Is it going to take another six months to fix? Finally maybe hopefully in a year after release I can finally enjoy an airplane that doesn’t have a black hole in the front?
Did they not claim that the default aircraft would all be updated to 2024. It’s ok to lie to the consumer and sell them this?
Perhaps something was missed in the QA process, or they did catch it and decided that it was “good enough” to release in this state. I don’t know if any of us on the outside will ever know.
I don’t think there is any possible excuses for this. I did not put much stock into the “2024 launch was a huge disaster” complaining because I believe there is always a birthing pain to endure with anything as long as there is good faith efforts all the way.
This does not pass that threshold. I cannot believe this was the best they could do.
I was pretty confident of the future of flight sim with Asobo. This carelessness has left me questioning if they really have what it takes.
I can’t say for sure, but this could be a side effect of a decision to create a broad selection of dozens of aircraft rather than a select few, leading to significant support overhead for them. (Looking at the number of bugs in each Bug Reporting Hub subcategory, you can see that Aircraft & Systems has the most.)
On the flip side, had they chosen to focus on a small, focused selection of aircraft, there may not be a Hercules. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wouldn’t have begrudged them doing a port over of the 2020 version and had it lacking new 2024 features with the plan to add them later.
But to deliver it in far less functional state than the 2020 version is inexcusable. It’s not just the exterior LODs, the interior and exterior lights do not make any light, the flight performance is even further from specifications than the 2020 version also.
Even small teams like Carenado managed porting over their stuff “as is like 2020”.
I knew there was trouble when it was announced that the updating process was like “30 min per airplane” or whatever that was at the big unveiling announcement in Vegas.
I bought the Deluxe version, as a way of recognition of the good job they did with MSFS2020. But what I got was quite disappointing, precisely because of that poor port in terms of aircraft.
Lesson learnt? For MSFS2028 (or whatever it comes) no pre-purchase and no premium edition.
Jorg didn’t promise the 2020 FF and other planes would be updated to 2024 status. He said they were going to look at it and might get to it eventually. They did promise that all 2020 aircraft would work in 2024 without having to edit them. That didn’t work out so well as we all know, for any 2020 aircraft. They’re still working at fixing that so it works. (In fact, the original contract from Microsoft demanded that FSX aircraft be usable in 2020. Of course, they also had a conflicting requirement that 2020 work on Xbox, which was impossible for FSX style gauges. Hence, we never got to use FSX aircraft in 2020 because system security was more important (Xbox group guys: “MS, what were you thinking with that requirement!?!” “Oh”)
My estimation is they’ll have production ready code by SU6, although that’s a little muddy, as they’re not just fixing bugs but adding planned new functionality by that point (which they’re actually doing now, the bug fixing is likely a monkey wrench in their plans overall).
In any event, I don’t blame them for not upgrading the FF etc. aircraft to 2024 status yet. I’d be happy that they work as 2020 compatible for the forseeable future, and if they get to it over the next couple of years, I’ll be happy.
But, to your point, at this point, it’s inexcusable that they still don’t have the interior / exterior model bugs worked out yet for 2020 aircraft. I would imagine that the H4 isn’t fixed yet because there isn’t any fixing to do for the aircraft. It’s more a system level problem in sorting out the interior/exterior model display issues that all aircraft, 2020 and 2024, are still experiencing.
They weren’t ported, and that’s the problem. They’re just the same old addons from FS20, and some were already broken. Of course they’ll be worse in a new sim they weren’t designed for.
I said this in another thread on a similar topic, but the Local Legends and Famous Flyers should be there next top priority once the sim itself is in a good place.
As I noted above, besides the obvious issues with most of them using the original broken Asobo GPS and other gauges, I think the problems with the FF and LL aircraft is more system level than actual problems with the aircraft; well, except for the AH ones, that’s just sloppy programming that should have been fixed ages ago which 2024 exposed to an even larger extent.
The specific issues each of these addons have ultimately doesn’t matter. They should be native FS24 aircraft if they’re included as base aircraft in the most expensive version of the sim.
Imagine paying $200+ for it and a good chunk of the aircraft don’t work. I’m dumbfounded by that.
The development of those planes took years. It will be the same converting them to 2024. Converting a plane to native 2024 is not in any way a trivial undertaking. I have zero expectation for them to be native 2024.
Yes, Asobo wayyyy overstepped with their dreams of the “perfect” development platform. It’s wayyyy too much work to convert a plane from 2020 to 2024.
This I 110% agree with. I’d be perfectly happy if they stay 2020 compatible, but fully expect them to get upgraded so they actually work, and agree it’s egregious so many still don’t work.
Except my post isn’t about LL/FF, I am talking about a default aircraft sold in the standard edition of the game. It should not take years to have a working default aircraft to the already low standards of a MSFS default aircraft. Plenty of devs have done the extensive leg work of proper conversions, yes it’s hundreds of hours not the 30 min predicted by Asobo. But if you are willing to give them years to fix default aircraft then this hobby is dead under their leadership.
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize the Hercules was part of the Standard Edition.
I think it was part of the 40th anniversary release, and I always considered those basically Famous Flyers. But you’re right they were classified as Standard.
Personally, I still think of those planes as freebies and technically the same class as the FF and LL’s. I’m not saying you’re wrong to think of them as “Standard Edition” aircraft, since, that’s what MS classified them as, but, my own expectations for those freebies are basically, I hope they work someday. Until then, I have other aircraft I fly and it’s water under the bridge for me.
But, at the same time… Yes, I totally agree that I’m really sad at how 2024 still has problems with 2020 compatible aircraft. All aircraft for that matter.
I could be wrong. But the default Cessna 408B Grand Caravan and the Cubcrafters X Cub are difference builds than the 2020 versions. I noticed they look visually updated and have working circuit breakers.
