Why no honest post from the dev team to the server situation and compensation for all players?

Why can’t the FS 2024 team even manage to write an official post and apologise for this catastrophic release of the game? The release is even worse than FS 2020.

The capacities provided are a bad joke. They knew exactly how many wanted to download the game on day one. They knew exactly what was going on at the release of FS 2020 and that there would be no fewer players at FS 2024 was more than to be expected.

I hope MS and Asobo at least think about providing compensation in the form of a really good DLC package for all day one buyers. Many have bought packages for over $100 and many can’t even start the game and play a tutorial. This is just embarrassing for a publisher like Microsoft!

I agree with the majority and sentiment of your post, however a consideration of providing compensation is very premature given its not even been 24 hours yet.
I am as disappointed as everyone else, but to be fair we have received many sim upgrades for 2020 and I suspect we will see a similar trend with 2024.

Lets just hope this is not an on going issue that will plague us for months and will be resolved as more and more people actually get the sim installed and running.

I don’t expect compensation, you are just trying to milk free items.
I DO expect them to have had a better idea of the network traffic, this isn’t a new thing when a large new game releases, happens all the time!
I DO expect some sort of communication about it.

This is not about trying to milk items for nothing.

It’s about compensation. All players have paid money for the game. Then the least MS can do is to provide sufficient server capacity for the release. Especially if they have decided against a preload.
If they had done that, then they would have been able to estimate how many would try to log in on day one.

It was announced in the press in advance that the game had been made slimmer with 50GB so that the download is faster and the scenario of FS 2020 release is not repeated.

They also decided to stream high levels of detail. So they also knew that they would generate a lot of data traffic.

They knew the login figures for day one of FS 2020 at the time.

So you can’t stand up now and say. We couldn’t expect that now. Nobody expected that a release would not be stumble-free. For many, however, nothing works at all. Many can’t even download the game. We’re not even talking about launching. Other games at least offer a small offline version where you could have at least played a few tutorials. But nothing works here!

Edit: I’m happy that Asobo spoke up with a video and multiple announcements. Thank you to the team for doing the right thing! Original message still sadly often applies in today’s world:

I don’t think compensation is in order, but this poor communication is unfortunately just how Microsoft and Asobo handle things. Their communication over the 4 years MSFS was out was just as bad. When things go south, their usual response is to say nothing, or little of practical use. It’s not just them, either, it’s the anti-consumer trend corporations all practice these days. I work for a small software company that was bought by a large corporation, and I kid you not that was what they trained us to do. They flat out teach people these days that the best thing to do is not react to your customers in situations like this and do a post-mortem after (and often never share that with the customers, either.)

This is exactly what MS is going to do. They know that everyone is up in arms now, but once this is ironed out and everyone is in and they have their planes and they’re flying around, the discussions will change to weather, configurations, performance, and everything else we all discussed in the last three years of flying around in MSFS2020.

All they have to do is wait it out.

At least there’s a post at the top of the forum now

Some MMOs have several days of this on launch, it was to be expected (By us players clearly not MS).
Nobody is getting compensation.

While I can understand (and share to some degree) the frustration … it would have been pure magic if this “server overload” would not have happened. Personally this little goose decided to not even try to install the MSFS2024 … for some days.

I seriously would love MSFS + Asobo doing an in depth “post-mortem” devops stream.

There is so much that could be learned from this “crash and burn” event … and I mean for everybody who is dealing with large scale server service deployments. The abnormal load on the servers must be “epic” right now.

I do feel with the devops crew. The pressure must be pretty intense.

If it hasn’t loaded by tomorrow morning I’ll be hugely disappointed. Until then?

Meh…

When I make a mistake at work I’am hugely blamed.
There’s no reason that it must be different there, a compensation MUST be envisaged

I find it funny that they refer to their Twitter support account that last posted anything in 2021. :joy:

Anyone who can say anything is under NDA. Transparent, quick, frank communication is possible in the gaming industry (BATC team was been wonderful with this) but it’s not Asobo’s brand.

According to the XBox App I played FS2020 for 2,067 hours in the past 4 years. I expect to put at least as many hours into FS2024.

So if I don’t get to play FS2024 for about 4 hours today, that works out to a percentage of 0.19 of the total usage time mentioned above.

Now … I’ve payed $140 for the Premium Deluxe version, so if I don’t get to play for 4 hours today (on the outside, because I gotta work tomorrow), I’m “losing” about 26 Cents of my money (but not really …). So yeah … where is my compensation?! Are there any DLC in the quarter range?

MSFS is a sim (or game). The product has just been released today and there are clearly issues for us being able to use the software, I.e. get it installed and running.

While it is absolutely frustrating and disappointing I am really struggling to understand on what grounds exactly people feel “compensation” is due to them. At this point we are experiencing a delay in being able to use the software. What has this actually cost you, has it left you hundreds/thousands of £/$ out of pocket?

Where have you read Asobo/MS inferring that the issues cannot resolved, and/or they have no intention of trying to do so? Until they do such a thing (not going to happen) and/or a resolution is not reached in a reasonable time frame AND a refund is not offered/granted then there is little call for compensation.
Quite frankly a cry for “compensation” is little more than contemporary entitlement.

Perhaps we might receive a good will gesture if MS/Asobo are unable to overcome these problems quickly and see it as a decent thing to do for the community. I would only anticipate this would be DLC of a nominal value. Methinks a bit of perspectives is needed here. :+1:

What about going to restaurant, ordering and paying for your food only to see the waiter coming at you 30min later to tell you that maybe you will eventually get your food soon or later ?

This seems dumb, but it is EXACTLY what is happening now.

I don’t know what kind of jobs ya all doing (low responsability ?), but in my perspective, when I do some mistake, I have to pay for it or I can eventually get fired for this mistake. My job is to insure that the final customer will be satisfyed at all costs.
