Seriously, almost a month after release, and you still haven’t managed to copy the controller settings from MSFS2020 to MSFS2024? Was that too much of an ask? It’s not like we’re reinventing the wheel here, it’s the same controllers that worked perfectly fine in 2020!
I just don’t get it. How is this not a top priority? People have been shouting from the rooftops that things worked flawlessly in 2020 but are now mysteriously broken in 2024. Did controllers suddenly get more complicated, or did we just forget how they worked?
Let’s not forget that a significant portion of the player base isn’t exactly thrilled about remapping every single button and axis manually. And oh, the sheer joy of those who purchased shiny new gear like the TCA Thrustmaster (complete with that massive Xbox logo on it), fully expecting it to “just work.” Because, you know, if it was designed for MSFS2020, it should logically work like a dream in MSFS2024… but nope, welcome to the nightmare instead!
Microsoft, please—fix this. Some of us just want to fly, not spend hours deciphering button mapping as if it’s some ancient code.
The topic has be renemaned in : Why we ever have controller issues !?
Whats most schocking on the controller topic is, that no movements of any axis on any device are visible in the controller settings … on the dev stream it sounded as they cant imagine or even never heard of such issue … no matter which device, MFG Crosswind Rudders, TCA Sidestick, Throttle … no movements visible at all… that is something which belongs to “MINIMUM EQUIPTEMNT LIST” which has to work in a flight sim …how they testing such basics before a release … god preserve us if everthing will be done like this. I uploaded a video … and @Asobo belive me: Im moving the axis! https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/dHvnrqIFiUg
Jorg has clearly stated on more than one occasion that the controller settings for FS20 cannot be mapped over to FS24 due to the two systems being very different.
It’s really not that hard to recreate your binds in FS 24.
Oh, so Jorg said it’s “not possible” because the systems are so different? Got it. But here’s the thing, if they knew they were overhauling the system, shouldn’t they have at least provided tools to make the transition easier? Like, I don’t know, a utility to help us import, adapt, or convert those settings? Or even the ability to copy-paste configuration files so the community could share presets?
And saying, “It’s really not that hard to recreate your binds” is just dismissive. Maybe it’s easy for you, but not everyone is a tech-savvy wizard who enjoys spending hours fine-tuning controls for what should have been a seamless experience. This isn’t about difficulty, it’s about respecting players’ time and effort. We shouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel when they already had the blueprint.
At the very least, give us the tools to help each other. That’s not asking too much, it’s called basic user support.
It is soooooooooooo easy to setup controls in X-Plane. Why do the “creators” make this so hard in FS2024? Honestly this is the most convoluted way to setup controls that I have ever seen in a game…FWIW
I am in no way a tech savvy wizard, yet I found it easy to bind my preferred controls in FS24 on keyboard, Yoke and Controller. If I can do it anybody can. Again it is not difficult to do. Just takes a little patience. That’s it.
No, it’s not that difficult to do once you figure out how the UI works. But my problem is, I’ve had to do it THREE TIMES NOW because my custom profiles either disappeared or lost all the settings. And, no, I didn’t clear it (more on that later).
And in addition to my VelocityOne yoke, I have an Axair MIAP which has to mostly be programmed by manually selecting the keystrokes from the list because the “Search for input” doesn’t reliably recognize the multiple keystrokes that the MIAP issues for most buttons and knobs (see the command chart below). I takes me the better part of an hour to redo every time, and that’s not including the CTDs that frequently happen during the setup.
As for the aforementioned “Clear” option, I have found it much faster to create and save a custom profile and then immediately clear it. It’s faster to add all commands from scratch than to try to resolve all of the conflicts with the defaults.
Here are all the commands I have to enter manually for the MIAP. Once setup, it’s a neat little bit of kit, especially for Xbox since there’s not anything else like it that’s compatible.
Some valid points for sure but if anyone is referring to the specific predefined mappings for xyz joystick or abc yoke, those come from the manufacturer of said device, not ms/Asobo.
Keyboard/mouse is done because they are standardized
industry wide.
(Sits back waiting for 1st " but my mouse has 7 buttons" or my keboard has…insert preemptive heavy sigh here)
Many controllers were properly recognized and had workable default assignments in 2020. I know for certain the Turtle Beach VelocityOne yoke was.
In 2024, most of the defaults, where they existed, differed from what they were in 2020. The V1 comes with a set of decals for labeling the buttons on the throttle quadrant, so these all had to be remapped to correspond with how the buttons were labeled in 2020.
Furthermore, most of the axes (elevator, throttle, propeller, mixture) had to be inverted to make them work properly. That’s a very basic mistake. Nobody sets up the elevator axis to climb when pushed forward.
It’s apparent this release was very rushed. As a programmer myself, I sympathize with the devs. I know they didn’t want to release it in this state but weren’t given any option.
They need a live running copy of the game on their developer stream to be shown these things. Someone show them what they can’t imagine or never heard of and let them then comment.
Would be a lot harder for them to feign ignorance as they watch someone show them how so many aspects of the program either don’t work or don’t work as designed/advertised.
Can anyone shed a light on a problem i have. I use the tca airbus captain pack with my xbox. In MSFS 20 everything was great.
However in 24 i am unable to get the parking break axis to work properly also it seems my throttle only works at the very end of its range like from half way up. Then i seem to have all or nothing unless I move the throttles a minute amount.
Any help would really be helpful
Modifying such a basic feature to improve it, I understand the interest… But modifying it so that it works much worse than before is going to be much harder to justify
Hi… I am totally lost at this time: The Y axis of my Alpha Yoke Honeycomb does not accept any input… but it is configuered correctly… I ve been through YT and tried various bindings… it is so frustrating! Can anyone link me a topic for help here? Or even help me right here???
Thx
I’m new to MSFS (4 months) and have enjoyed significant progress with MSFS2020 using “Game Pass” on our new Samsung smart TV. While FS2024 is available and I’ve tried to access it, my Xbox wireless controller does not function as it did on FS2020. My greatest hangup so far is activating cursor mode (simple right?). I’m researching solutions on Youtube but wanted to throw it out to the community for suggestions. It shouldn’t be this difficult should it?
I don’t want to sound condescending, but the technical differences between 2020 controls and 2024 controls are very significant.
2024 is plane specific, 2020 was not. There is no automatic route from one to the other.
The 2024 profiles have been made too complex, unfortunately. That kind of masks the benefit of per-plane, which tends to be mission critical. In other words, with all the modern hardware available you can’t fly an Airbus like a Cessna or like an A400 or like a Spitfire and all other plane combinations.
I have a yoke for the Cessna, the Thrustmaster flight stick, throttle, flaps and speed brake for the A320 and a WinWing FCU for the A320. For the Spitfire I’m 3D printing Authentic parts. I have prototyped a 3D EFIS, but if WinWing can supply them in January I’ll buy one. They are all radically different, spaced over 60 years or more.
Maybe, I would not mind if the controllers would work flawlessly,
and if I would know what the menues mean, what they do, and so on.
In some cases the menu names seem to be absurd automatic translations from french ?
For me it has the smell of dull, unmotivated quick and dirty brainless coding.
Without any engagement !
I enjoy the scenery of that sim pretty much, I still like it.
But I don’t like to fly with that sim or tinker about binding issues for days.
It’s a nuisance . The menu coding is of utmost ignorance.
Ergonomics in the menu guidance ??? A foreign word for the coders ?
Patch 3 probably fixes some (for me ) very annoying features.
Have you checked that nothing else is bound to the pitch axis, as a “phantom” mapping could quite easily prevent the pitch axis on your Alpha yoke from working?
