Whats your opinion on MSFS now? Here's mine

I took this pic flying over NYC. If you call that “a toddler clay project” then I sincerely doubt you will ever be happy, no matter how far the sim advances…

But I have directx12. How come you haven’t got it?

You forgot that this is not a Flight simulator but a Game…

The sim is not on directx12 yet, is it? My directx version is directx12 though.

Tell that to Sportys.com which uses it. It’s a flight simulator not a game if accredited schools use it for training.

In their original release statement Microsoft has said that this simulator must not be used for actual training of pilots. If Sportys.com uses it then it a great mistake, that puts its students in danger…

That I am aware of. Although calling it a flight simulator is awful contradiction. Here’s there youtube channel video with Textron Aviation.

Folks

You are beginning to run off topic here. Please stay on line

Thanks for your understanding

That looks like a website with video stuff, I would not take it too seriously… I feel MSFS is more like the theory part of a driver’s license. This kind of website too… It used to be a book in the past, now it is a simulator at home. But you can’t expect a computer program to teach RL pilots to actually fly. That would be silly. When sportsys com website does pretend that, they are impostors, in for a free ride… and facing painful consequences when anything goes wrong !

This would have to be the easiest thing to fix and the fact that they have not fixed it is ■■■■■■■ in and of itself.

I wonder if a rectangular world map would be handy ? Northern and southern regions will be far off in terms of distance. Not everyone uses autopilot and VATSIM all the time, it’s more difficult to estimate distances. I agree it should be an option. But I would switch that option off.

Still very much love this sim. Play almost exclusively in VR 2 or 3 times a week short GA flights, very immersive. Never really understood this comment above, I know a lot of folks get issues during patch installs, but for me it’s never been an issue, performance has never been a problem as I can get 90Hz/FPS using reprojection, the sim performs great and looks great.

If I was to comment on any issues I have, it would be about the direction the development process is going. I’d like some information on what the dev team will focus on beyond current bugs, systems and wishlist items, or is that it? Will we see v2 clouds for example or is that not going to be touched for 10 years because it’s not on the wishlist?

I am really enjoying MSFS. I think it is an amazing program.

I was livid with it back when it took me a month of frustrations getting it to initially load and another few days for an update. Nobody at MS/Asobo had an answer and kept shuffling me off to someone else or ignoring the problem. But that is well in the past. I finally figured it out myself.

Sure, there are some quirks that I sometimes mention here, hoping someone in the development group will repair; sunken boats in harbors, vehicles and buildings on taxiways, lightning in good weather, the bizarre ATC, etc.

Perhaps some day flight simulators and other computer programs will be indistinguishable from real life. Until then, I hope to enjoy playing make believe with great programs like MSFS even with a few glitches and inaccurate graphic representations.

Well, they’ve come a long way since the initial release. I’m not experiencing the CTDs anymore, with the FBW Airbus I don’t get killed anymore by the autopilot, and the performance is decent.

I do think the flight planning part needs a major overhaul, the inflight map needs a lot of work (more details and information please on airports etc… even the FSX map provided more info), ATC hasn’t developed at all since FSX, apart from the two voices, and I still haven’t figured out how to use the drone with only a joystick and a keyboard.

Oh… and really on my priority list as number one: I want to see what I did wrong when I landed and almost flew off the runway. Where’s the playback function? Seriously…

and yet that is not Coney Island, which I specifically referenced when I made that “clay” comment, is it? Perhaps you could have posted a picture of that instead.

Here is mine. I have good and bad days in MSFS but for the most part I am having some kind of fun. Is it for the hardcore simmer? Nope its not there yet.
One thing it did for me is it inspired me to push further into an Aviation career.

As one of the original Alpha testers, my opinion is that it’s come a long way and it gets better with every update. Those of us who were early testers could clearly see the potential of the program. We also knew it had a long way to go, and most were pretty surprised when the release was announced. I couldn’t help feeling like a dad who was getting ready to watch his young kid walk in to an ■■■ whipping and not being able to stop it.

It’s come quite a way since then, and I’m encouraged that it will get to where we want it to be. I feel bad for those of you who have suffered the low frame rates, CTD’s and failures to load. Hang in there. It’ll get handled in time.

I’d encourage those of you who come and here and bash the program and devs, to please make your dissatisfaction known by using the proper channels and report those issues with the tools provided, and have patience.

In a nutshell, this sim is far and away the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen them all. Is it perfect? Not yet, but it’s getting closer by the month.

Not 100% perfect but as an old crinkly that has enjoyed flight sims from FS5 onwards I am blown away with this sim.
My son is a professional when it comes to PCs and he got me one at a cost of £1600 and it runs this sim beautifully.
Just add airsickness as I always get it as a passenger [but never when flying the aircraft myself] and it is perfect!

why dont you learn how to create scenery, you could make a fantastic coney island, thousands of people make freeware scenery . This is going to go on and on and in 5 years time someone will try to sue microsoft/asobo because their wife is quite visibly naked sunbathing in the backyard pool.

I enjoy the sim but I loathe the performance and flight planning.

I run a 3080 RTX, 32 gigs of ram, i9-10900 and it runs like garbage most of the time. Especially in cockpits. I can play anything else fully ultra without FPS issues. Like an above poster pointed out it’s inconsistent. I can get “decent” frames one minute then it’ll drop to unacceptable the minute later. I can repeat the flight after exiting the program with decent frames.

I saw on another thread a claim that the devs have been forced to optimize the code for the Xbox release and that the PC version will benefit from that. I am skeptical, but if that happens, I would be grateful.

Also the flight planner is super limited. Let’s say I am flying a G91 from one airport to the next. I haven’t figured out a way to set a new airport/runway after that first flight. Having to exit back into the menu to set a new flight plan annoys me.

TL;DR - It’s a good simulation that is dogged by awful performance and subpar flight planning.

edit I have solved my FPS woes, please look below if you’re reading this chronologically.
