up. At some point, people will have helicopters. What will the game be like for that consumer base?

The London and Paris photogrammetry are terrible: ugly and resource-intensive. Both remain uninstalled for me. (However, the non-photogrammetry 3D assets for both of those are excellent, stunning at times.)

Steps should be taken to allow optimization choices for those who fly low. Many things to do not finish rendering until the plane is less than 50 feet away. That has to stop. There should be an option to sacrifice far-away items for all buildings directly in front and close to the plane. I have 64G RAM and NVME drives in the PC I built. I use FIOS high-speed for now. I want those to mean something in a game like this.

Also, several cities need to have their photogrammetry replaced by the types of 3D models we see in the UK. Any tower with glass, any amusement ride, any football, baseball, or soccer stadium. Coney Island, NY looks like a toddler clay project at best. So does a Universal park in Florida. The UK soccer stadiums are vastly improved, but Fenway Park (and so many others) look silly or are missing altogether.

Finally, keep developing and selling reduced-footprint planes like the Top Rudder. For the cities / landmarks that had the most effort, there is finally a chance to view the work without having the trip reduced to a slideshow. I think for many people, the defining experiences of the game will begin when they acquire this plane.

Well said sir!

I am using an Early Access game and it will be like that for quite a while to come.

With this mindset, I am ok with it. I believe they will develop this into a finished product, just takes propably two more years.

In the meantime, I found out what works well already in MSFS and I am sticking to that.

YMMV

Love it. The BEST game ever!!! I can travel ANYWHERE in the World , especially with this pandemic going on.

Actually pretty happy with it at the moment. Everything in my flights is without problems apart from some bad calls from atc but that’s about it. Running the hp g2 in vr. Most flights I fly are around 2 hours

I love MSFS, but there are 3 things that are bothering me and should be dealt with:

. The Logbook pop up at the end of flight, I will play FS again more when it’s removed
. Terrible ai traffic (AIG are making an add on for this)
. Poor performance at times, I’m not bothered about this too much as directx12 will come and the A32nx performance will get better over time.

There is also a lack of good airliners but many 3rd parties are making these, so it’s not a huge concern as they will come soon anyway. But generally the sim is great and I think the development is going nicely!

Looks great.
Performs like a hot mess, inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck. One flight I’ve got 40-50 FPS, next flight same airport same area it tanks and I’m flying a slideshow at 10-15 FPS. This just isn’t good enough for a software like this.

Plus all the things that FSX had, that are missing from MSFS. Joke.

Check your task manager to see what is being utilised and from what program. You should not be loosing that much fps from the exact same area.

I’m not happy with it at all. I can write a book about how it performs. I’d rather put my money towards the actual flight schools.

The sim is amazing. Best video game ever made. Verry realistic simulator. I am verry happy.
Verrybstable, No bugs except the speed indicator on the zlin shock ultra.

It’s fine for VFR in GA looks amazing and runs great.
But performance is awful in the airliners even with my system (i7 9700, RTX3070, 32gb RAM) and the default airliners feel like they’re still in beta. too many bugs with IFR.

It’s still just a scenery simulator at the moment, but at least it’s a decent one.

I get this exact same issue, it seems when you fly primetime, FPS suxors (<technical term). On mothers day around dinner time, I was flying the A320 at 38-42 fps, the next morning I could barely maintain 20 and I made no changes on my end whatsoever.

If you fly early morning you’ll find the same thing, as you get closer to the Golden Hour 8:00 am the sim will magically start getting slower and slower.

Do a search on MS Azure servers, and read about the issues involving them. MS has announced that they will be adding up to 50 new servers a year for at least the next 10 years. You have to remember that MSFS isnt the only thing using the servers and / or the bandwidth.

There was also an issue with misconfiguration of Azure itself (happend recently and was reported that this left a number of clients vulnerable to a loss of personal info and data.) This all because of a company monkey that misconfigured a switch.

Since the game relies so much on getting most of its data from the servers, and problems between you and them can result in varied undesired results…

If it’s only about traveling then Google earth is probably a better choose. Much more detail. Especially the VR version is amazing.

sorry for you, its amazing I have a msigaming laptop 2060 16gb ram Fs on SSD and all the rest on d drive. I have had only 1 ctd, since day 1 and I run at 2560 x 1440, most things at high or medium 1 or 2 at ultra. some people with super expensive rigs and specs get really bad performance, I don’t ever check fps, my eyes tell me how its going. don’t get any micro stutters even in Fly Tampa Vegas. except for a few issues like a suspect win 10 update, its just getting better and better. I run skyelite on 2 monitors one for pfd the other for map or flightplan, I use streamdeck and Behringer and my gaming laptop 1400 euros runs my beamer. Im happy, One thing I notice about these forums is that people will jump to making postings about problems and then throw tantrums before doing any investigative work.

, so I occasionally check these forums for news or tips or valid concerns but just ignore the rest
