Where are we at with dark cockpits?

Ooh, is this related to HDR? I’ve never used it, but I’ve heard people complain about it.

Sounds like Dynamic Contrast or whatever it is they have nowadays … Originally movie enhancements and pretty useless for simming. I know I woudn’t want them, even HDR looks overly artificial to me.

On my TV, this effect is noticeable with HDR enabled & disabled.

I have HDR enabled, and have experimented with Dark Detail & Local Dimming enabled / disabled - I find having both disabled works for me. As @DensestSnail693 says, many of the enhancements are designed for TV / Movie viewing and have no-to-little effect in MSFS.

OP should post at least a screenshot of his “problem”. This would allow us to tell if it’s really an issue or if the problem is just on his side.

Firstly, following the Gamma setting adjustment there is a noticeable improvement, in the X Cub at least, in the switch legend visibility and I can now read them simply by moving my head closer (Tobii eye tracker) rather than having to zoom. Thanks to Densest Snail for that pointer.

With regards to screen shots, I have captured dozens but they aren’t, I don’t think, really very useful in making a determination as to the core issue which is why I haven’t posted any of them. I have attached one from yesterday after I made the monitor changes:

Neat bit of parking by the bowser driver don’t you think?

Yeah, that cockpit looks . . . wait . . . why is there a fuel truck on top of the cargo containers?

That looks normal to me, and just representative of the poor eye adaptation algorithm. Not really anything you can do about it that I’m aware of.
