Wheres the hotfix

Yes I’ve got mine disabled as of ages ago as I couldn’t deal with all the ATC requests to change FL…

Sometimes I can do a 2hr+ flight and it’ll be ok. At least the first hour my gpu is usually pegged at 99%. But after a while it will fluctuate down to 60% then back to 80% and go back and forth, then a while later it’ll just get even worse.

I just don’t get how the sim can use the gpu flawlessly at first, then after a while it discards it like an ex wife

It’s wierd

absolutely, however, the lack of testing a release for obvious errors has been going on since day one.

Hm? Is that connected to having live traffic?

Because the CPU is probably getting progressively more threadlocked on a single CPU core due to some activity that’s getting slower over time, so it’s spending more time waiting for this CPU thread, and thus the GPU (and indeed other CPU core) utilisation is dropping back. When it happens, it’s worth throwing up the dev mode framerate monitor to see what it says. I’ll do the same if I can reproduce it!

Wasn’t just my requests to change FL, It was for all traffic in the environment so I disabled it and only had to feal with my own FL requests

To counter: the lack of appreciation on these forums for the challenge that Asobo have taken on to develop what is probably the most complicated, global-scale, consumer focused simulator has been going on since day one.

One group of people yelling for Asobo to stop releasing software before it’s ready, and another, equally loud group, yelling for Asobo to commit to arbitrary, fixed release dates. Honestly, it’s laughable.

I don’t have any problem with night lighting. But, I’m using 100 render scale
i7-4790K/16GB/RTX 2070 → LG 55UN7300 4K TV

Yeah, it is a bummer that AI planes lost their lighting, but, it’s not stopping me from flying.

Other than that, I don’t have any issues. But, I’m a GA flyer (and I don’t have a VR setup, yet), mostly the P149 and JF Warrior, though I did fly the Cirrus the other day without any issues either. All my sceneries seem ok so far. Planes are slowly getting fixed with the changes to the new UI.

I am pretty upset they broke the cockpit labeling system though. That was pretty unthinking of them to make such a major change to the programming system and not finish it (I hope that’s what the issue is).

I think that most users of the sim appreciate the hard work of the Asobo programmers. That is not the issue.
The issue is total lack of communicatiion and also the glaring problems after a software release.

See I don’t see how that can be the problem

Let’s say you’re at a busy airport with lots of stuff going on, my gpu will be pegged with a decent framerate

Then when 2hrs into the flight over the sea with faf all to render, the gpu dies off

My specs are good but not the best but I still get decent performance. I want a better gpu but I won’t pay the rip off prices

I9 10850k @ 5.2ghz all core
32gb 3600mhz vengance ram
1tb nvme wd black sn750 for o/s only
1tb nvme wd black sn750 dedicated fs drive
1tb nvme wd black sn750 for other games
Rm 850x psu
Rx 6700xt 12gb o/c to 2750mhz

Calling you out here. What are the glaring problems since the last release, and what is the total lack of communication?

I will let the community reply to that.

OK, after being rudely dismissed by the OP, I decided to go hunting. Seems to be some folks that still haven’t got the word about how to actually get the WU6.(Fixed) There are some people that are having the old decomp errors. (Fixed) The usual CTD threads seem to be getting far less pounding.(On Going Improvement)

As with every update so far we have the same complaints about severe performance and/or quality downgrades, being argued back and forth that the sim looks better/looks worse, crashes less/more, stutters less/more. And of course we have the anti XBox crowd that is convinced that a bunch of twelve year olds with cracked monitors are going to take over the sim.

I cannot find the threads that say that many thousands of users are now unable to load a flight. My research skills must be failing.

So let me ask this, and hope it is worth a reply;

  • What are we expecting will be included in the “HOT FIX”?

I ran a search for Jayne’s forum name, and the word “hotfix”.

I found a posting about a CTD on sim exit that causes the user to be stuck in a “Safe Mode” loop, though it seems to allow you to load normally, so just an extra click as far as it goes.

Not sure what else it may address.

Let me make it simple for you. The sim was working fine before su5, then after the sim was patched by Asobo it worked great after. Now after wu6 there are stutters and frame freezing and ctds. Nothing in the community folder, no changes to settings in sim.

The reality is that there’s probably a latent defect here that’s blocking a single threaded operation increasingly over time.

A game like this is a delicate balance between CPU (physics, cockpit, controls, AI, online - basically everything apart from drawing pretty pictures!) and GPU (drawing pretty pictures). As an example, imagine if every 10ms the game has to check what gravity currently is at a given altitude (9.8m^s-2 give or take a bit) and this call normally takes 10us, but it can’t start processing the control inputs, and drawing graphical updates until it has this value. If, over time, this call becomes very expensive and takes 1ms/call, what you’ll start to see is that other operations start to slow down - the GPU spends more time idle, because it’s not being fed fast enough by the CPU to keep up. Other parallel operations start to get blocked because a single thread is blocking waiting to find out what gravity is. As a result, the single thread processing gravity will probably be running one core flat out, but all of the other cores will start to fall back because, like with the GPU, they are being starved of work because the sim is sat blocked, doing a poor job of calculating gravity.

As a result, you’ll see overall GPU utilisation fall, and overall CPU utilisation do the same, even if a single core is probably running harder than usual doing the errant calculation. It’s counter-intuitive, but does make sense. Multi-threaded apps are hard - games, doubly so!

Sorry, not good enough, I’m afraid. I shall leave you to it and hope that you find your solutions elsewhere.

It might arrive Friday after the twitch stream like it did last time.

They said Fridays are reserved for hotfixes iirc.

Thank you for clarifying the nature of your issues.
And so when Asobo said they were releasing a HOTFIX, did they indicate a list of bugs that would be addressed other than the “Exit CTD”?
