Why do people want a study level airliner?

I love study level or close to study level planes because I like to know how machines work, what options they have, how to handle them etc.
In general aviation aircraft I am not too much intested in study level, because they are relativly simple birds. But airliners are something else. I like to see how they work, what is needed to program and setup to fly, how to start engines, program FMC etc…

Default aircraft are good and I don’t expect them to be study level, because there are people for who this sim is 1st time experience and they wouldn’t figure it out, like FS2004 was my 1st sim. Latter FSX and when I take 1st flight in PDMG’s 737, after default 737 I couldn’t even start engines or enter route. But now, I can not imagine flying on commercial airliner without doing it similar to real pilots.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the FBW mod myself at first, but I gotta say, I’m loving it now. It flies great and I’m also really glad that the FPS issue was fixed because it runs really smooth on my PC now just like the default A320.

Do I actually use all the buttons and switches in the cockpit? No. However, in terms of doing what it’s supposed to (AP) and the physics being correct, it’s a joy to fly. Definitely the most realistic aircraft I’ve flown in all my years of flight sim.

I agree, study-level jets are essential for a lot of people in the community. I also understand Asobo’s rationale to let third party developers have those projects too. There has never been a sim that I know of, FS, P3D, X-plane, etc, that gave us good, accurate and study-level jets in default aircraft. They just tide us over until the third parties come along.

However, I also am miffed to this day that they sold us jets that didn’t work to begin with. They could have done better on that front.

In time, we’ll see study level everything, from props to helicopters, so have hope that we’ll start to see some good planes show up over the next weeks and months. The first year on a platform is always hard,.

Asobo made nice aircraft to begin with.
Maybe it is better that Asobo fix all bugs and problems, to make good platform and foundation for 3rd party addons and not waste time on aircraft.
That means Asobo should make platform without bugs, good world enviroment, alow a lot of freedom for 3rd party addons so they be good as can be.

I would like to be able to enjoy study level aircraft, but with my 30+ years of simming I have never had enough time to learn them good enough for that (thank God, I have so many other commitments and interest in life, and therefore I am still on this level). A2A, QW, Carenado/Alabeo (in it’s best) have produced aircraft difficult enough for me to enjoy simming.

True point. It was a gamble that IMHO, Asobo had to take. I feel they should have left out the airliners all together however doing that, you run the risk of turning off the big-iron, study-level crowd who would just stick with their P3Ds and X-Plane systems until MSFS matured. Better to whet the appetite now, leave room for some development of default jets, like FBW, and hope that gets people hooked on the platform.

On the other hand, some folks are still miffed about not having good airliners today and may abandon or put the platform on hold for now. I’m personally glad I still have P3D and X-Plane installed so I have the best of all three worlds.

I miss the 777 in P3D and the Zibo in X-plane. I tried so hard to go back and forth between sims, but MSFS is just “good enough” to keep my appetite rolling. The lighting and weather are what keeps me from really enjoying the other sims anymore. My hat goes off to you guys who can settle into whatever sims you have. For me, this is sim-limbo still lol.

I can agree with you. Some people will still fly on FSX P3D or XP just because they have study level aircraft.
I deleted FSX few days ago, I leave it installed to fly sometimes with PMDG 737, 747 or 777. But… I tried last week and when I saw graphics, I couldn’t. Simply world scenery in FSX is bad after FS2020. I had installed ORBX and before FS2020 it was good but now I can’t believe how bad it is.
I will wait for aircraft being released for FS2020, until than, I fly FBW A320, PMP A330 and default general aviation crafts. If FBW release A319 and A321 I won’t buy payware versions.

Aerosoft CRJ 700 will be released on Tuesday March 16,2021. YESSSSS.
First Study level in MSFS2020. If you have a Aerosoft account you can download the pre manual NOW.

Same reason you don’t want one .. personal choice and preference.

The words ‘Aerosoft’ , ‘study’ and ‘level’ in the same sentence is an interesting combination. However seeing as the term study level is about as subjective as it gets, and banded around depending on personal viewpoint or as part of a sales pitch, to someone out there, it probably will be.

