My fear with with “fixes” for 2024, is that with 2020, fixes are visible to the consumer, as they were downloaded and installed, with the consumer seeing this process take place, so they knew that a change had been made, which was hopefully described in some associated release notes.
With 2024, Asobo can steam “fixes” at any time, without the consumer knowing, which may either fix issues, or possibly make other things worse, and there is no obviously clear way to tell if a streaming update has been made or not.
This opens he floodgate of “Trial” “seat of the pants”, fixes, thrown out at any time, making the sim potentially very unstable.
SCRUM - AGILE at it worse , “Enabled” to be even worse by streaming !!
Stop being all mysterious and theoretical. I never said they should work over Christmas, I said it’s bad that they’re leaving the sim like this in an unplayable state over Christmas. It’s like talking to a conspiracy theorist the way you talk about these ‘suits’ of course there’s gonna be people above Asobo and Jorg, but did they tell Asobo to push the patch out before implementing a fix for the bug they knew about? No. You’re saying they deserve time off but do you not think we deserve better treatment from them than what we’ve had? No communication from them at all, lack of communication within the teams causing the head of Asobo to call a major issue that everyone has ‘hardware limitations’. I’ve just gone out and spent £2200 on a PC for MSFS2024 and the day I get home and set it up, they push a patch out that breaks the sim so I can’t use it. And now what? I have to wait 3 weeks without the game I played for because they’ve left it in this state. As the guy below your message has said, we already know they’ve fixed like half of these issues through looking at the dev forums, so they’re clearly still working, it’s a working week and a normal day, there’s no reason why they can’t push a hotfix out to fix the mess we’re in.
Yeah, I’m not doing any career work until the sim gets more stable, other than the PPL starter missions in the C172. I don’t see any sense in fighting the sim or seeing silliness ensue.
Yeah, no reason other than… that’s not how it works…
I realize a lot of people think the issue is a few missing semi-colons in the code they just have to find. The truth is, as we saw with the last release where they fixed a bunch of things and then made a major break with poor performance around airports, the fixes you are looking for won’t be coming any time soon. If they could release fixes, they would. I’d rather wait for them to do it right and fly in 2020 instead. I’m sorry you’re upset though.
I was looking forward to and hoping Patch 3 would bring improvements for all, including xbox, and bring our marketplace content back. it was given then yanked again. was hoping to enjoy the new game over Christmas break a bit but playing it in this lack of visual, functional & content available state doesn’t resonate. Back to 2020
I do acknowledge that a portion of the issues are related to somebody up the chain of command.
But I would give one example that also show the level of project management/development. Take the Tobii integration. Somebody thought it might be great Idea to label the axis with axis 1-8. Just let the user find out what each axis represents.
I am highly in doubt that this is a decision from somebody up the chain. You could only copy and paste the label from FS2020 for the different axis and you are good to go. It take almost the same time to use meaningful label as it takess to label them as Axis 1-8.
Despite the fact it does not work at all.
This is/was done on the developer / PM level. And this does only show the quality of work. Even if you are under pressure, you should at least deliver something that works.
Brings me back to my point of view, they win together and they lose together. MS as a company is to blame for it and not any individual. Anyhow you should always try to deliver your best even under pressure.
They already fixed the airport bug before patch3 so it’s not like they don’t have it done. Just an example, many other fixes are done just looking at the dev forum.
They can release a hotfix if they want but I guess it’s better for them to wait a few more weeks and launch a big patch than release one now with only some fixes
This is far from the first time they fixed something internally but it wasn’t fixed in time to make the patch which requires testing and must pass MS quality control, which takes days.
It is the nature of patching and releasing patches.
I mean, they could have held the first three patches back and made everyone wait for SU1 for any patching… when a big patch was good and ready.
No they didn’t. The SDK team reported that the Core team was aware of the bug and had a fix for it, but that the fix didn’t make it into HF3. They said (a couple days ago), that they didn’t know why it didn’t make the patch, nor did they know when the fix will be implemented. So we don’t know why the core team didn’t integrate the fix, but we do know they wouldn’t have kept it out if they didn’t feel they had to. It may be a rumor the SDK team heard was they had a fix, but somewhere along the way, the core team realized that the fix broke something else.
In any event, we don’t know why (or maybe we do from todays Q&A?), but we do know if they could have released it they would have. So, I don’t care why. we’ll get it as soon as they can get it to us.
Let’s all remember that this happened last year too, where MS & Asobo dropped us a sim update that broke major stuff through the holidays that weren’t fixed for weeks. It’s not uncommon. So when you look at defending them, just remember that they’ve done this before, without the pressure of it being ‘a new game release’. It’s just unfair and exhausting as a customer, because I feel like we’re all subject to their constant issues through updates. I’ve honestly never played a game where an update, has caused so many issues, yet in MSFS it seems to be a common thing. Patch 3 didn’t fix any outstanding issues like the VRAM bug, it just tweaked some performance issues. The sim was more stable, so why they felt the need to release it before they had a proper fix for this stutter issue is completely beyond me. I would’ve rather had the pre-patch 3 state than what we have now and I think that’s the same for everyone. There’s not been one day where I’ve used this sim and had a joyous experience, because it’s been constant running into issues, trying to find workarounds, restarting, refreshing, reinstalling. When are we gonna have the experience that we promised… next year? The year after?
There’s so much I want to say but I just can’t find the words. Reading this all makes me really sad. I just want the game that: a) doesn’t randomly switch its control bindings back to the original defaults (despite having updated defaults set MANY times); and, b) doesn’t randomly forget all bindings (complete loss of stored bindings had happened to me 5 times now). And on a really basic level this would be much better if I just knew that the devs are even aware of the issue. Honestly, I hear people complaining about all sorts of really niche things that don’t work for them. Some of us are having difficulty just getting the thing to work on a very basic level.
