Will an upgrade from 32GB to 64GB give me more fps?

Hi,

has anyone noted a huge increase in performance when upgrading from 32GB Ram to 64GB?

Currently Im running on a 8700K with a RTX 2070. So Im GPU limited. But Im planning to buy the new RTX 3080 or 3090 when it is released.

Thanks!

Andi

I am running:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
Nvidia RTX 2080 Super
32 GB DDR 4 Ram,

And the game is only using 10GB at MOST for me so I would guess no.

32GB is plenty enough so far but it doesn’t hurt to have 64GB for when new content arrives, especially the 3rd party stuff.

I’m on 32Gb, normally sits around 18Gb when settled, although does kick up to about 22-23Gb when loading up

I’ve had it up to 25gb flying over big cities. Go try New York, then check your ram usage.

I have read almost all the post on this forum (as at 28 Aug). Most have reported a RAM usage not exceeding about 23GB - however see other posts below.
I suggest that people use an app like MSI afterburner to show their PC data (including temps) for the first few weeks of use. You can see how your system performs

I wouldn’t personally spend the money on more ram if you’ve already got 32GB. Check task manager while you’re playing. I bet you’ve still got a decent chunk of free memory. Unless you’ve got other memory intensive things running while you play.

Please join the queue, behind me.

I have a the same GPU same 32GB of memory but I am running a Intel i9-9900.
The problem is the GPU or not having DX12. I have played around with frame limit and adjusting the scenery from low to high to ultra. Only had small progress it is very hard to find the sweet spot. I have settled on a medium to hight setting for my graphics setting and set my frame rate locked at 45. This setting helps my GPU not running 100% it is now at 90% and my temp is no more over 80 degrees. But now being over large cities with the A320 it stutters like crazy.

So I am with you we need a RTX 3080 or 3090 but I believe that DX 12 would have the same effect. I have a second system running a Intel 5820 CPU and a Nvidia 970 with 16GB of memory I was unable to run P3Dv4.5 on this system at run at 8-10 frames per second so I stopped using it. When P3Dv5 come out I upgraded because of DX12 and it now runs at 40fps without any problems. So I am urging Microsoft to implement DX12 because it is their own product and should have been implemented from the start.

I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB and didnt notice a difference, so I wouln’t bother with 64gb if I were you  I’m definitely GPU limited due to my 1080ti though…

You need a better CPU, virtual memory on an SSD is fine.

I went from 16 to 32. No FPS increase - less stutters. You wont get an FPS boost from going over 32.

… unless you are using the LOD config file hack at 4 or above in which case you may need 64GB

Could you elaborate, I can then edit to ‘Only one user has reported…’ :slightly_smiling_face:

My personal answer: NO - 64GB is not required right now.

I’m playing MSFS2020 at 4K, ultra setting. Mostly I’m at 24GB memory usage.
In very rare cases like handcrafted airports with a lot of other airplanes I saw 33GB of memory usage.

I’m running it on a i9 9900k, 64GB memory 3200 MHz CL14, 2080Ti and a 970 Evo Plus NVME. There is no FPS difference between 64GB and 32GB.

But in the future we may get some updates and even more detailed airports. So take 64GB if you have the money…

VETO
I had 33GB memory usage incl. Windows only.

See here - a proof with my screenshot

Edit done, thanks

RAM won’t do anything unless it’s your bottleneck… and 32GB is plenty for this game.

But virtual memory is fine, as long as it is on SSD