Given that if someone from Asobo even ■■■■■ in a lift this place goes into meltdown , Aerosoft may end up taking the baton there. March the 16th will be interesting given the grand assumptions being made. Popcorn at the ready, wallet nowhere in sight.

I’ll admit now that i’m in the minority. Eventually I’d like to see a study level, or at least more complex helicopter, that’s of course after helicopters actually arrive in the Sim. As a career helicopter pilot I’ve spent my life waiting for bits to fail or fall off, caution and warning captions to light up, high pitched whining or grinding sounds to suddenly add to the tension. One eye always on the fuel contents.
Generators failing, governors and FADECs freezing, constantly looking ahead for the next possible landing site.
Assessing wether the current state of the aircraft allows me to continue as planned, land as soon as practicable, possible, or immediately!
In the mean time I’ll carry on with the ever reliable Cessna or TBM, content that none of the systems will fail at any time between take off and landing unless I tell them to (that’s cheating).

Well, Aerosoft doesn’t make ‘‘hard core’’ study level, like PDMG does, but Aerosoft’s Airubus and CRJ in FSX is good. No 100% functions, but much better than some other payware aircraft. Those other didn’t have their FMC, instead they used built in GPS, no VNAV.

I’m not looking for study level myself. I look for something in between. If there’s such, I’ll buy it. I would like something like CLS 747-200. These weren’t that bad. Something that has a little bit more than default aircraft but still is approachable. That being said, I will still buy PMDG product when it comes out, because I wanna learn. I just want something easy to fly sometimes and I’d love to have MD-11 or 747-200

So true, but it really takes a compelling desire to fire up P3D or X-Plane. I’ve got a good bit of add-on investments in X-Plane but never really went full-bore in P3D, mostly because between those two platforms, I felt X-Plane was better for my realism overall. I fondly recall deleting FSX once I got P3D rolling and recall starting from scratch with version 5.0 and re-adding all my add-ons. What a PITA that was.

If I’m going to either platform its mostly to fly the FS Labs A3xx series, Quality Wings 787, PMDG 748 freighter, or, on X-Plane, the Hot Start TBM or Thranda PC-6. Oddly, there is plenty of deep GA aircraft in X-Plane but the airliners are pretty dismal as well, bar perhaps the FF A320 or Toliss A319/321.

I just read that last night and cannot wait. Its a great aircraft with a mix of old and new to keep you interested.

I’m certainly interested in what Aerosoft have to offer but agree, I’ll see how it goes. They are not high on my list of the bandied about study level term but their depth should be at least on par with what FBW are doing with the A32NX, albeit they are asking for money for their model so it had better be at least that good. The A32NX is the yardstick in airliner aircraft available in the sim at the moment.

That said, As a bit of a throwback, I recall after the old PSS Airbus series, I found the Aerosoft Airbus series to be one of the best out there for some time. I can’t recall who did it well after them so we will see. On the previous MSFS plaftorms, I think I went from them straight to Flight Sim Labs whom I watched develop their platform for well over a year before release.

Because it’s a flight sim. If they had no bugs, they’d be study level.

I’m not into tubeliners myself (I prefer more simple stick & rudder, low & slow and bush flying type stuff), but can certainly understand someone wanting to model every system & detail. I’m into that for sure w/ small GA aircraft. However, I’ve always wondered exactly how one person can effectively fly a highly complex aircraft that requires a pilot and copilot (and maybe even an engineer also if it’s a bit older). I know they have AP, but still are they really that fully automated now? If so it seems more like program the thing at the beginning, then let it go and just watch. Anyway, I can understand the frustration of the tubeliner folks with the default high & fast stuff, but I figure once they get the flight dynamics good and reasonably accurate for the GA stuff then 3rd party developers can/will provide much more accurate and detailed tubeliners also.

I also don’t understand how you can have a study level airliner without having access to all the switches, hardware etc.
